What Plastic Surgery Stigma?

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Over the years, millions of people have turned to plastic surgery to look and feel better, and have spent billions of dollars in the process. Once upon a time, these people would have stayed hidden from the public to hide their work. Today, however, more people are saying goodbye to the stigma formerly attached to plastic surgery and embracing their results.

“Years ago, people thought others only turned to plastic surgery to try to hold on to their youth,” says Bloomfield Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Ali. “Results of early nose jobs and other procedures were often a bit crude and cookie cutter, so it was obvious when someone had a procedure. Today, however, techniques have advanced so much that patients often leave others wondering if they’ve had work done.”

Today, we’re seeing more celebrities embracing the work they’ve had done, and even talking about it openly because they are proud of their results. Gone are the days of using fake names and going on extended vacations to hide their work. And every day people are following the lead, as they see the beautiful and natural results that can now be achieved.

“I often have patients coming to me for a facelift, tummy tuck, or a host of other procedures who aren’t trying to regain their youth, but simply trying to regain their vigor and self-confidence,” says Dr. Ali. “Good plastic surgery can be age appropriate and natural looking. The goal should always be to help our patients look and feel as great on the outside as they do on the inside. Today, we’re seeing patients who are so happy with their results, they can’t wait to shout them from the rooftops.”

We still see news of plastic surgery dominating tabloids. People love to guess “did they or didn’t they?” While there may still be people who think plastic surgery is bad, or fake, the negative opinions are starting to fall away to more positive, and empowered, ideas of what plastic surgery can do. And much of that has to do with how far plastic surgery has come over the years.

“In the early days of surgery, it’s true that many women turned to a surgeon to try to maintain their grasp on their youth,” says Dr. Ali. “This was especially true in the case of Hollywood starlets, who needed to stay youthful looking to continue their careers. Today, however, we’re seeing more women aging gracefully, and as strange as it may sound, plastic surgery can often help women do just that.”

Reasons for undergoing plastic surgery are deeply personal, and the experience can be very positive. When people feel good about the way they look, that confidence carries over into every aspect of their lives. They can gain back a renewed sense of self, and be more willing to tackle new goals and live life to the fullest.

And it seems that younger generations are more accepting of plastic surgery procedures. These younger generations feel it’s okay to be successful and look and feel your best, and know that plastic surgery procedures are often a great solution to that. With the popularity of Botox and fillers, people are getting introduced to the plastic surgery world at younger ages, and as they age, they are more willing to embrace more invasive procedures, if they feel they could benefit.

“I love what I do because I get to see how patients change from before their procedure to after,” says Dr. Ali. “The confidence I see in a woman who once again feels ready to tackle the world is a beautiful thing. Plastic surgery not only helps people look better, it helps them feel better, too. And I don’t think that is a bad thing at all.”

How To Get Rid of Your Double Chin

Bloomfield Hills, MI – When you look in the mirror, are you embarrassed by the sagging, wrinkled appearance of your neck? Even without other changes to our bodies, our necks can make us look older or even heavier than we actually are. But a neck contouring procedure can correct that, shaving years and even pounds off of your look.

“A double chin is the result of excess fat and loose skin that builds up on the neck,” says Dr. Ali, a Michigan plastic surgeon. “It can happen as we age, or after we gain and lose weight, or due to stress. A neck lift and contouring is a great way to remove the fullness associated with a double chin, especially in patients who aren’t ready for a full facelift yet.”

When your neck simply doesn’t match the rest of your appearance, a neck lift is a great solution. During the procedure, your surgeon will remove excess skin, alter and tighten the neck muscles, remove excess fat, and for some patients use Botox or other injections to address additional issues.

If your problem is that your neck looks more like a turkey’s waddle, your surgeon will cut under your chin or behind your ears to access the platysma muscle. Some of the muscle may be removed to achieve the ideal look. Botox injections can be used in conjunction with the procedure to relax the parts of the muscle that create a banded or full look in your neck.

If you also have liposuction performed, your surgeon will make a small incision just below your chin, and use the cannula to remove excess fat.

