#5. Profound to Tighten Facial Skin

One of the news and most exciting treatments to tighten facial skin is state-of-the-art Profound. This revolutionary technology not only tightens facial skin and improves elasticity, it also reduces wrinkles, and creates more volume, and “plumpness”.

Profound also utilizes radiofrequency energy combined with microneedling to activate the skin’s healing processes and regenerate production of collagen and elastin.

Profound is so effective at facial skin tightening that it is often called a “non-surgical facelift”. Profound is especially effective at tightening sagging skin around the mouth and “jowls”.

In medical studies, Profound has been shown to achieve facial skin tightening results that are equal to an 37% of a surgical facelift.

#6. The “Liquid Facelift” to Tighten Facial Skin

Dr. Ali also employs a variety of FDA approved injectable products to replace lost volume and “fill in” wrinkles and deep creases and folds in the face and tighten facial skin. For immediate facial skin tightening results, with no surgery and no downtime, the so-called “liquid facelift” can create outstanding results.

Results from strategically placed injections of Juvéderm and other facial fillers can give the appearance of dramatically tightened skin –  and can last from six months to as long as two years.

VOLUMA® XC – the thickest, strongest formula of Juvéderm – can be used to add volume to a hollow or sagging cheek area, and lasts up to two years. VOLLURE™ XC can be used to plump and fill severe parentheses (“marionette”) lines in the area around the nose and mouth, and lasts up to 18 months.

In the hands of a skilled injector, like Birmingham, MI board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali, skillfully placed fillers can create a “liquid face lift” that tightens facial skin and takes years off of your appearance.

#7. Mini Facelift Surgery to Tighten Facial Skin

Of course, the most dramatic and long lasting way to tighten facial skin is through facelift surgery at AMAE Plastic Surgery in Birmingham , MI.  There are several different types of facelift procedures and techniques, offering different cosmetic results, and varying degrees of invasiveness, downtime and recovery.

The “Mini Facelift” and/or SMS Facelift refer to facelift procedures that help reduce visible signs of aging, by tightening and firming the cheeks, jawline and to some extent the neck.

During an SMAS facelift Birmingham, Mi board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali creates an incision at the temple, above the hairline, which extends downward, following the natural crease in front of the ear, below the ear lobe and then behind your ear. It is ideal for people with mild to moderate skin laxity.

#8. Full Facelift Surgery to Tighten Facial Skin

A “full” or “deep plane” facelift that is recommended for people with severe facial sagging and laxity, and for those men and women desiring a longer-lasting facelift.

As the aging process progresses, both the skin and the muscles of the facial region become loose and lax. Facelift surgery not only tightens facial skin, but also tightens the underlying muscles. No other cosmetic procedures besides a surgical facelift can tighten and restore the muscles as well as the facial skin.

The effects of a full facelift can last from 10 to 15 years, and sometimes longer. Because of the extensive nature of a full facelift, the recovery time is longer than other facelift procedures – but the dramatic and long lasting results are well worth it.

The Science Behind Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift

The Science Behind Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift –

At AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa in the Detroit area, we proudly offer our patients the innovative new Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift.

The Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift is a form of radiofrequency treatment capable not only of tightening the patient’s skin, but also increasing volume and improving elasticity of tissue -particularly in wrinkles around the mouth and in the area around the jowls. The unparalleled results of this RF Non-Surgical Facelift treatment are due it its ability to stimulate the production of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Profound is so effective as an RF non-surgical facelift alternative, it has been clinically proven to produce results that match the effect of facelift surgery by as much as one-third or more.

With over 30 years of experience in his field, board certified Detroit area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali views the profound RF non-surgical facelift as one of the most remarkable advancements in the history of aesthetic medicine. This article focuses on the technical science behind the Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift. For more general information read our Profound Non-Surgical Facelift FAQs.

The Science Behind Radiofrequency Non-surgical Facelifts

The Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift treatment is performed using a long-pulse, multi-bipolar, radio-frequency microneedling device. This allows for the Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift to deliver precisely the correct amount of energy required to safely and reliably smooth and tighten the skin of the treatment area.

Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift vs CO2 Lasers

In addition to the Profound RF Non-Surgical facelift, we also offer our Detroit area patients CO2 laser skin resurfacing. While this procedure is an excellent way to treat facial lines and wrinkles, it does noting to improve the skin’s elasticity. The Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift device is the first of its kind to receive approval from the FDA to promote the production of elastin.

The Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift is able to treat sagginess in the skin of the jowls, neck, and lower face in a way that a CO2 laser simply cannot. The Profound RF Non-Surgical facelift also has an advantage over CO2 laser treatments thanks to its superior ability to soften and improve wrinkles and lines surrounding the mouth.

And unlike a Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift, results from CO2 laser skin resurfacing are preceded by a lengthy period of redness. Additionally, the Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift has the added benefit of being able to treat skin anywhere on the body besides the eyelids. CO2 laser skin resurfacing, on the other hand, can only be performed on the face. And finally, CO2 laser skin resurfacing has the ability to permanently lighten the skin of the treatment area -something Profound RF Non-Surgical Facelift patients do not have to worry about.

Do I Need Dermal Fillers or a Facelift?

Do I Need Dermal Fillers or a Facelift?

Thanks to their ability to provide significant, non-surgical facial rejuvenation, dermal fillers have experienced a huge increase in popularity in recent years. But while dermal fillers do help avoid the downtime faced by patients of facelift surgery, the results of dermal fillers are less dramatic. So the efficacy of dermal fillers can be limited for some patients, particularly as an option for older individuals. For such these patients, the best path to facial rejuvenation may be facelift surgery – which is capable of reversing the effects of aging such as deep wrinkles or skin that has significantly lost elasticity.

So how exactly does one decide between a facelift and dermal fillers? In this article, Troy, MI area board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains who can benefit from dermal fillers and who is a better candidate for a facelift.

Dermal Fillers as a Facelift Alternative

For treating signs of the aging process on the minor-to-moderate end of the spectrum, dermal fillers can often be a better option than a facelift. At AMAE in the Troy, MI area, we provide a wide selection of dermal fillers, as well as other injectable treatments such as Botox.

While facelift surgery was once the only way of medically addressing facial issues relating to age, men and women may now choose from a several types of dermal fillers to correct the signs of aging. Fillers like Volbella and Juvéderm are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), and can be used to instantly add volume to the lips or to smooth out wrinkles. Rather than undergoing facelift surgery, Troy, MI area patients may instead add volume to their face, cheeks or temples with fillers like Voluma.

But while a facelift provides lasting facial rejuvenation results that can last a decade, dermal fillers are significantly less long-lasting. On average, dermal fillers will last from 3 months to a year – with a few of the more durable fillers lasting up to 18 months or 2 years. However, unlike facelift surgery, getting dermal fillers is a relatively painless procedure with no downtime – and only some minor swelling or bruising.  Dermal filler patients are able to return to their normal routine as soon as their appointment is complete!

Many of our patients visit our Troy, MI area office for dermal fillers on their lunch break and return to work as soon as they are finished. The same, obviously, cannot be said of facelift surgery patients.

What A Facelift Can Do That Fillers Cannot

Despite their many advantages, dermal fillers also come with one major, unavoidable downside: results can only be maintained by repeatedly undergoing additional injections. And dermal fillers are incapable of eliminating deeper folds and wrinkles, vertical neck bands caused by loose skin, severely etched lines (often located above the upper lip), or the formation of jowls. Instead, patients who wish to correct these more advanced signs of aging may instead want to consider facelift surgery.

The Facelift Procedure

After making several very fine incisions (hidden around the patient’s hairline, past the ears, and under their chin), board certified Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali then manually works to separate the skin from the underlying muscles of the face. Once excess fat has been removed and the muscles have undergone any necessary tightening, the skin will then be pulled back to the line of the initial incision, and stitched back in place.

While numerous different types of facelift procedures are available, almost every technique used to perform facelift surgery is capable of dramatically reducing symptoms of aging. Through facelift surgery, men and women in the Troy, MI area are capable of looking many years younger than their actual age.

