Botox®
Botox® Cosmetic is a non-surgical procedure that helps to smooth the deep, persistent facial lines and wrinkles that may develop over time. Dr. Ali offers Botox treatments at his Detroit, Michigan cosmetic surgery practice to patients in Troy, Rochester Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Farmington Hills, Detroit, and Clarkston.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox (OnabotulinumtoxinA) is a naturally-derived and purified protein that is injected at very low doses to reduce muscle contractions in the face. When you are no longer able to contract your facial muscles, the wrinkles begin to diminish and disappear.
The results can be dramatic, but they will not change your facial appearance. The muscles in your face simply become relaxed. You will still be able to smile, frown and look surprised, just without all the wrinkles and creases that usually result from such facial expressions.
What to Expect During Botox Treatment
The Botox procedure is completely safe and usually lasts around 15 minutes. The total amount of Botox you need and the amount of time required will depend on how many wrinkles and lines need to be treated.
Dr. Ali will begin by injecting the Botox filler using an ultra-fine needle directly into the affected area. In most cases, you won’t feel any discomfort while the procedure is ongoing. If you do feel discomfort, it will be slight and brief and will go away completely by the time the procedure is finished.
Following the procedure, you will be able to resume your daily activities immediately. Dr. Ali will give you explicit instructions that will help with complete recovery. You should keep out of the sun and avoid rubbing the area for at least a few days.
What Areas Can Be Treated with Botox?
Botox Cosmetic treatments can be used in a wide variety of locations. Most patients choose the forehead, neck, and the areas around the eyes and mouth.
The results will appear within a few days after the injections have been administered, and will generally last from 4 to 6 months.
How Many Times Should Botox Be Used?
With repeated injections, the affected muscles will begin to atrophy and become weaker, so they may wake up a little less each time. This means that the lines and wrinkles in your face may begin to disappear on a more permanent basis, alleviating the need to come in as often for Botox treatments.
