Meghan Markle’s Nose Most Popular Rhinoplasty Surgery

Meghan Markle’s Nose Most Popular Rhinoplasty Surgery –

Following Meghan Markle’s marriage into the British Royal Family, the former Suits star and current Duchess of Sussex has catapulted to the forefront of cultural discourse. Now, as one of the leading beauty icons of the 21st century, plastic surgery patients in the UK, the US and even Macomb County, have begun trying to copy Meghan Markle with rhinoplasty procedures.

Why Women Want Meghan Markle Rhinoplasty

Over the course of the last year, leaders in the field of cosmetic surgery have noted an influx of rhinoplasty patients requesting Meghan Markle’s nose. It is believed that Meghan Markle’s nose is such a popular choice for rhinoplasty patients because it isn’t perfect per say, but instead conveys the look of natural beauty many rhinoplasty surgery patients desire. With a defined tip of the nose and a straight nasal profile, Meghan Markle’s nose also has a slight dorsal hump that -when viewed directly from the front- is almost undetectable. But subtle, and moreover, very human traits are precisely what many Macomb County plastic surgery patients are looking for when planning their rhinoplasty procedure.

Research has shown that Meghan Markle’s popularity among plastic surgery patients has surpassed both Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner – both of whom once held the title of most-requested celebrity-inspired plastic surgery procedures. Experts believe that following her engagement -and subsequent marriage- to Prince Harry, plastic surgery patients see Meghan Markle as a more serious source of inspiration. Perhaps women are now desiring to emulate a member of the actual Royal Family, rather than just the Royal Family of Reality Television.

Meghan Replaces Kylie as Top Rhinoplasty Request

And much as the Kardashian/Jenner family has impacted the practices of plastic surgeons, the British Royal Family has something of a track record influencing the world of plastic surgery themselves. After the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, plastic surgery patients who may once have requested the infamous Kim Kardashian “Butt Lift” began asking for a subtler, more athletic posterior akin to Duchess of Cambridge Pippa Middleton. As such, it makes perfect sense that, in the wake of the most recent royal wedding, Meghan Markle’s classic, natural beauty has become one of the leading sources of inspiration for Macomb County Rhinoplasty Patients.

But it’s not just her regal in-laws that make Megan Markle’s features the most-requested among plastic surgery patients. After all, it was the strong and approachable nature of her face that was able to catch the attention of a Prince in the first place. Her timelessly-beautiful, girl-next-door quality stands in contrast to other contemporary beauty icons -such as the Kardashians- whose obviously-surgically-modified appearances don’t appeal to patients desiring a more natural look.  Well on her way to becoming the next “People’s Princess”, Meghan Markle’s status as one of the 21st Century’s leading beauty icons is undisputed, giving way to an entire generation of plastic surgery patients looking to emulate her natural, relatable, approachable features with rhinoplasty

The Best Looking Rhinoplasty for YOU

While Meghan Markle’s nose is one of the most common requests of Rhinoplasty patients, it is important to remember that the perfect nose for one person’s face might not be ideally suited for the facial shape and structure of another. And while advancements in the field of rhinoplasty can offer a (sometimes dramatic) transformation to the nose, the nose’s underlying structure can only be changed so much.

Most importantly rhinoplasty – or any plastic surgery – should enhance a person’s own natural beauty. The best rhinoplasty results are achieved when the patient becomes a more attractive version of themselves…not a version of somebody else.

Tummy Tucks Part 1: What You Need to Know

Tummy Tucks from Start to Finish
Part 1: What You Need to Know About Tummy Tucks

A tummy tuck – medically called abdominoplasty – is a common and safe surgery performed by a board certified plastic surgeon to flatten, tighten and tone the abdominal area.

Board certified Macomb County plastic surgeon Dr. Ali has given hundreds of women and men the flat firm abs they desire with tummy tuck surgery. In this 4 part series Dr. Ali explains tummy tuck surgery from start to finish – and breaks down everything you’ve ever wanted to know about a tummy tuck, including whether a noninvasive body sculpting can give you the same results.

