15 Frequently Asked Questions About Exosome Facials

What Our Patients Want to Know About Exosome Facials

#1. What are exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny, naturally occurring particles that are released by cells in the body. They act as messengers, carrying information between cells and facilitating communication and interaction between them.

#2. How do exosome facials rejuvenate skin ?

Exosomes contain growth factors, cytokines, and other signaling molecules that can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. They can also help to reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair, leading to smoother, more youthful-looking skin.

#4. What skin conditions can be improved with an exosome facial?

Exosome facials can be used to improve a variety of skin conditions, including fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne scarring, and uneven skin tone and texture.

#5. Is an exosome facial safe?

Yes, exosome facials are extremely safe because they are substances naturally found in the human body. At AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa in Birmingham, MI we use clinical grade EXOM brand exosomes that are derived from mesenchymal stem cells that have been carefully screened and tested for safety.

#6. Are there any side effects of an exosome facial?

Exosome facials have no known side effects. Because the exosomes are applied topically, there is no redness, swelling, or bruising due to the exosomes. In fact, when combined with radiofrequency or laser treatments, exosomes have been shown to increase healing and recovery by 50%!

#7. How long do the results of an exosome facial last?

The results of an exosome facial will last for several months -usually a year or longer – depending on the individual’s skin type, age, and lifestyle factors. Maintenance treatments may be recommended to help maintain the results over time. Touchup treatments can extend the anti-aging benefits of exosomes even longer.

#8. Are exosome facials safe for darker skin tones and colors?

Yes, exosome facials are safe for all skin types and colors, including darker skin tones. Since exosomes are derived from cells present in the human body, there is no risk of an allergic or adverse skin reaction.

#10. How long does it take to see results from an exosome treatment?

The time it takes to see results from exosome treatments varies depending on the individual and the condition being treated. Most patients notice an improvement in skin texture and tone within a few days, while optimal results will continue to develop over the next several weeks, as the body continues to produce new collagen and elastin to repair damaged cells.

#11. Can topical exosome treatments be combined with other Botox and fillers?

Yes, topical exosome treatments can be combined with Botox and fillers. Our skilled aestheticians and nurses will discuss your appearance goals to determine the best treatment plan based on your individual needs.

#12. How is an exosome facial therapy used in tandem with laser & radiofrequency treatments?

Exosome facial therapy can be used in tandem with laser and radiofrequency treatments to enhance the benefits of both treatments. The exosomes work to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which helps to improve skin texture and tone. When used in combination with laser and radiofrequency treatments, the exosomes can help to further improve the results of these procedures.

#13. Are exosomes and stem cells the same thing?

Exosomes and stem cells are not the same thing. While both play a role in cellular communication and regeneration, stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the potential to develop into different types of cells, while exosomes are tiny vesicles (delivery vehicles) derived from stem cells that contain molecules that can help heal and repair damaged cells.

#14. What is the difference between a PRP facial and an exosome facial?

The main difference between a PRP facial and an exosome facial is the source of the regenerative material. PRP facial uses platelet-rich plasma derived from the patient’s own blood to promote collagen production and rejuvenate the skin. Exosome facials, on the other hand, use exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells to stimulate cellular regeneration and improve skin texture and tone.

PRP facials typically involved either microneedling or injections to deliver the PHP into the skin’s lower layer (dermis). However, EXOM exosome therapy is applied topically – usually in conjunction with other treatments.

#15. How many exosome treatments are required for optimal results?

The number of exosome treatments required for optimal results also varies depending on the individual’s skin and the type and severity of the skin condition(s) being treated. Patients typically see visible results with just one treatment. Patients with more severe skin damage may wish to schedule a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart is recommended for best results.

What Are Exosome Skin Care Treatments?

