New Product Spotlight: Rejuvapen Skin Therapy System

Dr. Ali’s office is thrilled to have recently augmented our skin therapy offerings with the Rejuvapen Skin Therapy system.  This state of the art procedure leverages the body’s natural healing mechanism to improve the overall appearance of your skin.

Unlike many other procedures, this comprehensive treatment is able to manage everything from pore size to fine lines and wrinkles. Acne scars? Covers that too! Looking for a lift? Rejuvapen works!

The nine micro-needles create invisible perforations in the top layer of the skin – this process triggers the skin to produce collagen and elastin to repair the invisible breaks. Not only does this natural process renew your skin from the inside out, but it’s affordable.

Unlike many other skincare solutions which just mask the problem, Rejuvapen fixes your skin at the cellular level. The regeneration process is natural and will result in increased elasticity, reduced fine lines and wrinkles and stimulated circulation, which leaves your skin looking and feeling better than before!

Liquid Facelifts – A Possible Alternative to Surgery!

A Liquid Facelift can give you a more youthful look without committing to surgery. The patients that usually opt for a Liquid Facelift are the ones who want to restore their vibrant appearance without having a facelift or brow lift. A Liquid Facelift is a procedure that literally “plumps up” a facial area in order to minimize lines and wrinkles. It has become a mainstay facial rejuvenator. The liquid facelift is a nonsurgical way to take years off your appearance by strategically placing a variety of freezers and fillers that can help to turn back the clock.

To restore volume or to provide definition, your plastic surgeon can inject fillers along the cheekbone. Botox may be used to freeze the muscles, most notably between the eyebrows, which relaxes deep lines. While there are a variety of injectables available, different ones produce varying effects. Not all of them last the same length of time.

A Liquid Facelift treats many areas of concern, the most common include:

  • Reduce lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases
  • Subtly lift drooping facial features like the brows and jowls
  • Improve under-eye bags and dark circles under the eyes
  • Lift drooping corners of the mouth
  • Hide bumps on the nose
  • Create a fuller appearance in sunken areas
  • Add volume to flattened cheeks or temples
  • Create fuller lips
  • Minimize creases between the eyebrows

How long does a Liquid Facelift last?

The effects of a Liquid facelift can last for 1-2 years for a full correction. Depending on the areas treated and the products used, a Liquid facelift can have beautiful, non-evasive and natural looking results.

What products are used in a Liquid Facelift?

A variety of different facial fillers and freezers may be used to contour your face. Including:

It’s important to seek advice from a professional before undergoing any kind of cosmetic procedure. A good plastic surgeon will be able to offer advice and information in order to help you make an informed decision that is right for you. An experienced physician will generally have a better understanding of the advanced injection techniques and product combinations that will extend your results. Extensive experience also contributes to a physician’s treatment recommendation, which includes subtle product placement, injection locations and techniques and product selection.

What a Tummy Tuck Will Not Do

One of the most common misconceptions about plastic surgery is that it is a quick fix. The reality is that most cosmetic procedures are not a quick fix — they are carefully calculated choices to enhance or repair areas of the body that may not be responding to other means of improvement. We sometimes see the “quick fix” misconception with individuals who pursue a tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty. It is important to us at Dr. Ali’s office that our patients and the general public are educated about surgery, and what it does and does not do for you.

So what does a tummy tuck NOT do?

  • It is NOT a way to lose weight. Will you drop some pounds? Of course — you are removing fat and skin.
  • It is NOT a long term solution for body image issues. Will it make you more confident about your appearance? Most likely — will it fix body image issues you may have? Possibly not. Seeking help for conditions around body dysmorphia require a multi-faceted approach.
  • It is NOT a replacement for living a healthy, active lifestyle that is. Will it immediately tighten your tummy? Yes. Will it help slow the aging process, improve your overall quality of life and keep you healthy? No – only a healthy, active lifestyle can do that!

This is not to say that a tummy tuck isn’t a fantastic procedure. It truly is — tummy tucks can help individuals who have lost significant weight feel comfortable in their skin by removing the excess around the abdomen. It is ideal for mothers who have lost abdominal strength due to their pregnancies as it helps tighten muscles that were compromised.

Considering a tummy tuck? Let us help you evaluate the options to see if it’s the right fit. Contact Dr. Ali today for a consultation!

Best decision I ever made!

PATIENT TESTIMONIAL: ARM LIFT

After losing almost 130 pounds, my arms were very saggy and batwing like. I could not have exercised enough to take care of this, and buying smaller clothes was still difficult having to account for the extra bulk of my arm skin. So, I went to see Dr. Ali! Best decision I ever made!