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

A “tummy tuck” tightens and reshapes the abdominal muscles and removes excess skin, giving your abdominal area a more pleasing, slimmer overall appearance. As a bonus, a tummy tuck can also take care of excess fat. However, the primary focus for the procedure focuses on the skin and the muscle.

During a tummy tuck, the abdominal muscles are tightened, and excess sagging skin is removed. This leaves you with a flatter and better toned midsection, and corrects a protruding belly.

The skin is rather like elastic. Once it becomes too loose, it doesn’t spring back like it used to, leaving you with loose, sagging skin. No matter how much you exercise, and no matter how much weight you lose, that loose skin will not become taut again.

And then there’s the muscles. Normally, there is a little separation of perhaps a half inch or so between both sides of your “six pack” (technically known as the rectus muscle). As you age, due to certain lifestyle factors (pregnancy, lack of exercise, or weight gain/loss), the separation grows larger, and it loses its ability to “hold you in.” Unfortunately, once these muscles have spread apart, surgery is the only way to tighten them. A tummy tuck acts like an internal corset, and brings the muscle edges together, allowing them to pull your belly in.

Candidates for a Tummy Tuck

The decision to have any cosmetic procedure is very personal, and there are many reasons people decide to have tummy tucks. Some have had success losing weight with diet and exercise, but their abdomens still lack tone and protrude. Others wish to get rid of the excess skin that hangs around their belly after weight loss. Many women experience stretched out abdominal muscles and skin following pregnancy. And some people have bellies that “stick out” even though they are otherwise in good shape. A tummy tuck can help in any of these situations, resulting in a firmer, flatter abdomen.

Not everyone is an ideal tummy tuck candidate, however. The best candidates are in good health, at or near their ideal body weight, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about what the tummy tuck can, and can’t do.

Tummy Tucks Part 2: Is a Tummy Tuck Right for Me?

Tummy Tucks from Start to Finish
Part 2: Is a Tummy Tuck Right for Me?

In this 4 part series Dr. Ali explains tummy tuck surgery from start to finish – and breaks down everything you’ve ever wanted to know about a tummy tuck, including whether a noninvasive body sculpting can give you the same results.

Tummy tucks are popular for both men and women, especially those whose bodies have undergone significant changes from weight loss or, in the case of women, pregnancy. However, tummy tucks are not for everyone.

Remember, tummy tucks have nothing to do with fat. The primary focus is on muscle repair and skin removal. If excess fat is the major focus as opposed to muscle separation or loose skin, or for those who plan on having children, there may be other, better options. In fact, about half of the women who think a tummy tuck is the answer to a flatter belly end up having liposuction instead. In males, the percentage is even higher.

Reasons to Put Off Having a Tummy Tuck

If you are still planning on having children or if you want to lose a significant amount of weight, you may want to put off making a decision to have a tummy tuck. Either of these factors can negatively affect the end result. If you think you may want more children, or if you are still working on reaching your desired weight, it’s best to hold off on a tummy tuck until these milestones are reached.

Some Alternatives to a Tummy Tuck

If excess fat is your main concern, liposuction may be something to consider. Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes the fat that you can’t seem to get rid of through diet or exercise. People who have liposuction generally have a stable body weight, but would like to remove undesirable body fat in specific parts of the body. However, it does not remove cellulite or stretch marks, nor does it address muscle separation or loose skin.

How Tummy Tuck Compares to Non-Invasive Body-Sculpting

Tummy tucks are considerably more involved in terms of the surgery itself, and of course, the recovery. Noninvasive body-contouring procedures such as CoolSculpting and SculpSure are surface level procedures, and therefore can’t come close to achieving the results of a tummy tuck. The way these procedures work is by either freezing or heating fat cells to kill them off, but like liposuction, they don’t address the sagging skin or underlying muscle separation the tummy tuck targets.

If your major concern is excess fat, these noninvasive options can usually reduce superficial fat by an average of 25 percent. So, if you still have tight elastic skin and toned muscles that aren’t stretched, you may find the non-invasive options to be reasonable.