Excess skin can be trimmed and lifted into a more ideal place, and then secured with either tissue glue or stitches.

Some patients may only require one of the above mentioned procedures to achieve their desired look, while others may require multiple. It’s important to discuss your aesthetic goals with your plastic surgeon before your procedure so he can provide you with the look you desire.

Younger patients, those in their 20s to 50s, may only need liposuction to get their desired look/ If you have good skin elasticity, your skin will contract smoothly, providing a beautiful result following the liposuction.

If you have a more extensive neck lift surgery, you’ll need about two weeks to fully recover, however an exact recovery time depends on the individual. Your neck will feel tight and there will be some bruising and swelling. This is all normal and the after-effects of surgery will subside within a few weeks.

It is important to follow all of your surgeon’s after-care instructions to ensure the best result.

Neck lift surgery can reduce sagging skin, remove excess skin, smooth out wrinkles and creases, and improve the appearance of neck bands. Best of all, the results will look natural and will age well with the patient.

If you’re tired of looking older than you are because of your double chin, schedule a consultation with Dr. Ali today.

Make 2016 Your Most Confident Yet

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Are you sick of looking in the mirror and not loving the reflection that
stares back? Do you wish you could shave a few years off your tired face, or lose the extra weight that just doesn’t seem to go away? Make one of your New Year’s resolutions to love your reflection again with a visit to your Michigan cosmetic surgeon.

“One of the things I love most about my job is the ability to transform my patient’s lives,” says Dr. Ali. “Through both surgical procedures and minimally invasive procedures like Botox, I can help people gain back confidence they may have lost. There is no better time than the New Year to create a new outlook on life. Plastic surgery may be your answer.”

If you’ve tried diet and exercise and just can’t seem to lose those few extra pounds, a liposuction procedure may be able to help. Liposuction is one of the procedures Dr. Ali performs most often.

As we age, fatty deposits begin to appear in the lower abdomen, hips and outer thighs. We’ve all heard the terms muffin top and saddle bags, and many times, these areas just don’t respond to even the healthiest diet and exercise routines. But liposuction can help.

Do you feel young, but your face tells a different story? The New Year may be the ideal time to
undergo a mini-facelift or blepharoplasty procedure.

“Many patients come to me because they don’t like the reflection they see starting back in the
mirror,” says Dr. Ali. “They still feel young and energetic, but their face tells a different story. As we age, our eyes and jowls can become droopy, aging us in the process.”

A successful blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can treat the following:

  • Excess fatty deposits that make the eyelids appear puffy
  • Undereye bags
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Excess wrinkles and fine lines
  • Loose, sagging skin

Some patients may opt for a more complete rejuvenation of the face, choosing a facelift
procedure. If you have sagging in the middle of your face, deep creases along your nose, fat
deposits that have fallen or disappeared, loss of skin tone, or loose skin and extra fatty deposits, a facelift might be ideal for you.

“Our face is what we use to greet the world,” says Dr. Ali. “When we begin to use the youthful look that gave us our beautiful facial contours, we can begin to feel self-conscious. The majority of facelifts I perform are on patients between the ages of 40 and 60, and they have beautiful results.”

Dr. Ali also offers what is known as a “liquid facelift.” As we age, our face can begin to lose its fullness. This loss of fat and skin laxity results in cheek folds and jowls. Facial fillers can be used to correct this problem, giving patients a fuller, more youthful-looking face.

A liquid facelift is an ideal procedure for patients who want to reduce the appearance of jowls and cheek folds, but will not correct drooping eyelids or very heavy jowls.

Botox and other injectables are a great way to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without undergoing a major surgery. Once injected into the muscle, these injectables can temporarily improve the look of crow’s feet, frown lines, and other wrinkles in the face.

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years can result in fine lines and crow’s feet around the eyes and between the brows. Botox targets these muscles to reduce their activity, thereby smoothing out the skin. You’ll see the results in 24-48 hours and the results will last several months.