Why Your Anti-AgingSkin Care Routine Needs Vitamin A & C

Anti-Aging Benefits of Vitamin A & Vitamin C Skin Care

The skin is the body’s largest organ – whose purpose is to act as a barrier against the environment.  When understanding “anti-aging” it is important to understand that the skin is comprised of two layers. The thinner epidermis (outer layer) provides the barrier function. And the much thicker dermis (inner layer) provides structure, strength, thickness, “plumpness,” and elasticity.

The skin is exposed to a number of daily influences over a person’s lifetime time that affect the skin’s structure, function, and appearance. One of the most important factors affecting skin condition is the quality of the nutrients it receives. Like any organ in the body, the skin needs the proper vitamins, minerals, proteins, etc. to build new cells as well as repair damaged cells.

In this article the anti-aging experts at AMAE discuss the importance of Vitamin A and Vitamin C in skin care for fighting the signs of aging and maintaining youthful skin.

Vitamin C Anti-Aging Skin Care

Young skin contains high levels of vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid). High Vitamin C levels provide antioxidant protection against UV photodamage from the sun. But several recent research studies have shown that photodamaged skin, or skin with visible signs of aging have low levels of Vitamin C. This research has demonstrated that excessive exposure to UV radiation from the sun, as well as oxidative stress from exposure to pollution and chemicals (including cleansers and makeup) are associated with reduced Vitamin C levels in the skin’s outer epidermal layer [1].

Vitamin C is also required for the skin to produce elastin and collagen. Collagen is the protein “building block” that gives the skin a thick, smooth texture. While elastin is the protein that provides skin with tightness and the ability to “snap back,” rather than droop or sag.

Melanin is the “pigment” in the body that causes age spots, sun spots, freckles, and other unwanted pigmentation. Vitamin C also plays a crucial role in decreasing melanin synthesis, due to photodamage from the sun.

Skin care research has shown that both dietary and topical delivery of vitamin C fight sun damage, increase collagen and elastin, and reduce the formation of dark spots. [2]

Vitamin A Anti-Aging Skin Care

Vitamin A is also necessary for maintaining smooth, clear, young skin. One of Vitamin A’s most important roles in the body is to help speed up healing. And this includes repairing skin cells damaged by sun exposure. Vitamin A also helps prevents acne breakouts and promotes natural hydration.

Vitamin A was actually the very first vitamin approved by the FDA for use as an anti-wrinkle agent. Since then, there has been an abundance of clinical research that further supports the effectiveness of topical Vitamin A skin care products for anti-aging benefits. [3]

Vitamin A belongs to a class called “retinoids”. “First generation retinoids” refers to all natural retinoids including: retinol, retinal, tretinoin, isotretinoin. Retinol, retinal and retinoic acid have the same biological features as vitamin A. [3]. These ingredients are what patient should be looking for in an anti-aging skin care product.

Second and third generation retinoids – such as etretinate, acitretin- are synthetic compounds that resemble retinoids – but aren’t as effective as natural Vitamin A derivatives.

Retinoids help regulate new skin cell production and turnover. Retinoids also provide anti-wrinkle protection by strengthening the epidermis, preventing moisture loss, and protecting collagen from breaking down. [3] For this reason Vitamin A and its derivatives are among the most effective ingredients used in skin care products to slow the aging process.

In addition to boosting collagen and elastin production, Vitamin A (retinoids), also has strong anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce clogged pores and decrease acne breakouts.

How to Get Vitamin A & Vitamin C to the Skin

But many people do not get enough Vitamin A or Vitamin C in their diet, due to processed or “fast” foods and/or because they simply don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Fortunately, topical Vitamin A and Vitamin C – from skin care creams and serums – has been shown in clinical studies to be highly effectively at getting these two essential nutrients directly to the skin.

When it comes to Vitamin A and Vitamin C skin care products, the anti-aging skin care experts at AMAE prefer the clinical grade products from Alastin and ZO Skin Health.