And while facelift surgery does require our Troy, MI area patients to spend several days resting and recovering, the long-lasting results are well worth the downtime. By maintaining strong bone structure and a consistent body weight, the effects of a facelift can last as long as a full decade. A far cry from the 4 – 18 months of dermal fillers.

Furthermore, Troy, MI area patients many even find that, in the long run, facelift surgery is much more cost effective than ongoing dermal fillers. While a single dermal filler treatment obviously costs less than a facelift, patients must remember that dermal fillers must be maintained through a continuous series of injections. So, while the dollar amount spent on their treatment plan will vary from person to person, the cost of a facelift can actually be cheaper than the total cumulative cost of touching up one’s dermal fillers every few months.

Dermal Fillers & Facelifts – Troy, MI Area

Both facelift surgery and dermal fillers each offer their own unique advantages. While some Troy, MI area patients will best meet their aesthetic goals through dermal fillers, others will benefit more greatly from a facelift.

In order to determine whether you are more ideally suited for dermal fillers or facelift surgery, schedule a consultation at AMAE Plastic Surgery & Med Spa today, where board certified Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali will help decide which procedure is right for you.

Rhytidectomy -the medical name for facelift- a surgical means of improving the face and neck’s visible signs of aging. As the aging process continues, both the muscles and skin of the facial region are subject to a loss in tone. A facelift can help reverse this by re-draping the skin of the face and neck, removing deposits of fat, and tightening deeper facial structures. A facelift may be performed by itself, or in a combination with other cosmetic procedures such as a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or liposuction.

Is a facelift procedure right for me?

Whether or not someone is a good facelift candidate will vary from person to person. Prior to every procedure, board certified Troy, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali comprehensively evaluates each of his patients to determine whether facelift surgery is right for them. Once this is determined, Dr. Ali will educate the patient on all the specifics of their procedure and makes sure they are comfortable with their treatment plan. And for patients whom he determines are not right for the procedure, Dr. Ali will offer other treatments available that can help reach their specific aesthetic goals.

What should I expect during a facelift consultation?

Board certified Troy, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali takes great care to make sure each facelift patient is sufficiently prepared for their procedure. This begins by conducting a consultation with the patient, during which the patient’s medical history and treatment goals will be extensively discussed. The patient’s facial features will also be analyzed, to help determine the best course of treatment.

During the consultation, patients will also receive in-depth answers to any questions they may have regarding their facelift. Based on this information, the patient can determine if they still feel a facelift is the best way to meet their aesthetic goals. Should the patient or the doctor determine this not to be the case, alternative methods of facial rejuvenation will be discussed.

Will a facelift make me look stretched?

No, as long as it performed by a skilled and highly experienced board certified plastic surgeon.

In the time during which the facelift was being perfected, plastic surgeons typically performed the procedure by pulling back the skin of the face, cutting away the remaining skin, and sewing up the incision. Since then, remarkable advancements have been made that rely on lifting and tightening facial muscles and restoring volume, rather than simply tightly pulling the skin. The end result is a much more natural appearance than the dramatic “stretched” look people often erroneously associate with early facelift procedures from several decades ago.

In sum, a skilled board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali can make a patient look years younger, by tightening skin in a natural looking manner.

Will a facelift also fix my sagging neck?

Facelift surgery is frequently combined with a neck lift, as long as the patient is an appropriate candidate. Neck lifts are most commonly performed to treat the appearance of a “turkey neck” – loose folds of skin beneath the chin. Neck lifts are also performed to restore the underlying muscle structures of the patient’s neck.

What kind of anesthesia is used for a facelift?

The anesthesia used in a facelift will depend on the specifics of the procedure being performed. Facelift patients have the option of either local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia (being “put under”), with the latter being the significantly more common choice.

During the consultation, board-certified Troy, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali will discuss all options regarding anesthesia. At AMAE Plastic Surgery, Dr. Ali’s surgical team employs an expert, board certified anesthesiologist, whose skills are put to use on a regular basis throughout every week.

How long does the facelift surgery last?

