SaveSmile Sudan – 2020
Children suffering from cleft lips and palates are a major medical issue in Sudan. They have difficulty in eating and speaking, suffer from bullying, and find limited options for marriage and employment in adulthood. Dr. Ali and IMR surgical teams have traveled to Sudan the past ten years, providing 1,538 free cleft lip reconstructions. And at the end of this month Dr. Ali will be traveling to Sudan for the 11th year to change children’s lives.
This is a procedure so basic and commonly done in the U.S., but nearly unattainable in Sudan — many families travel by foot for a chance to be seen by Dr. Ali and the IMR team.

Earthquake in Kashmir – 2005
In October 2005, a cataclysmic earthquake rocked Pakistan. Dr. Ali and a team of medical professionals responded to the call for help.
Dr. Ali has always had a deep desire to help the less fortunate and was deeply disturbed by the images and stories of suffering on the television. He resolved to go and offer his help as a surgeon in any way he could. His life-altering story of the three weeks he spent there is documented in this telephone interview. It is a unique window into who he is and why he does what he does.