Alastin Renewal Retinol serum was recently featured as a top skin care product in Oprah Magazine. This advanced retinol serum helps build collagen and hydrates at the same time – which immediately diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and helps repair the skin for long term benefits. Alastin Renewal Retinol is also safe for beginners, too, because it has a smaller concentration of retinol. Once the skin adjusts to the Vitamin A, patients can graduate to Alastin’s more powerful retinal formulas.

ZO 10% Vitamin C Self Activating is another of our favorite anti-aging skin care products for defending against sun and environmental damage, minimizing the appearance of discoloration, fine lines, and wrinkles.

By giving skin the nutrients that it needs every day, Vitamins A and C (along with other essential nutrients, antioxidants and peptides) can help patients achieve healthier, more resilient, younger looking skin … at any age!

Why Rosacea is Misdiagnosed in Black Patients

Diagnosing & Treating Rosacea on Black Skin

Rosacea is famously difficult to diagnose, but in people of color rosacea can be even more problematic to identify.  While many physicians have little experience with darker skin, Dr. Ali has been helping patients with melanin-rich skin receive the best diagnoses and most advanced and appropriate skincare treatments for more than 3 decades.

In this article he discusses the challenges of treating rosacea in Black and brown skin.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a puzzling skin condition that causes chronic flareups of inflammation in more than 14 million people in the U.S. Yet medical science still does not understand completely what cause rosacea. Misinformation about rosacea is also constantly disseminated, making it even harder to treat properly.  And myths about rosacea include untruths such as “it’s just blushing,” “it’s an allergic reaction,” or “only white people get rosacea”.

But the truth is the symptoms of rosacea are the same, regardless of skin color or ethnicity. Although its characteristic redness may be harder to see on brown or Black skin.

Rosacea is an inflammatory condition most commonly seen on the cheeks and nose, that consists of tiny broken blood vessels.  Other rosacea symptoms include skin sensitivity, swelling, and changes in skin texture.

Why Rosacea is Misdiagnosed in Black Patients

On light or Caucasian skin, rosacea is characterized by a very red appearance (medically call erythema) – hence its descriptive name “rosacea”. But the flushing of rosacea can present as a violet, purple, or even a dusky brown hue on Black skin. This is because the melanin in dark skin tends to mask the redness. As a result, more subtle appearing rosacea often gets missed or and misdiagnosed on Black patients.

And in medical textbooks, the majority of the images for rosacea only show it on lighter skin – further perpetuating confusion about its prevalence on Black individuals.

Additionally, rosacea often presents differently on different people. Some patients just have redness while other shave pustules. So, some types of rosacea can look extremely similar to other skin conditions, especially acne. Especially in darker-skinned individuals, rosacea often appears as inflamed bumps and pus-filled pimples – leading to the incorrect diagnosis and improper treatment.

For example, if someone with rosacea is diagnosed with acne, powerful retinoids, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide may be prescribed. And while these treatments can improve acne breakouts, they can easily make rosacea-prone skin worse.

Diagnosing Rosacea on Black Skin

When clinically diagnosing rosacea on dark skin, a thorough physical examination of clean bare skin needs to be conducted in high light. The eyes can also be a clue to rosacea, as rosacea can gradually affect the eyes, leaving them itchy, dry, or watery.

It is essential to diagnose rosacea on black skin as early as possible because if diagnosed later, there is a higher chance of additional complications such as hyperpigmentation or thickening of the skin on the nose. Late diagnosis can also lead to issues with vision.

Treating Rosacea on Black Skin

Regardless of the patient’s skin color, there is no definitive cure for rosacea. Symptoms tend to come and go. And rosacea treatment involves combining skin care, medications, and lifestyle adjustments (such as avoiding certain known triggers).  But the good news is that rosacea is manageable in people of all skin tones and colors under a specialized doctor’s care.

Skin Care Products for Black Rosacea Patients

A skin care regimen incorporating hydrating and replenishing ingredients such as niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides can help restore the skin’s compromised barrier – while avoiding abrasive scrubs and over-cleansing. Daily application of an SPF 30 or higher is important, too.

