How Much Do Breast Implants Cost?
The decision to have breast implant surgery is a very important and highly personal choice – so it’s important to take into consideration the cost and the quality of both the breast implants and the surgeon performing the procedure. In most cases, a patient will get what they pay for – so it’s essential to “do your homework” and not just choose the surgeon or the breast implants based solely on price.
In this article, Macomb County plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains the many factors that affect breast implant prices.
Breast Implant Materials & Cost
There are pros and cons of both saline and silicone filled breast implants. Saline breast implants are considerably less expensive than silicone breast implants. However, saline breast implants are a less popular choice because they do not feel as natural to the touch, nor are they typically as natural looking as silicone breast implants.
There are actually five brands of silicone gel-filled breast implants that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), each with different qualities. And these attributes can influence the price, as well.

Breast augmentation is a complex surgical procedure. Choosing a qualified, board certified surgeon like Dr. Ali in Macomb County is essential to avoid complications, minimize the risk of infection, properly address pain management and prevent scarring post-surgery. In other words, there is much less risk and much greater patient satisfaction when choosing a reputable surgeon – rather than selecting the “cheapest” doctor you can find.
The look, feel, positioning and comfort of your breast implants will all be influenced by the quality of your breast implant surgeon. If the breast implant surgery is performed by a highly experienced, board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali who specializes in breast augmentation procedures, patients can expect exquisite result – even though the cost may be slightly higher for the surgeon’s expertise and quality of post-operative care.
By choosing a surgeon like Dr. Ali, patients can avoid surgical breast implant issues such as imbalanced or uneven breasts, unnecessary scarring, and/or rippling or dimpling implants. Dr. Ali performs hundreds of breast implant procedures each year and is meticulous in his work to ensure each patient has healthy and natural-looking breasts they love.
Comparing Breast Implant Costs
When doing research online about the cost of breast implants, keep in mind that not everything on the internet is 100% accurate or complete.
For example, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (2017 statistics) quoted $3,718 as the average cost for implant surgery. Unfortunately, this statistics does NOT include the anesthesia, the cost of an operating room, and other critical services that a surgical procedure like breast augmentation require. So, it’s best to speak with a reputable breast implant surgeon like Dr. Ali to understand the total procedure cost.
Where a patient chooses to have breast implant surgery can also dictate the total price. For example, the cost of breast augmentation in Beverly Hills is much higher than the same surgery performed in southern states like Alabama. Dr. Ali’s Macomb County office in Michigan is priced competitively in the mid-range of national reporting costs, while still delivering the highest quality of breast implant surgery available.
Insurance Coverage for Breast Implants
Cosmetic surgery, including breast augmentation, is typically considered elective and generally not covered by health insurance. However, with the 1998 passing of the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act, all health insurance plans are required by law to cover breast reconstruction surgery – including breast implants – for patients who endured a mastectomy or lumpectomy due to cancer and other diseases.
Financing for Breast Implants
While it’s true that most healthcare plans don’t cover the cost of breast implant surgery, Dr. Ali’s Macomb County office can help patients find supplemental financing options to help cover the cost.