Skilled Tummy Tuck Surgeons

Identifying which procedure is right for you is a complicated question. Dr. Ali can help you explore the various options available, and will work with you to ensure that your goals are met in the best possible way.

A tummy tuck can be a life-changing procedure, helping you regain the slimmer, more youthful silhouette that you long for. There are a lot of things to consider, however. No two patients are identical in terms of the result they hope for. Dr. Ali, a board certified plastic surgeon in Macomb County, will consult with you to determine your goals, and help you decide which procedure will most likely give you what you want. There are several options available.

Tummy Tuck Part 3: Types of Surgeries

Tummy Tucks from Start to Finish
Part 3: The Tummy Tuck Surgery –

In this 4 part series Dr. Ali explains tummy tuck surgery from start to finish – and breaks down everything you’ve ever wanted to know about a tummy tuck, including whether a noninvasive body sculpting can give you the same results.

Preparing for your Tummy Tuck

If you are considering a tummy tuck, the first step is to schedule an appointment. Dr. Ali is a board certified plastic surgeon in Macomb County, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, with extensive experience performing cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries. When you meet with Dr. Ali, you should be prepared to discuss why you want a tummy tuck, and what you hope the results will be.

Dr. Ali will review your medical history, including any current or past medical conditions, what medications you are taking, past surgeries, and allergies to medications. He will also ask you detailed questions about your history of weight gain and loss. He will then examine your abdomen, to determine your treatment options.

You will also be informed about potential risks, including the potential for scarring. Dr. Ali will tell you to avoid certain medications (such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and some herbal supplements, which can increase bleeding), and if you are a smoker, you will need to stop at least several weeks prior to the surgery date.

Ideally, you will have maintained a stable weight for the year prior to getting your surgery. If you are currently overweight, Dr. Ali may recommend that you lose weight before scheduling the procedure. If you lose a significant amount of weight after the surgery is completed, it can lessen the desired results.

Once your tummy tuck is scheduled, you should arrange for help after the surgery and during your recovery. You will need someone to drive you home after you leave the hospital, and ideally, to stay with you at least the first night of your recovery at home.

Types of Tummy Tuck Surgery

There are generally three types of tummy tuck surgeries, depending whether loose skin, loose muscles, or both with need to be surgically tightened.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A “mini” tummy tuck improves the lower belly with less extensive surgery. A candidate for a mini may be bothered by a “pooch” or loose skin and stretch marks below the belly button. This technique involves a single incision made just about the pubic mound, through which the loose muscles are tightened. Excess skin will be removed to restore a flat, smooth abdominal wall. The resulting scar will be a thin, horizontal line, just a few inches long.

Classic or Full Tummy Tuck

A classic or “full” tummy tuck improves both the upper and lower abdomen. If you are concerned about roundness and/or excess skin folds above and below your belly button, the full tummy tuck may be for you. Here, either a horizontal or U-shaped incision is made above the pubic mound.  Excess skin is then removed, and abdominal muscles are tightened. In some cases, a second incision is made around the navel to remove excess skin above the belly button. The scar will typically be a bit longer, running from hip bone to hip bone, but it can generally be hidden beneath a swimsuit bottom. A full tummy tuck will yield a flatter and smoother abdomen than the mini.

Extended Tummy Tuck

An extended tummy tuck is the most comprehensive procedure. If you have lost a lot of weight or have experienced a number of pregnancies and now have excess sagging skin hanging around the front half of your body, the extended tummy tuck may be something to consider. In addition to tightening the abdominal muscles and removing excess skin from the upper and lower abdomen, it also addresses excess skin around the flanks.

Tummy Tucks Part 4:  During & After

Tummy Tuck from Start to Finish
Part 4: During & After the Tummy Tuck

In this 4 part series Dr. Ali explains tummy tuck surgery from start to finish – and breaks down everything you’ve ever wanted to know about a tummy tuck, including whether a noninvasive body sculpting can give you the same results.