The time it takes to perform a facelift fluctuates from patient to patient, based on which exact procedure will best meet the patient’s desired outcome. On average, however, it takes 3 to 4 hours to perform facelift surgery.

The mid-facelift, a relatively simple procedure performed on the cheek/temple area, can generally be performed in roughly 2 hours. Conversely, a traditional facelift, as well as a neck lift or eye lift, can take up to 5 or 6 hours.

How much time off should I arrange for my facelift?

Facelift patients who work at a desk or other sedentary jobs generally only need to recover for about two weeks before being presentable to return to work.

For some facelift patients, some swelling and bruising may still be visible after two weeks have passed. Generally, this won’t be noticeable to others, but any facelift patients concerned about such side effects should be completely in the clear after just one additional week.

More healing time may be required of facelift patients who work in a more physically strenuous field. Consult with Dr. Ali about how much downtime he recommends based on your employment.

How long will it take to fully recover from a facelift?

The rate at which it takes to heal from a facelift will be different for every patient. For the most part, younger patients will heal faster from their facelift than patients who are more mature. Regardless of age, most patients can expect to be able to resume to work and other normal activities after 2 weeks.

The entire facelift healing process can be broken down into a series of stages:

The first stage of facelift recovery will last roughly 10 days. This stage will see swelling continue to increase until the fourth day or so, then will begin to subside.

Between the 10th and 14th day after a facelift, the decrease in swelling and bruising is typically sufficient for the patient to feel comfortable returning to work and engaging in social activities.

The next stage of facelift recovery process will see the healing process continue until achieving final results. While this stage can last between 3 weeks and 6 months, 90% can see final results after 3 months.

For at least 4-6 weeks after surgery, patients should avoid engaging in strenuous activity such as intense physical exercise. Additionally, for the first several months of recovery, facelift patients should significantly limit their exposure to the sun.

Will I need someone to take me home or take care of me after a facelift?

It is Dr. Ali’s recommendation that in addition to being driven home from their procedure by someone else, facelift patients should have a friend or family member stay with the patient for at least the first several days after facelift surgery.

Patients who visit the Troy, MI area’s AMAE Plastic Surgery from out of town, as well as patients who prefer to recover from their facelift in a more luxurious environment, Dr. Ali can recommend a surgical aftercare facility, such as Pearl Recovery Retreat, staffed by skilled nurses trained to provide the utmost in surgical recovery care.

What technique is used for a facelift?

While board-certified Troy, MI plastic surgeon customizes each facelift surgery he performs to the unique goals and skin condition of the patient, the following outlines the “basics” used in many of the facelifts performed at AMAE Plastic Surgery:

The “classic facelift” is performed to treat skin that is loose or has begun to sag on the lower third of the face and neck. During a traditional facelift, Dr. Ali will make an incision behind and slightly in front of the ears. Then, the skin of the face will be lifted from the muscle and underlying tissue of the face. The skin will then be tightened, with excess skin being removed before closing the incision. After applying a bandage to the face, the facelift surgery is complete.

During the consultation, Dr. Ali explains to each patient the different type of lifts available, and makes a recommendation on which facelift procedure will best meet their needs and goals.

A mid facelift, on the other hand, is performed to simply treat the cheek and temple area of the face’s middle third. Similar to a facelift, a neck lift is performed to treat sagging skin in the neck-jawline area, separate from the skin of the upper face.

Will I have scars after my Facelift?

Any type of surgery that involves incisions necessarily results in some scarring. However, a skilled and experienced board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali is a master at strategically placing incisions to conceal them.

People with longer hair can usually take advantage of it as a means of concealing their facelift surgery scars. Patients with shorter hair who wish to hide their scars may with to consider letting avoiding the salon or barber shop until they have healed completely.

How long will a Facelift last?

While age, gravity, and environmental factors will always continue to affect a person’s skin, a facelift is designed to last roughly ten years, putting the patient a decade behind the aging process.

Some patients do choose to undergo an additional facelift procedure once they start to see the results fade, but most patients feel that their initial procedure reversed the sands of time a satisfactory amount for one lifetime.