Breast Surgery Statistics Show Increase in All Procedures
/in Breast Augmentation, Breast Reconstruction, Breast Reduction /by adminBreast Surgery Statistics –
If you’re “on the fence” about considering breast surgery – including breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction – take a look at the most recent statistics! Data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) shows that thousands more people opt for breasts surgery year.
Of the nearly 1.8 million cosmetic surgeries performed in 2017, the number one surgery was breast augmentation – with more than 300,000 performed. This represents and increase of 3 percent over 2016.
According to the ASPS President David H. Song, MD, MBA, FACS, “… traditional facial procedures and breast augmentations are still among the most popular … patients have more options than ever, and working closely with their surgeon, they’re able to focus on specific target areas of the body to achieve the look they desire.”
Breast Lift Surgery Statistics
Since 2000, ASPS statistics show that Breast Lifts Surgery increased by 90 percent from the year 2000 to 2017. Statistics reveal that 52,836 breast lift surgeries were performed in the US in 2000, compared to 99,614 breast lifts in 2015! In fact, breast lift surgery showed the most overall growth of any plastic surgery during that time period.
Breast Augmentation Surgery Statistics
Of the almost 2 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2015 and 2016 and 2017, the number one was breast augmentation surgery every year. 279,143 breast augmentation surgeries were performed in the US in 2015, 291, 367 were performed in 2016; and 300,378 were performed in 2017 – for a full 34 percent increase from the year 2000.
Breast Reduction Surgery Statistics
There were 68,106 aesthetic breast reduction surgeries performed in the United States in 2015. And, for the first time, men accounted for more than 40 percent of these aesthetic breast reduction surgeries.
A total of 27,456 breast reduction surgeries were performed on men in 2015, representing a 35 percent growth since 2000.
Said the President of the ASPS, “As plastic surgery is becoming more common and accepted in men, we’re seeing more of them undergo procedures to tighten and tone problem areas, like the breasts.”
He added, “This procedure is often done in younger men who face genetic challenges with the size and shape of their breasts, and when appropriate, surgery can make a big difference in their lives.”
Breast Reconstruction Surgery Statistics
For the past several years the ASPS has spearheaded a national Breast Reconstruction Awareness Campaign to educate and empower women to make informed decisions following breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy. And, as more breast cancer patients become aware of breast reconstruction surgery options, the number of breast reconstruction surgeries continues to increase dramatically.
In 2015 breast reconstruction surgeries increased to more than 106,300, which represents a remarkable 35 percent since 2000.
“That’s encouraging, and we hope to continue to get the word out to all women who are facing breast cancer, so they will be well aware of all their reconstructive options from the outset of diagnosis,” said the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

5 Steps to Choosing Breast Implants (Part 1)
/in Breast Implant /by admin5 Steps to Choosing Your Breast Implants (Part 1) –
Getting breast implants is an incredibly personal choice, with many options to consider.
Macomb County breast surgeon Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of women chose the breast implants that will best complement their body type, fit their lifestyle and give them the body they’ve always dreamed of.
In this two part article, renowned Macomb County breast surgeon Dr. Ali discusses the 5 factors every women needs to consider when selecting the breast implants that are right for her.
(1.) Choosing Breast Implant Type
During the patient consult, Dr. Ali will offer guidance on whether saline or silicone breast implant material would best suit the patient’s lifestyle, desired appearance, and body type. Both have their advantages. For example, silicone implants are often recommended for slender patients who don’t have a lot of breast tissue of their own as the implants feel considerably more natural.
Saline implants require a smaller surgical incision and are typically less expensive.
Implant texture is also a consideration, based on the patient’s lifestyle. Smoother implants are softer to the touch, while textured implants are more stationary and firmer.
(2.) Choosing Breast Implant Size
Patients have many choices when it comes to the actual size of their breast augmentation, and often think of breast implants in terms of bra “cup size”. But surgical breast implant measurements are actually done more precisely by measuring cubic centimeters, or cc’s, which indicate the volume of silicone or saline used. Breast implant size can range from a modest 120cc to a whopping 850cc.
Each centimeter represents one milliliter of silicone or saline. Two ounces of liquid are about 60cc’s in volume. Sizing should take into consideration the patient’s lifestyle, their body type, current weight and overall breast appearance desires.
Remember, bigger breasts are not always better if they compromise the patient’s comfort when performing routine activities such as exercising, playing with their children, etc.
Each patient’s body is different based on their chest and breast measurements, body type, and even the available amount of existing chest tissue available to cover their desired implant size.
Dr. Ali will offer a consultation to help recommend the best implant size. As Macomb County’s top breast implant surgeon, Dr. Ali’s thorough assessment helps ensure that every patient is 100% pleased with the overall breast augmentation outcome.