These products should be medically developed clinical grade products like those offered in our office by EltaMD and in our online stores by Zo Skin Health and Alastin. EltaMD Barrier Renewal Complex, Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 and Zo Skin Health Rozatrol® are a few of the products we offer our rosacea patients. We can help you determine the right skincare products during your consultation.

In Office Treatments for Black Rosacea Patients

Carefully selected in-office treatments can also reduce the inflammation and pustules of rosacea. However, treatments for Black patients must be carefully chosen – because not all treatments are safe for melanin-rich skin.

For example, Fraxel laser can be used to reduce rosacea flareups in light skinned patients – but are not safe for darker skin tones. Lasers like Fraxel and CO2 can be dangerous for dark skin because they are “ablative” (take off the top layer of skin) which can result in permanent hyperpigmentation when used on darker complexions.

However, at AMAE in the Detroit area we offer non-ablative treatments that are safe for darker skin – including Gentle but powerful “DiamondGlow” that uses the power of water pressure to clear out pores and infuse customized serums. Certain specially formulated medical-grade facials can also be applied to sooth the inflammation and eliminate the pustules of rosacea.

EltaMD Sunscreens Provide Safe, Natural UV Protection

EltaMD Sunscreens Provide Safe, Natural UV Protection

August is the hottest and sunniest time of year in Michigan. So, most of us are anxious to hit the beach and enjoy other outdoor activities – from cycling and hiking to backyard barbeques. Of course, by now everyone knows that sunscreen should be applied daily to protect the skin from dangerous UV rays.

Proper skin protection is the most effective way to ward of lines, wrinkles, age spots and other signs of aging. Sunscreen is also the best way to avoid the development of skin cancer. But, with so many sunscreens on the market, it is hard to know which brand is best for our skin.

At AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, we have done the research for you! And, the clear winner is the EltaMD comprehensive line of sunscreens. EltaMD sunscreens are fragrance-free so you don’t smell like a Pina Colada all day. And they are noncomedogenic – which means they do not clog pores.

We love EltaMD sunscreens because they are lightweight and creamy sunscreen, absorb quickly and leaves no white cast. Even EltaMD offers a wide range of sunscreen formulas – with one that is right for virtually every skin care need.

Because we are such big fans of EltaMD’s spectrum of sun protectors for all skin types and concerns, offer these products for purchase at the best prices possible to our patients in our Birmingham Med Spa. Below is a discussion of some of our favorite EltaMD sunscreen products, to help you choose the UV protection that is right for your skin type and your lifestyle.

EltaMD UV Restore Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen

This sunscreen is great for pairing with a daily makeup look that is dewy and natural, with just a touch of bronze. This slightly tinted mineral sunscreen conceals flaws – blending out discolorations and toning down redness – while adding just a natural pop of color and glow to the skin.

The iron oxides in this formula help to filter visible light and aid in the prevention of hyperpigmentation. Additionally, ginger root and saccharide isomerate (a sugar like molecule) are active components that assist in reducing dark spots.

Another important component, squalane, promotes all day hydration by naturally locking in moisture without disturbing the skin’s delicate skin barrier – which makes it ideal for those with sensitive skin.

EltaMD UV Sheer Broad-Spectrum SPF 50+ Sunscreen

When the weather begins to climb on humid days in Michigan, nothing beats EltaMD UV Sheer Broad-Spectrum SPF 50. This sunscreen formula prevents 98 percent of UVB rays – yet is breakout-free a result of the product’s noncomedogenic nature, which does not clog pores.

I’s thin, glossy texture means it can be applied liberally without the danger of going overboard since the sunscreen almost melts into the skin upon application, completely absorbing. And since it is also water- and sweat-resistant it won’t come off after a swim or a run. Unlike other brands of high-protection sunscreens it never feels sticky, even in high humidity, and provides sun protection without the white cast.