The pain is short lived compared to the results. There were times during the healing process that I thought maybe I made a mistake because of the pain. But once the swelling goes down and the incision sites start to fade, and I could see the results, I have been extremely happy that I made the decision to have it done! Love wearing sleeveless tops now!

How to Choose a Plastic Surgeon

Deciding that you want to pursue cosmetic surgery is usually a decision that is not made lightly or in haste, and neither should choosing the person to perform that surgery! Once you have made the choice to move forward with a procedure, you need to start researching doctors who are capable of performing for you. This process may seem daunting and intimidating. As highly tenured staff of the plastic surgery industry, we wanted to share with you a few helpful tips for electing your surgeon.

Things to Look For:

Board Certified – make sure the surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. By law, anyone who is a doctor (i.e. a psychiatrist) can perform plastic surgery. Do not just go by the information on their website – do your research through the board to ensure it is accurate. A board certified surgeon will have undergone both academic testing as well as three to five years of general surgery training and a minimum of two years of plastic surgery training. It also ensures that they are completing continuing education courses and keeping their skills and knowledge relevant.

Malpractice Records – of course this is not something that they would advertise. Do your research – make sure there are no current or previous lawsuits brought against your surgeon. Reaching out to your state medical board can help you obtain this information.

Hospital Privileges – although some plastic surgeries may be outpatient procedures, many surgeons—particularly reputable ones—will partner with hospitals. Hospital privileges ensure that a full background check has been completed.

Healthgrades ratings & Vitals reviews – these services are a great way to find out how the doctor fares from both a patient and industry grading perspective. They also provide you with details about your surgeon’s background, schooling and certifications.

Things to Avoid:

Deals – think about it this way: qualified surgeons spend years of their life becoming eligible to perform surgery. Why would they then go and discount your procedures by 30-50%? Any surgeon offering something that seems “too good to be true” is likely offering just that. Be wary of deals – anything from free lipo with a breast augmentation to 50% off if you pay up front. This isn’t to say that the more expensive the better, but there are other ways to market than to undercut price.

Multiple Procedures – having multiple procedures increases risk, particularly when done in one setting. If you find yourself going in for a face lift consult and walking out with a recommendation of a face lift, breast augmentation and tummy tuck consider the surgeon’s true motivation.

Dr. Ali offers qualified consultations to patients – if you are unsure if cosmetic surgery is right for you or if you are interested in a procedure contact us today!

What is a Lightening Lift for Skin?

A lightening lift is a form of Lactic/Kolic Acid Resurfacing. This resurfacing solution is a pigmentation resurfacing peel that works to lighten, brighten and tighten your skin! The peel is intended for people who suffer from pigmentation, aging skin and/or dehydrated skin.

So what exactly is it?

Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy exfoliator and is derived from sour milk. We know – yuck right? Don’t worry; it’s just all the good parts that help your skin to be ultra-moisturized and hydrated! (Rumor has it this was a key element of Cleopatra’s beauty regimen)

Kojic Acid is a skin lightener that is a fine white powdery substance composed of small crystals. When applied to the skin in concentrated form, the components of the kojic acid interact with the melanocytes which interfere with melanin production. Melanin causes your skin to tan – reducing the production of melanin results in a lightening effect by changing the pigmentation of the skin.

In addition to lightening, Kojic Acid is also classified as an antioxidant and can help reduce the effects of free radicals on the skin, giving it wonderful anti-aging properties. Did we mention that it gets even better?! This wonder acid is also anti-bacterial, making it perfect for people who suffer from chronic acne.

The combination of these two ingredients makes for a skin treatment that is cleansing, that resurfaces skin, all while keeping it hydrated and saturated with anti-oxidants. From evening out your skin to treating acne spots and scars to kick-starting your anti-aging regimen this treatment does it all!

We offer two levels – Level 1 is the basic Lactic/Kojic Acid peel – this peel is the basic version that will help with hyper pigmentation, acne and skin discoloration. If you are looking to upgrade and add some additional anti-aging properties like retinol and vitamin-C we recommend our Level 2 peel.

What is the Recovery Time for Gynecomastia Surgery?

The total recovery time for gynecomastia surgery is 4-6 weeks depending on how your body is healing. The first three days require total rest and recovery. In order to ensure that you do not disrupt the healing process you need to rest completely for 72 hours, and immediately after the surgery you may experience some pain, tightness and tenderness in the area. This is generally managed with pain medication and should taper off within a week. 7-10 days from the procedure is when you will have your stitches removed and a follow up visit with your surgeon.