(3.) Choosing Breast Implant Shape
Size is just one consideration when choosing breast implants. The breast implant shape plays an important part in the overall breast fullness and chest “profile”. Teardrop shaped breast implants follow a woman’s more natural breast shape, while round implants allow a much fuller look, especially in the upper chest area.
Patients who want a “bustier” look often choose round implants that provide a more pronounced fuller silhouette, especially in the upper chest area.
However, other women feel round implants look less natural – and choose teardrop shaped implants for a more contoured profile that more “anatomically” suits their frame. Teardrop implants are shaped to be fuller and feel slightly firmer at the bottom, just like a natural breast.
The highly cohesive silicon material in teardrop breast implants also maintains its shape longer and is less likely to rupture, compared to round implants.
(4.) Choosing Breast Implant Projection & Profile
Female body types and frames vary, so it’s important to understand how projection and profile of breast implants affect the body’s overall balance just as much as the size of the implants do. A woman’s frame and chest width will help determine if the implant “profile” – which is how far out the breast extends from the chest – should be low, moderate or high regarding.
High profile placement creates fullness in the upper chest, or “upper pole” region. This is quite noticeable in most women and might seem less natural to patients looking for more subtle enhancement.
For breast reconstruction patients, or women who have little remaining breast tissue due to age or breastfeeding, high profile implants may be the only solution. Women with narrow rib cages will also appear more proportionate with high pole placement, as it offers more volume but less width.
For a more natural look, low profile implants create fullness in the lower breast or “lower pole”. This offers a subtler augmentation for women who prefer a natural look – and may also offer a better solution for a woman built more broadly.
Many women believe large breast implants automatically create more cleavage, but if the patient has a naturally wide space between her breasts, implants won’t necessarily create that deep “v” some women desire.
Once Macomb County breast implant surgeon, Dr. Ali has consulted with the patient, he will be able to offer the best recommendation to achieve the most attractive look based on all of these factors.
(5.) Choosing Breast Implant Texture
Finally, the texture of breast implants is also a consideration, each with its own benefits. Textured breast implants are often chosen for their stability in the breast pocket – and less noticeable exterior scarring or “rippling”.
While smooth implants may develop slight under dermis wrinkling, they move more naturally and are softer to the touch.

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Breast Implants
/in Breast Augmentation, Breast Implant /by adminFive Things You Didn’t Know About Breast Implants
–
1. Breast implants have been around since the 1960s!
Is that why all of those mid-century beauties on Mad Men have such fantastic curves? Dow Corning Corporation, developed the first silicone breast implants in 1962.
The first recipient of breast implants, Timmie Jean Lindsey, is now over 80 years old – and she still has her original implants!
.
2. Early breast implants weren’t tested.
The Food and Drug Administration did not require the makers of breast implants to undergo safety testing until 1991.
Over 1,000,000 women had undergone breast implant surgery before the FDA began to require proof of their safety in 1991. While there were some complications caused by these untested breast implants, manufacturers of today’s breast implants undergo rigorous testing and FDA approval procedures.
As a result, today’s breast implants are as safe as they are beautiful.
.
2. Silicone breast implants were once only used for medical purposes.
Between the years 1992 and 2006, silicone breast implants were only allowed to be implanted in women after a mastectomy, or in women who needed to fix a previously implanted broken implant.
After huge improvements in breast implant technology – and rigorous safety testing – silicone breast implants were approved for use in the USA in 2006. These new generations of FDA approved silicone breast implants are exceptionally natural looking and feeling, as well as extremely safe.
.
3. Saline vs. Silicone is like Coke vs. Pepsi.
There are two types of breast implant filler: saline and silicone. Each has their distinct advantages and – like Coke and Pepsi drinkers – people have their own personal reasons for choosing a favorite.
Silicone breast implants tend to look and feel more real and natural – especially the latest technologies in MemoryShape breast implants which we use in our plastic surgery practice.
However, some women prefer saline because they can be filled more, or depleted a little, so a patient has the option of changing their breast implant size. Typically, saline implants are also less expensive – starting in our office at a total low cost of only $5,000 including all surgical expenses!
.
4. It can be too early – but it’s never too late – for breast implants!
The FDA recommends that you have to be 22 years old to get breast implants – but most people don’t realize that there is no upper age limit!
In cases where an unscrupulous surgeon puts silicone breast implants in an “under-aged” patient, there can be complications affecting the woman’s growth – and the warranty on the implants may also be waived.
However, as long as a woman is in good health with sufficient, healthy skin, even senior citizens can get breast implants.
Marie Jolstad, a healthy 84 year old widow with 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, is believed to be the oldest woman to ever get breast implants.
.
5. Surgeons in the U.S. perform the most breast implant surgeries.
Breast augmentation surgery is the number one most popular cosmetic surgery in the United States. Approximately 300,000 breast augmentations were performed in 2017 in the USA. And the number of breast implants is currently growing at a rate of 3% a year.
This growth is attributable to the fact that breast implants are safer, more natural looking and more affordable than ever before!
Brazil comes in second place for the most breast implant surgeries performed annually. And Mexico hits the list in third place.