Dr. Ali and his trained staff provide a host of treatments in their Bloomfield Hills office. From minimally invasive treatments such as microdermabrasion, skin peels and Rejuvapen, to surgical procedures such as facelifts, breast augmentation and tummy tucks, there is a procedure for everyone.

What are you waiting for? Make 2016 your most confident year yet and schedule a consultation
with Dr. Ali today.

Look Younger with a Non-Surgical Facelift

Bloomfield Hills, MI – As you’ve aged, you’ve probably noticed that your face has lost some of its fullness and volume. As that happens, you also lose skin laxity, resulting in the appearance of folds and jowls in your skin.

As the fat in our faces atrophies over the years, it results in wrinkles and folds that can make us look much older than we actually are. But the good news is, you don’t have to undergo an extensive plastic surgery procedure to gain back your youthful look. You can achieve a full, younger looking face with what is known as a liquid facelift.

Dr. Ali, a Michigan plastic surgeon, uses FDA approved facial fillers to correct the areas of the face affected by natural aging. This non-surgical facelift is a great alternative to a traditional facelift, but perhaps the best part is there is little to no recovery time.

Facial fillers work to lift, smooth, re-contour and add fullness back to the face. It is important to note that a liquid facelift, while effective, cannot correct major signs of aging, such as sagging eyelids and heavy jowls. A liquid facelift is appropriate for those with moderate signs of aging.

Aging naturally results in the loss of collagen and elastin, which creates sagging features. Injecting fillers, such as Juvederm, Radiesse or Restylane, can lift and contour the features to reduce wrinkles and folds, restore a face to a more youthful fullness, and provide a more rested look.

Depending on your needs, your surgeon may use fillers to lift the entire face, or to lift and contour specific features. Your surgeon can mask bags under your eyes or can open up your eyes by lifting your eyelids. Flattened cheeks can be filled out, and even bumps on your nose can be hidden.

Dr. Ali will use the type of facial filler that can best meet your goals.

  • Collagen is a natural protein that supports the skin, and injectable collagen is available in different formulas. Results from these can last for two to four months.
  • Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body and is an ideal injectable for filling facial creases, and some surface wrinkles. Juvederm and Restylane are this form of injectable, which can last six months or longer.
  • Hydroxylapatite is naturally found in bones and is the heaviest of the facial fillers. It is best for deeper creases and frown lines, and can be used to enhance the cheeks to provide a fuller looking result.
  • Human fat can also be harvested from your body and re-injected. Because it uses liposuction to extract the fat, it is a more extensive procedure than other filler options.
  • PMMA are a mix of microspheres suspended in purified collagen, and is recommended to improve the look of smile lines.
  • Sculptra is a synthetic biocompatible material that can improve skin thickness and reduce the appearance of folds. Results from using Sculptra can last up to two years.

Tenderness and redness may be present at the injection sites following a liquid facelift. Very rarely, a patient may experience negative side effects, such as an allergic reaction or infection.

Results are immediate, however, they are not permanent. To maintain the new appearance, patients will need to have touch-ups with Dr. Ali periodically.

If you’re ready to once again face the world with a more youthful look, schedule a consultation with Dr. Ali today to see what a liquid facelift can do for you.

What Can Micro Needling do for You?

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Micro needling is a new facial therapy that is gaining traction with many in the cosmetic world due to its ability to minimize wrinkles and improve the look of the skin. But what exactly is it and how does it work?

Micro-needling is a minimally invasive skin procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. A skilled aesthetician uses the device to puncture the skin, creating what is known as a controlled skin injury. It may sound crazy, but this procedure actually works to improve the texture and firmness of a patient’s skin. That’s because each puncture by the needle sparks the body to create collagen and elastin to fill in the puncture wound. The result for you is a reduction in scars, acne pores and even stretch marks.

The devices can be rollers with wheels of needles attached, or pens that contain clusters of needles. Studies have proven that micro needling, when done by a licensed and trained doctor or aesthetician, is very effective in treating acne scars.