While swelling will occur, there are ways to manage it and help reduce it more efficiently. Hydration is key – especially in the days immediately following surgery. Additionally, rest and a lower-sodium diet will help. Compression garments will be worn for 1-2 weeks and are one of the most critical elements of the post-op process. They will not only help to reduce swelling but also help the skin adjust to its new contours.

Under the assumption that there are no complications, the general recommendations are as follows. After 3 days, you will be able to slowly begin to return to normal activities but should refrain from any type of exercise and heavy lifting for at least 14 days.

Once you have hit that threshold you can begin light exercise – walking or light jogging is permissible. 3-4 weeks after you can begin more intensive exercise with the exception of chest and shoulder movements that target the pectoral muscles. After 5-6 weeks you may return to normal lifting and exercise regimens that include the pectoral muscles. Please note, these are just general guidelines and Dr. Ali will prescribe a specific post-op plan.

Breast Reduction – Could It Change Your Life?

Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, is a safe and effective option for women with large, heavy breasts. Women with large breasts may not only be dissatisfied with their body image, but also experience physical pain and discomfort, including back or shoulder pain. In addition, women may also suffer from skin irritation, bra strap indentations, concerns with posture, headaches, and even physical limitations with activities and exercise.

The best candidates for this surgery include:

  • Women whose breasts are fully developed and breasts are enlarged (generally, a size D or larger)
  • Healthy women who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing
  • Non-smokers (smoking may delay healing and increase the risk of complications).

A consultation with a cosmetic surgeon at Amae Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Center is the first step to learn if you are a candidate for the procedure. Dr. Ali can explain how a reduction mammoplasty can improve the appearance of your breasts and relieve pain, discomfort and any associated symptoms you may have resulting from large, misshapen breasts.

How do I prepare for breast reduction?

Preparation for your breast reduction surgery includes:

  • Evaluation of your general health and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors
  • Examination of your breasts, photographs, and possible detailed measurements of their size and shape, skin quality, placement of your nipples and areolas
  • Discussing your options, recommending a course of treatment, including any risks or complications
  • Discussing the use of anesthesia during your procedure

The success and safety of your breast reduction procedure depends on you being completely open and honest during your consultation. Being able to discuss why you want the surgery, your expectations and desired outcomes, along with a thorough medical evaluation will help lead to the best end result.

Happy with how my jeans fit!

PATIENT TESTIMONIAL: THIGH LIPOSUCTION

I had numerous consultations before I chose Dr. Ali. I set a consultation with him based on all the wonderful reviews he had online. For the consultation, he took his time going over all my areas of concerns and understanding exactly what I wanted done. He took careful measurements and explained to me how the procedure would go, what to expect, etc. He answered all of my questions and concerns fully and I felt very comfortable the entire time.

I decided to get lipo on my thighs after having my first child. After the baby, I had been running a couple miles every day and continuing my healthy diet. Although I gained less than 5 lbs from the pregnancy, I was frustrated with fat I could not get rid of on my legs and with the changes from the pregnancy, it was enough to have me check into liposuction. Currently, it has been almost 2 months since my lipo procedure. My thighs have slimed down and keep a very even shape. The small incisions healed very quickly. I am already happy with how my jeans fit. I am now able to resume my running again and I am excited to see the full results in 4 months 🙂

I plan on going back to Dr. Ali in the future for breast lift/augmentation.

The Ins and Outs of Injectables

The health and beauty industry is always bursting at the seams with new products, and it can be hard for consumers to keep them straight. What’s the difference between Botox and Juvederm? If I want to make my lips full, what’s the best product? These questions and many more are ones that we receive at our office on a daily basis. We thought it would be a perfect opportunity to offer a quick FAQ on some of the injectable products we offer and what they do!

Botox: Botox is a purified protein that blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscle. This effectively “paralyzes” the muscle, smoothing out the wrinkles. The result is a refreshed appearance that can take years off of your face. This is a great option for someone who is unsure about a permanent facial surgery, as it lasts roughly four months and results in only slight discomfort.

Juvederm: Juvederm uses hyaluronic acid (HLA) to correct facial wrinkles and folds. While that may sound scary, HLA is found in the body. This dermal filler improves the look and feel of your face as the HLA retains water underneath the skin’s surface, providing volume in the face. There is little to no recovery time and the results typically last for 9-12 months.

Radiesse: Radiesse is a calcium-based wrinkle filler that is injected into the skin and works with your body to stimulate your own natural collagen production. This process means that you will continue to see improved results in the months following your treatment. Like Botox and Juvederm, the side effects are minor, and there is virtually no down-time. Results can last up to a year or more.