Breast Implants Trends for 2019
/in Breast Implant /by adminTrends in Breast Implants for 2019.
Breast implants are still among the most popular surgical cosmetic procedures in 2019, with more than a quarter million breast augmentation surgeries performed annually. Certain trends and innovations in breast implant technologies are making breast enhancement safer and more satisfying for patients than ever before.
Top Birmingham, MI board certified plastic surgeon Doctor Ali has performed thousands of breast implant surgeries on universally satisfied patients who are thrilled with their results.
In this article Dr. Ali discusses some of the latest developments in breast implant techniques and technologies that are trending in 2019.
B & C Cup Breast Implants
In recent years there has been a trend toward more “naturally” sized and shaped breast implants. Gone are the old days of ridiculously large DDD implants that are clearly surgically enhanced.
Choosing an implant size is now much more about fitting the women’s proportions, than simply going “as big as possible.” For most women, a “C-cup” look is more attractive and realistic looking than DD-cups. Additionally, breasts that are too large for a woman’s frame can be uncomfortable – even leading to back problems.
And, inserting a breast implant that is too big for the existing breast skin and tissue can lead to complications, such as capsular contracture.
For all of these reasons, natural looking medium to full-size B and C cup looks are trending!
“Gummy Bear” Breast Implants
Today, breast implant patients have a number of new and improved breast implant materials from which to choose. One of the most popular variety of breast implants is the natural feeling gel implant.
Sometimes referred to as a “gummy bear” breast implant, this soft and pliable gel material feels like real breast tissue.
In addition to “feeling” more real, gel implants are an important advancement in silicone breast implant technology because they do not leak when damaged. Unlike saline or earlier generations of silicone breast implants, “gummy bears” are made of a cohesive silicone gel that will retain its form even if cut in half!
Gummy bear breast implants also holds their shape better – and don’t tend to wrinkle, ripple or sag – which also increases volume near the cleavage.
Quick Recovery From Breast Implant Surgery
Breast augmentation is still considered a major surgery. However, newer techniques – such as under-the-muscle breast implant – is more minimally invasive. This noit only reduces the risk of infection as well as shortens the previously extensive healing period.
Birmingham, MI board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali can create a “breast pocket” for the implant with the utmost precision. This substantially reduces post-surgical bruising, bleeding, pain and inflammation, leading to a more rapid recovery.
Less Need for Pain Medication
With the opioid addiction crisis sweeping America, doctors and patients are rightfully concerned about reducing the need for opioid painkillers. Patients undergoing under-the-muscle breast implants experience less post-surgery pain in addition to healing faster.
This is another reason under-the-muscle breast implants are among the most popular method of augmentation today. There are, of course, some exceptions to this trend. For example, women with a naturally large amount of breast tissue may experience superior results with over-the-muscle breast implants.