Micro needling is also effective in smoothing and minimizing small wrinkles, such as crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also effectively minimize wrinkles around the upper lip.

Dr. Ali, a Michigan plastic surgeon, offers the service through his highly trained aesthetician. While there are at-home micro needling devices on the market, for as little as $25, Dr. Ali warns against trying the procedure at home. You run the risk of infection and scarring due to using needles that are too long, dull, or skewed, or performing it on a face that isn’t completely clean.

When done in an office setting, as is done in Dr. Ali’s office, a topical anesthetic is applied to ensure the comfort of the patient. The number of sessions a patient may need will depend on his or her skin condition. For mild to moderate scarring and wrinkling, typically three or four treatments will be needed. For more severe cases, five or more may be needed to ensure the proper results. Patients should allow four to six weeks in between treatment to allow for the skin to heal properly.

There may be slight bleeding during the procedure. Afterwards, the face may be slightly red and puffy. You may feel as if you have a mild sunburn for 24-48 hours, and can experience minimal bleeding or bruising. Within just a couple of days, the skin will be ready for your usual beauty routine. In about a week, your skin will be noticeably smoother. Once your entire round of treatments is complete, the fine lines or acne scars you’ve been trying to hide will have vanished and you’ll have new, radiant skin.

Micro needling is a safe alternative to more invasive procedures to remove the appearance of scarring and fine lines. It works to improve the texture of your skin by stimulating collagen production and tissue regeneration to offer you younger, healthier looking skin. If you’re interested in what micro needling can do for you, call Dr. Ali’s office today at (855) 335-7200.

Liquid Facelifts

Traditional facelifts are surgical procedures performed by a Board Certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Ali. He has extensive experience I n the field, and has been the surgeon of choice for other doctors and their patients. The results are typically permanent, although over the course of years, more procedures could be required.

Liquid facelifts, on the other hand, involve non-surgical procedures utilizing various fillers or other methods to sculpt the face and refine pores and skin tone. Although not as long-lasting as a surgical facelift, liquid facelifts can achieve excellent results for many. As the aging process continues, we lose fat, collage, elastin and muscle tone in our faces. This loss of volume results in the sagging, drooping appearance associated with age, and can be accelerated by sun exposure, heredity or lifestyle.

Dr. Ali employs a variety of FDA approved injectable products that help to replace lost volume and “fill in” wrinkles and deep creases and folds in the face. Although very effective at enhancing volume, injectables will not correct sagging jowls or drooping eyelids; surgical procedures are required to change these conditions. However, for a boost of youthfulness with no surgery and minimal recovery and downtime, the latest liquid facelift procedures can create outstanding results.

Results from liquid facelifts are often immediate, and may last between six months and one year, depending on the type of filler used and the procedure performed. Touch-ups will be needed over time to maintain the refreshed appearance, and to accommodate additional changes associated with aging. Liquid facelifts can correct the signs of aging, but they don’t actually slow down the aging process.

Dr. Ali will meet with you and perform a full evaluation of pre-existing conditions, medical history, previous procedures, medications and more. He prides himself on the time and care he devotes to each patient, to insure the procedure he performs is a good fit for them, that their expectations are realistic and that all of their questions are answered. Make an appointment with Dr. Ali to learn more about liquid facelift options, and determine if this procedure is right for you.

Trends in Cosmetic Surgery – The Later In Life Lift

One of the most recent trends in cosmetic surgery is treating patients who are approaching their golden years.  While this demographic isn’t new, the increase in patients considering cosmetic surgery is!  As baby boomers approach retirement, they are choosing to enter it with their best foot forward.  From 2012 to 2013, the number of elective procedures jumped 4% in the 55+ age group.

While nose reshaping is a popular cosmetic procedure across the board, the over 55 crowd tends to lean more towards facial procedures including lifts, forehead lifts, ear reshaping and hair transplants. Regardless of the procedure, the most common reason was that they finally have time to focus on themselves.

While many see cosmetic surgery as purely vain, we feel otherwise.  You work hard every single day to provide for yourself and loved ones – shouldn’t you feel your best?  Some of the unknown benefits that our patients experience are increased self-esteem and confidence!