EltaMD UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 Sunscreen

EltaMD UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 is ideal for patients with acne-prone skin. Two important components in this product are niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, which help soothe and protect the skin from irritation.

In addition to being an excellent option for anybody suffering from acne, it is also ideal for men and women suffering from rosacea or hyperpigmentation. And for patients whose complexion may be very dry, particularly in specific areas around the face, hyaluronic also rehydrates skin, while acting as a sun-protected concealer replacement. There really is nothing that this sunscreen cannot accomplish!

EltaMD UV Replenish Broad-Spectrum SPF 44 Sunscreen

EltaMD UV Replenish Broad-Spectrum SPF 44 is excellent for patients prone to dry, parched skin. Someone with dry can reap the benefits from using this sunblock even if they are not going outside.

Daily use of this sunscreen may result in noticeably plumper, more moisturized skin. This formula includes hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate), a humectant with a 1,000-fold capacity to retain water, as well as a moisturizing component called dimethicone, which traps moisture in the skin and helps it retain hydration.

We love EltaMD UV Replenish Broad-Spectrum SPF 44 so much we have put in on sale at 10% off for the Month of August 2021, so all of our patients can experience the amazing skin replenishing benefits that this product offers in addition to excellent sun protection.

What to Know About the Benzene Sunscreen Recall

What to Know About the Benzene Sunscreen Recall

Recent discoveries of the chemical benzene in certain topical sunscreens have sparked concerns among doctors and patients alike. And while physicians are split on the right degree of alarm about this problem, one thing is clear: Benzene does not belong in sunscreen.

In this article the skin care experts at AMAE Plastic Surgery & Med Spa in the Troy, MI area discuss the most recent data about the sunscreens that were recalled for containing sunscreen – and provide you with the information you need to ensure your sunscreen is benzene free!

The Benzene Sunscreen Recall

Johnson & Johnson announced a voluntary recall this past month for many of its sunscreen sprays manufactured by Neutrogena. These included:

  • Beach Defense,
  • Cool Dry Sport,
  • Invisible Daily,
  • Ultra Sheer
  • Aveeno (Protect + Refresh).

These contaminated products were all in spray format, not lotion or cream.

If you have any of these products you should discontinue their usage and contact the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Care Center 24/7 with inquiries or to seek a refund: 1-800-458-1673

Johnson & Johnson continues to downplay the incident, saying in a statement that “internal testing revealed minor amounts of benzene in certain product samples” and that the recall is being conducted “out of an excess of caution”.

What Is Benzene & Why is it a Dangerous Chemical in Sunscreen?

You are not alone if you are unfamiliar with benzene. According to the CDC, it is a chemical that occurs naturally in volcanoes and forest fires – and is also a component of crude oil, gasoline, and cigarette smoke.

According to the CDC, it is a chemical that the majority of Americans are likely exposed to in small amounts on a daily basis, since it is present in trace amounts in the air we breathe due to cigarette smoke, gas stations, motor vehicle exhaust, and industrial emissions. Additionally, Benzene is used to manufacture compounds used in man-made goods such as plastics, dyes, and detergents, as well as glue and paint.

While small quantities of benzene are not as concerning, levels of benzene more than 2 parts per million ppm are perhaps hazardous. Some research suggests that benzene may be carcinogenic when applied to large areas of skin, particularly because benzene is a very volatile solvent – meaning that it penetrates the cell membrane very quickly and easily, and thus can pass right through the skin into the bloodstream.

Are Other Sunscreens Safe?

Because of the recall many of our Troy, MI area patients have expressed concerns regarding the safety of all sunscreens. But these fears are completely baseless, as long as one purchases sunscreen from a trusted, natural brand.

According to a recent American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) pronouncement on the recent recall benzene is not and has never been a component in any sunscreen formulas. In other words, the recent Johnson & Johnson (Neutrogena) contamination problem was due to a mistake with the manufacturing process, not with the sunscreen formulas themselves.