What’s Better, CoolSculpting or Liposuction?
/in CoolSculpting, Front Page Posts /by adminCoolSculpting vs. Liposuction –
CoolSculpting and Liposuction are two of Dr. Ali’s most popular – yet very different – fat loss treatments. Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of women and men in Birmingham, West Bloomfield & Oakland County get the body they want using these procedures.
In this article we discuss differences between Liposuction & CoolSculpting – to help you begin deciding which procedure is right for you.
Remember you are unique! What is the best fat loss procedure for one person may not be right for someone else. The best way to decide on your ideal fat loss treatment is a consultation with Dr. Ali. He will evaluate your situation and provide detailed answers to your questions, so that you can chose the best fat loss treatment plan for your goals.
CoolSculpting Procedure
CoolSculpting and Liposuction both remove stubborn areas of fat that resist diet and exercise. However, neither Liposuction nor CoolSculpting are weight loss tools for obesity and they do not remedy flabby or loose abdominal skin or muscles.
However, CoolSculpting is non-surgical and non-invasive. This means that there is no incision and no need for anesthetic. This also means that there no “downtime” and you can resume normal activities immediately after the treatment. In fact many people go back to work the same day!
CoolSculpting typically involves more than one treatment – while Liposuction is generally done in a single treatment.
The CoolSculpting process “freezes” the fat to kill the fat cells. The body then gradually and naturally eliminates the dead fat cells.
Because it takes time for the body to eliminate the dead fat cells, with CoolSculpting you will begin to see results after 2 to 4 weeks. And it may take 2 months for more dramatic results, and up to 3 to 5 months to deliver complete and final results. Full results will eventually reduce the area treated by 20 to 25%.
Liposuction Procedure
Unlike non-invasive CoolSculpting, Liposuction is a surgical technique that removes the excess fat deposits located between the skin and muscle.
In most cases Liposuction is performed under local anesthesia. A very small (less than 3mm) incision is made inLiposuction – but typically there are no stitches and no (or unnoticeable) scars.
While CoolSculpting waits for the body to eliminate the fat cells, Liposuction actually suctions the fat cells out at the time of the procedure. This means only one treatment is typically needed.
The patient can go home within a half hour after the procedure, however there is some downtime with Liposuction. The recovery time for Liposuction is from 2 to 7 days before normal activity can be resumed. And mild pain (treatable with medication) or discomfort gradually subsides over a period of 2 weeks up to 8 weeks.
Once the swelling goes down in 4 to 6 weeks, the Liposuction results are visible “immediately”. This is because the fat has been surgically “sucked out” and there is no need to wait for the body to eliminate it.
In summary, CoolSculpting is less invasive, less uncomfortable, and has less downtime than Liposuction. But CoolSculpting usually requires more treatments than Lipo, and CoolSculpting results take more treatments and the results take longer to be visible.
Best CoolSculpting in Birmingham, West Bloomfield & Oakland County
The best way to determine which fat loss treatment is best for you is to discuss your goals with a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali who offers both procedures. Dr. Ali will assess your skin, muscles, body, lifestyle and goals to help you chose the best treatment for your individual needs.
As an aside, it is wise to be very wary of doctors or clinic that only offer one type of fat loss procedure. They may try to steer or pressure you into the procedure they offer – even if another procedure would be better for you. Only a surgeon like Dr. Ali who offers multiple treatment options can give you the array of choices you need to find what’s best for your fat loss goals.
Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of women and men across Birmingham, West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills & Oakland County get the body they want with CoolSculpting and Liposuction. He will be happy to offer you a consultation to help you understand your options and decide if CoolSculpting or Lipo is right for you.
And remember, financing options are also available!

To help you and your plastic surgeon determine which procedures are right for YOU, here are 4 crucial questions to ask during your mommy makeover consultation.

Most women who are in generally good overall health and want to restore the tone and shape of their body can be good candidates for a mommy makeover. However, there are a few additional factors that should be considered to determine if a mommy makeover is right for you during this stage of life.
Generally, to be an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover, a woman should meet these criteria:
(2.) Which Mommy Makeover Procedures should I Get?
The procedures that are best for you will depend upon the current “problem areas” you wish to remedy, as well as your long term appearance goals. Clearly communicate your feelings to your plastic surgeon, so he can recommend the surgeries that are best for you.
The most common procedures to add to a mommy makeover are a tummy tuck, liposuction and some type of breast enhancement (either a breast lift, breast implants, or both).
A mommy makeover is also the perfect time to fix issues that you may have had even before you were a mommy – such as increasing your breast size with implants, or sculpting a waist with liposuction.