What You Can Expect During the Tummy Tuck Procedure

Tummy tucks are done in a hospital or an outpatient surgical facility. You will be under a general anesthesia, which means you will be completely unconscious and unable to feel any pain.

During the procedure itself, Dr. Ali will make incisions to remove excess skin between your belly button and pubic hair. Depending on the extent of your surgery, Dr. Ali might also address any excess fat, removing it the same way it would be removed during traditional liposuction.

The fascia, which overlies the abdominal muscles, will be tightened with permanent sutures. Finally, the incision will be stitched together.

The procedure typically takes about three hours from start to finish, but of course that depends upon what type of tummy tuck you choose to have.

Before finishing the procedure, Dr. Ali will probably place drains in your stomach to remove any extra fluid that may build up as you heal, allowing the newly stretched skin to stick to the muscle. (The drains will be removed after about a week.)

What Happens to the Belly Button in a Tummy Tuck

In a full tummy tuck, the skin above the belly button will be pulled down so that it will cover both the upper and lower abdomen. Some patients are surprised to notice that an existing birthmark or mole that was located above their belly button before the operation has moved to below the belly button after the surgery. Your belly button, however, will be brought out through a small incision and sutured in its normal position.

After a Tummy Tuck

After spending time in recovery, you will be released to go home, and your recovery process will begin. Before you leave, Dr. Ali will likely cover your abdominal incision and your bellybutton with surgical dressings. Small tubes may be placed along the incision to drain any excess fluid or blood. You will need to have a driver take you home, and it is a good idea to have arranged for someone to be with you for at least the first night after the surgery.

The length of your recovery will depend upon the type of tummy tuck performed, as well as how much skin was removed. The recovery period is usually much shorter for a mini-tummy tuck.

Drains may be left in place at the surgery site for a few days after the surgery. Typically, DR. Ali will also prescribe antibiotics and an anticoagulants while the drains are in place. You will also be given a prescription for pain management – although some patients only require over-the-counter pain relievers.

Recovery from a Tummy Tuck

Once you get home, the recuperation process begins. Most patients find that positioning their bed to keep the upper body slightly elevated and knees at an angle for the first few days after surgery is helpful in terms of comfort level.

It could take a few days to a week before you feel completely comfortable standing fully erect. Patients often walk slightly bent over due to the tightness of their abdomens.

Light walking right after the surgery is advised, and in fact, it’s good for you. However, you should avoid hitting the gym for at least two weeks, and consult with Dr. Ali before you try anything strenuous. Generally, tummy tuck patients take at least two weeks off of work, and maybe more, depending on what the job entails. After about five weeks, most patients are usually able to completely resume their normal activities. Of course, everyone is different.

Patients typically wear an abdominal binder for about six weeks, to avoid fluid buildup and help support the abdomen. Patients need to avoid strenuous activity, including exercise and lifting for at least six weeks.

6 Steps to Maintaining Beautiful Breast Implants

6 Steps to Maintaining Beautiful Breast Implants

If you’ve recently gotten beautiful full, shapely breasts through breast implant surgery, there are some important steps you can take to ensure your breast implants bring you years of enjoyment without complications.

In this article, Troy, MI area board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali shares 6 tips for keeping your breasts looking their best long after your breast augmentation surgery.

Take Time to Recover after Getting Breast Implants

Thanks to modern advancements in surgical techniques, many women only require a few days off from work or other activities after implant surgery. But while the recovery period is much shorter than it once was, your breasts still need time to heal on the inside and the outside.

Taking care of your implants by following your surgeons post-op instructions is essential to allowing your breast to heal properly and “drop” into place without complications such as infection, rotation and other problems.

Ease Back into Exercise after Getting Breast Implants

Even if you feel great – take things slowly as you return to exercise and other strenuous activities. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for at least a month post-surgery. While you can resume mild exercise about a week after surgery (follow your doctor’s instruction) you’ll want to take things very slowly.