But, earlier this year, the same laboratory that discovered benzene in many sunscreens also discovered it in numerous hand sanitizers. Excessive amounts of benzene have also been detected in soft drinks and other beverages during the past several decades.

Why Skin Needs Hyaluronic Acid & How to Get More of It

Why Skin Needs Hyaluronic Acid – And the Best Way to Get It

Hyaluronic acid is one of those ingredients in skincare products that every manufacturer is touting. In fact, you can barely turn on the TV or scroll the web without seeing multiple adds for something containing hyaluronic acid or “HA”.

So, what is this miracle product, and is it as important (and effective) as everyone is saying? Is it really an acid? And how (and where) should one apply it?

In this article the skincare experts at AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa discuss everything you need to know about hyaluronic acid (HA) – including how you can naturally increase your body’s own production of this amazing substance!

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance that is produced by the body. Its primary job is to hydrate the connective tissue that maintains the skin’s strength and elasticity. 50% of the body’s HA is found in the skin – with the rest being found in the eyes, lips and joints.

What makes hyaluronic acid so amazing is that it can retain over 1,000 times its weight in water, so it is super hydrating. It holds in the moisture that supports a bright, youthful complexion by keeping skin cells plump and strong. There is really no other substance that can help boost moisture levels in the skin like hyaluronic acid does.

Getting Enough Hyaluronic Acid

Many people wonder why they need to get hyaluronic acid from skincare products and treatments if the body already produces HA naturally.

Unfortunately, as we age, the body’s production of natural hyaluronic acid decreases. Babies are born with very high amounts of hyaluronic acid, which is why their skin is so soft, smooth and plump. But by the time we reach the age of 40 the HA levels in our body have already decreased by one-third.

So, people turn to high quality beauty products that contain HA – including moisturizers and night creams –to prevent dry skin and help stave off the effects of aging. Maintaining high levels of hyaluronic acid helps retain moisture and elasticity in the skin, to fight the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging or dull skin.

And, don’t be concerned that HA is an acid. Not all acids strip cells and cause irritation. In fact, hyaluronic acid is actually a type of sugar molecule!

How to Get More Hyaluronic Acid

There are 3 way to improve and increase the amount of HA in the skin – to restore plumpness and elasticity and to fight the signs of aging.

#1. Topical Hyaluronic Skincare Products

When applied directly to the skin, hyaluronic acid will hydrate the skin cells for a plumper appearance that can also minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

HA also has some antioxidant properties that help protect the skin from UV sun exposure and other harsh environmental or chemical exposure.

However, it is important to purchase hyaluronic acid skincare products from a reputable, medical grade brand such as Elastin or ZO. This is because, hyaluronic acid molecules are often too big for skin absorption if they are not formulated properly.

#2. Hyaluronic Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid can be injected directly into the skin and facial tissue, using dermal fillers to help fill wrinkles, and plump thinning or sagging areas of the face.

Popular facial fillers Juvéderm and Restylane are made of hyaluronic acid formulas. And because they are made of a naturally occurring sugar molecule, they are extremely safe, as well as natural looking and feeling, when injected into the skin.

Hyaluronic acid facial filler injections can last from a few months up to an amazing two years – depending on which formula is chosen and where it is injected.

#3. Aesthetic Treatments that Stimulate Hyaluronic Production

The most effective and long-lasting way to maintain high hyaluronic acid levels in the skin is through medical grade skin care treatments that actually stimulate the body to start producing more of its own HA.

At AMAE Med Spa we offer several Laser, Radiofrequency and Microneedling treatments that can activate the body’s natural hyaluronic acid production process – for dramatic and long-lasting anti-aging results.

Topical creams can provide excellent temporary improvements in skin over time. And fillers can offer immediate, impressive skin plumping results that typically last from 6 months to a year. But when you restore the body’s own HA production with laser or radiofrequency treatments you are actually causing the skin to rejuvenate itself from the inside out for continuing improvement.