Don’t believe us?  Check out what they have to say in our reviews section!  Dr. Ali is one of the best in the business, board certified and able to offer you a comprehensive experience – even with non-invasive procedures.

As you ease into your retirement, have you considered a nip or tuck?  Perhaps a procedure that will finally take care of the area that has been frustrating you?  Contact us today for a consultation!

Liquid Facelifts – A Possible Alternative to Surgery!

A Liquid Facelift can give you a more youthful look without committing to surgery. The patients that usually opt for a Liquid Facelift are the ones who want to restore their vibrant appearance without having a facelift or brow lift. A Liquid Facelift is a procedure that literally “plumps up” a facial area in order to minimize lines and wrinkles. It has become a mainstay facial rejuvenator. The liquid facelift is a nonsurgical way to take years off your appearance by strategically placing a variety of freezers and fillers that can help to turn back the clock.

To restore volume or to provide definition, your plastic surgeon can inject fillers along the cheekbone. Botox may be used to freeze the muscles, most notably between the eyebrows, which relaxes deep lines. While there are a variety of injectables available, different ones produce varying effects. Not all of them last the same length of time.

A Liquid Facelift treats many areas of concern, the most common include:

  • Reduce lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases
  • Subtly lift drooping facial features like the brows and jowls
  • Improve under-eye bags and dark circles under the eyes
  • Lift drooping corners of the mouth
  • Hide bumps on the nose
  • Create a fuller appearance in sunken areas
  • Add volume to flattened cheeks or temples
  • Create fuller lips
  • Minimize creases between the eyebrows

How long does a Liquid Facelift last?

The effects of a Liquid facelift can last for 1-2 years for a full correction. Depending on the areas treated and the products used, a Liquid facelift can have beautiful, non-evasive and natural looking results.

What products are used in a Liquid Facelift?

A variety of different facial fillers and freezers may be used to contour your face. Including:

It’s important to seek advice from a professional before undergoing any kind of cosmetic procedure. A good plastic surgeon will be able to offer advice and information in order to help you make an informed decision that is right for you. An experienced physician will generally have a better understanding of the advanced injection techniques and product combinations that will extend your results. Extensive experience also contributes to a physician’s treatment recommendation, which includes subtle product placement, injection locations and techniques and product selection.

What is a Lightening Lift for Skin?

A lightening lift is a form of Lactic/Kolic Acid Resurfacing. This resurfacing solution is a pigmentation resurfacing peel that works to lighten, brighten and tighten your skin! The peel is intended for people who suffer from pigmentation, aging skin and/or dehydrated skin.

So what exactly is it?

Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy exfoliator and is derived from sour milk. We know – yuck right? Don’t worry; it’s just all the good parts that help your skin to be ultra-moisturized and hydrated! (Rumor has it this was a key element of Cleopatra’s beauty regimen)

Kojic Acid is a skin lightener that is a fine white powdery substance composed of small crystals. When applied to the skin in concentrated form, the components of the kojic acid interact with the melanocytes which interfere with melanin production. Melanin causes your skin to tan – reducing the production of melanin results in a lightening effect by changing the pigmentation of the skin.

In addition to lightening, Kojic Acid is also classified as an antioxidant and can help reduce the effects of free radicals on the skin, giving it wonderful anti-aging properties. Did we mention that it gets even better?! This wonder acid is also anti-bacterial, making it perfect for people who suffer from chronic acne.

The combination of these two ingredients makes for a skin treatment that is cleansing, that resurfaces skin, all while keeping it hydrated and saturated with anti-oxidants. From evening out your skin to treating acne spots and scars to kick-starting your anti-aging regimen this treatment does it all!

We offer two levels – Level 1 is the basic Lactic/Kojic Acid peel – this peel is the basic version that will help with hyper pigmentation, acne and skin discoloration. If you are looking to upgrade and add some additional anti-aging properties like retinol and vitamin-C we recommend our Level 2 peel.