Start simply and work up – walking before running; and replacing high impact activities with low impact exercises.  Avoid heavy lifting, including weights or weight machines, until your doctor specifically tells you it is “safe” and you are not in danger of tearing stitches.

Wear Proper Breast Support after Getting Breast Implants

Gravity still affects breast implants – though not to the same extent as it affects natural breast tissue. So if you have got implants, you need a great, supportive bra.

Remember, while the implants themselves will always keep their shape, your skin, muscles and tissue must support the weight of the breast implants. So you need to limit the impact that gravity has on your body to prevent premature sagging of your breasts – especially when exercising or running!

Most breast implant surgeons recommend that you wear a bra as often much as you can – even when sleeping at night, to protect the breasts from excessive bouncing and movement.

Moisturize after Getting Breast Implants

As we just discussed, your skin still needs to support those beautiful new implants! Regularly applying skin lotion to your breasts will moisturizing and nourish the skin – so it retains its tone and elasticity.

Choose a high quality moisturizer, such as one with natural skin nourishing elements such as botanicals, and use it every day.  Avoiding sun, as well as wearing ample high SPF sunscreen can also keep your skin young and health, so it continues to Keep Your Weigh Steady after Getting Breast Implants

We know maintaining a stable weight over the years is more easily said than done. And those extra pounds can creep on in spite of trying to maintain healthy eating habits and regular exercise.

But substantial changes in your weight can cause the skin and breast tissue to sag. Even pregnancy weight gain can take their toll on breast implants. Too much weight gain or loss can result in the need for a breast lift to restore the implants to their original “perky” position. support your new, bigger breasts.

Get Mammograms after Getting Breast Implants

Getting regular mammograms is still important after getting breast implants. Mammograms are necessary for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer in every women, including those with breast implants.

Always let the imaging center know you have implants when you schedule your mammogram appointment. S facilities even have technicians who are specially trained in mammograms for breast implant patients.

Protecting Your Breast Implants After Reconstruction

Protecting Your Breast Implants After Reconstruction

If you have survived breast cancer and a mastectomy, and have undergone breast reconstruction surgery, you have already been through so much! You are a warrior! So, of course, you want to do everything possible to protect your new breasts – and ensure that you do not have to undergo any further breast revision surgery.

In December, a new clinical study published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons reported that two huge risk factors –  smoking and obesity – can dramatically increase the odds of early implant loss after breast reconstruction with implants following a mastectomy.

The study was conducted at the Perelman School of Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. The stated goal of the study was figure out which patients are at greatest risk for complications within the first 30 days after breast reconstruction.

In order to determine which risk factors were associated with 30-day breast implant loss for any reason data from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program was analyzed. The study included more than 14,500 women between the ages of 40 and 60 who had undergone immediate breast reconstruction with implants after a mastectomy.

The results of the study were starling:

Smoking was shown to increase woman’s risk of early implant loss by three times!

And obesity as shown to increase woman’s risk of early implant loss by three times! Additionally, the more severe the state of obesity, the higher the patient’s risk of losing the implant was.

Other Risk Factors for Breast Implant Loss

Other lesser factors that were associated with a greater chance of complications included age, with women over age 55 being at slightly greater risk for implant failure. Additionally, direct-to-implant reconstruction – undergoing mastectomy and implants in a single procedure –  also increased the risk of implant failure within the first 30 days after breast reconstruction surgery.

Less than one percent of all patients in this study of 14,583 women (so about 14) experienced complication involving implant loss in 30 days or less.  Patients in to lower risk groups only had a, failure rate of .39% . But patients in the high risk group – due to smoking or obesity – had a failure rate of  3.86%.

This is actually quite a substantial difference – because it means that one in 25 patients in the high-risk group will lose a breast implant within the first 30 days.

The takeaway from this is that while smoking and obesity have a variety of negative health consequences, their impact on breast reconstruction surgery can be dire. We understand that losing weight or quitting smoking is a difficult uphill battle. But in order to ensure that your reconstruction surgery is a success, we urge you to find the support that you need so that you can give up cigarettes or lose some of the extra weight.