Our CO2RE and IPL laser treatments, as well as our revolutionary new Profound and Morpheus8 radiofrequency procedures, all deliver thermal energy deep into the dermis (lower layer of skin) to renew production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

This rebuilds and repair the skin on a deep cellular level – smoothing wrinkles, tightening sagging skin, and plumping hollow, flat contours. And the tissue then continues to produce hyaluronic acid, so results are continuing and very long-lasting.

Hyaluronic Acid Products & Treatments

Hyaluronic Acid is known to prevent and reverse the signs of aging – often giving it the nickname ‘fountain of youth’. It helps reduce wrinkles and promote tighter, smoother younger-looking skin by hydrating the cells.

HA also works on all skin-types, even those with oily skin. Additionally, it is safe for all skin tones and colors – even darker skin. And it is also gentle enough for those who have sensitive skin.

If you would like to “turn back time”, schedule a consultation at AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI and see whether hyaluronic acid skincare products, HA dermal fillers, or one of our advanced laser or radiofrequency treatments is right for you!

Turn Back Time with New Co2RE Laser Anti Aging Treatments

Anti Aging with the New Co2RE Laser –

Wanting to look younger isn’t just about being more attractive. A more youthful appearance has been proven to help men and women remain competitive in the workplace, as well as in the fields of sports and politics. Anti Aging treatments also help you look on the outside the youthful way that you feel on the inside – so that you aren’t perceived or treated like a “senior citizen” when you feel like a thirty-year-old!

AMAE Plastic Surgery is one of the first and only providers in the greater Detroit area to offer the amazing new Co2re Laser. This state-of-the-art anti aging technology actually treats 7 different signs of aging with a single innovative laser device.

What Is “Anti Aging”?

The sun’s damaging UV rays, inflamed blemishes, smoking, alcohol consumption, dehydration, medications, pregnancy, and heredity all contribute to lines, wrinkles, discoloration and other signs of aging.

But while wearing SPF 50 on your face every day can help prevent sun damage, it does not slow down the skin’s natural aging process. And, while a good diet and adequate sleep can help as well, the skin continues to age, no matter how healthy your lifestyle.  In fact, a person’s first wrinkles start to get etched as soon as they begin to make facial expressions in the womb!

Many women (and men!) rely on a variety of treatments and medical grade skincare products to turn back time. These can help delay or minimize some of the signs of aging, as well.  But true “anti aging” treatments do more than just hydrate and/or slough off the outer layer of skin. To actually reverse aging involves rejuvenating the skin on a cellular level.

Anti Aging on a Cellular Level

New, state-of-the-art Co2re laser technology does not just remove or reduce signs of aging – it actually regenerates new, healthy skin on a deep cellular level.

Collagen and elastin are the building blocks of healthy skin. These essential proteins form the “matrix” or “scaffolding” of cells that keep the skin firm and elastic and keep it from wrinkling and sagging. But as we age the body produces less and less collagen and elastin.

The CO2RE laser is a state-of-the-art anti aging fractional CO2 laser treatment, now available in the Troy, MI area at AMAE Med Spa.  It is unique in that it incorporates two laser technologies that simultaneously treat both the top layer (epidermis) and the deep layers (dermis) of the skin.

Superficially, CO2RE performs “ablative” resurfacing by removing the top layer of aging or damaged skin – revealing the new, healthy skin cells below. These results are almost immediately visible once the skin has healed.

But, unlike other treatments, CO2RE also delivers fractional laser waves that create microscopic channels far below the skins surface. This re-activates the body’s collagen production and cell renewal processes. The skin then begins to produce collagen and elastin again, like it did when it was younger – naturally repairing skin damaging, tightening & plumping skin, and “filling in” lines and wrinkles.

Co2RE Laser Anti Aging – Troy, MI Area

CO2RE Laser Skin Resurfacing Frequently Asked Questions –

CO2RE laser skin resurfacing treatments are faster, more comfortable, and require less downtime than other laser resurfacing systems. This powerful and versatile laser can address a wide variety of skin concerns – from wrinkles, to pigmentation, to scars and more.

In this article Troy, MI area board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali answers our patient’s most frequently asked questions about CO2RE laser skin resurfacing.

What does CO2RE laser skin resurfacing treat?

The CO2RE laser is extremely versatile – making it “one stop shopping” for anti-aging and skin resurfacing. It treat a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage, such as brown spots or “age spots”
  • Rough & uneven skin texture
  • Pigmentation irregularities
  • Pitted acne scars and pock marks
  • Raised keloid and hypertrophic scars

How does CO2RE laser skin resurfacing work?

The CO2RE laser is so named because it is a fractional CO2 laser. But what makes it unique is that is utilizes dual laser waves that can be adjusted to treat both the superficial (epidermis) and deep (dermis) layers of skin simultaneously.

This integrated dual laser works two ways. First, it performs “ablative” resurfacing treatments to strip away the thin, top layer of aged, damaged skin – revealing fresh, healthy skin beneath.

And, the fractional laser component works by creating micro-channels in the deeper layers of the skin, which stimulates collagen production and cell renewal for repair of skin damage.

Is CO2RE laser skin resurfacing safe?

Yes. The CO2RE laser really is the “gold standard” in skin resurfacing. It is FDA cleared for more than 90 uses across many medical specialties from aesthetics, to dermatology, gynecology and more.

More than 52 million patients have had wrinkle reduction treatments with the CO2RE laser. And, more than 15 million patients have received CO2RE pigmentation treatment, with another 15 million having CO2RE scar reduction procedures.

What are the advantages of CO2RE laser skin resurfacing?

CO2RE is a powerful and versatile, yet gentle, fractional CO2 laser with energy waves that can be adjusted for each patient, to treat both superficial and deep skin tissue simultaneously.

As a result, CO2RE is faster, more comfortable and requires less recovery time than traditional laser skin resurfacing.

Am I good candidate for CO2RE laser skin resurfacing?

CO2RE fractional laser resurfacing is ideal for almost any man or woman who desires either smoother and/or younger-looking skin without the prolonged downtime of older laser treatments.

Ideal candidates for CO2RE treatment have mild, moderate or severe sun damage, age/dark spots, wrinkles and lines, rough skin texture, unwanted pigmentation or visible scars.

How many CO2RE laser skin resurfacing treatments will I need?

Typically patients achieve the skin resurfacing results they desire after only a single treatment.

When will I see results after CO2RE laser skin resurfacing?

Initially results will become visible once the skin has healed from the procedure. For light treatments, this typically only takes 2 to 3 days. Deeper skin resurfacing treatments may require up to 2 weeks of healing, before the initial improvements appear.

The skin will look softer, smoother and have less unwanted pigment. And, over time, the results will continue to improve for several months, as the skin regeneration process takes place.

Lines, wrinkles, age/dark spots, scars and uneven skin texture will continue to show improvement for up to six months as the body produces new collagen and elastin and repairs previous skin damage.

How long will CO2RE laser skin resurfacing results last?

There are a number of factors that will determine how long CO2RE skin resurfacing results will last including the patient’s age, genetics, overall health, lifestyle and how well the patient cares for their skin after treatment.

However, wrinkle reduction results can last several years. And improvement in the appearance of scaring and pigmentation is expected to be more or less permanent!

What is the recovery period after CO2RE laser skin resurfacing?

Immediately following the procedure, patients experience a sensation similar to a sunburn, that will dissipate in several hours.

For lighter treatments, recovery can only take a couple of days, while deeper and more intense treatments may need 10 to 14 days to heal completely. Peeling of the dead skin cells from most treatments will begin after about 4 or 5 days, and the natural exfoliation may continue to last for 7 to 10 days.

Dr. Ali will discuss your unique treatment with you so you know what to expect from your healing process.
