10 Factors That Ensure You’ll Be Happy With Your Plastic Surgery Results

Bloomfield Hills, MI – So you’ve decided it’s time: you’re going to have plastic surgery. Be it for reconstruction, augmentation, or a confidence boost, you want to make sure the procedure is done perfectly. But how do you know you’ll be happy with the results?

Dr. Ali of Amae Plastic Surgery Center in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, explains, “When you’re searching for the right surgeon for you, it can be overwhelming. Luckily, you as the patient ultimately have the final say in who helps you attain your desired results. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and make sure you have each one answered to your full satisfaction.”

Part of Dr. Ali’s professional philosophy is dedicated to patients’ education. “I want to be sure that each patient understands exactly what his or her procedure entails. I approach each case as a unique set of circumstances, and always strive for the best possible outcome.” In addition to Dr. Ali’s advice, read on to find a few more points to help you enjoy the best experience possible.

How to Ensure You’ll Be Happy with Your Plastic Surgery Results

  1. Board Certification. First and foremost, make sure your doctor is board-certified; not all plastic surgeons are. Board-certified surgeons complete rigorous training and participate in ongoing education. If you really want to do your homework, you can even verify your doctor’s certification.
  2. Experience. Be sure your doctor has his or her own before and after photos. Ask for testimonials from former patients. Is the surgeon an expert in the procedure(s) you’re having done?
  3. Records and reviews. With the marvels of the internet, you can now read reviews of your doctor, find the office’s hours and location, and look for any records filed by state medical boards.
  4. Anesthesia, if applicable. If your procedure requires anesthesia, where will it be performed? Who will administer the anesthesia? Make sure the anesthesiologists are board-certified, and that you will be in a facility with proper monitoring devices and emergency equipment.
  5. Hospital admitting privileges. Should you need to go to a hospital for your plastic surgery, make sure your surgeon is able to admit you into an accredited hospital. You can always call the hospital to check if you’re unsure. Otherwise, be sure that your doctor’s in-office operating suite is accredited properly. You can check the American Association for Accreditation for Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) for more details.
  6. Information. Be certain your surgeon completely answers all questions. You might ask questions proposed by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Examples include: “What did your training for this procedure entail?” or “How many times have you performed this surgery?”
  7. Customer service. Bedside manner matters, and so does your experience with every member of the surgeon’s office. Make sure you’re treated respectfully and professionally. You should feel comfortable with the surgeon, and trust is essential.
  8. Know the difference. Cosmetic surgery is a branch of plastic surgery, so knowing what kind of procedure you want can help you decide what kind of surgeon you want. Plastic surgery focuses on fixing defects to restore or enhance function and appearance. Examples are breast reconstruction, cleft palate repair, and scar revision surgery. Cosmetic surgery, on the other hand, aims solely to enhance overall appearance (and not function). Examples include chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and Botox injections.
  9. Cost. Is your procedure all-inclusive, taxes and all? Does it include post-op care? What is the cost for additional surgeries, if needed? The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery’s pricing calculator can help you understand what prices to expect.
  10. Expectations. What are you expecting from your plastic surgery procedure? Dr. Ali ensures that all patients have realistic expectations by discussing all possibilities during the initial consultation. While the acclaimed surgeon does do his best to manage expectations, he still strives to provide all his patients with true life changing results.

How to Choose the Right Plastic Surgeon

Bloomfield Hills, MI– Choosing a plastic surgeon is a decision that will affect you for years to come, perhaps even for your entire life. A successful procedure will not only make you look better, but it will also give you greater confidence and boost your quality of life. If you instead make the mistake of choosing an inexperienced or unethical surgeon, you are at risk of having poor results, additional costs, or – worse of all – serious injury.

Most patients believe that as long as their plastic surgeon is certified by the state medical boards, they are a safe choice. It is important to realize the government does not require a plastic surgeon to be specifically trained and certified in every procedure he or she offers. This problem is even more common in cosmetic surgery since many general surgeons begin offering additional cosmetic procedures in hopes of generated more profit.
Things to ask and look for:

  • Are you certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery?
  • How much experience do you have performing my specific procedure?
  • What training did you undergo as it relates to the procedure I am interested in?
  • Or you could ask the doctor to perform the operation in a hospital, as hospitals don’t allow unqualified surgeons to perform surgery.

Experience In the Your Desired Procedure

It’s best to choose a surgeon who is specialized and board certified in plastic surgery, but it’s also important to realize that plastic surgeons can have also have subspecialties within any given field. Not all procedures are created equal. Each type of procedure requires a different skill set. For example, operating on a breast (which is mostly made up of soft and glandular tissue) is quite different than operating on an area with bone or cartilage.

To find the right doctor, you need to choose a board certified plastic surgeon. Second, be sure the surgeon has plenty of experience in the specific procedure you plan to have.

Other things to look for:

Once you’ve narrowed down your list, be sure to compare each doctor’s results. Look through the surgeons’ before and after photos for patients with features resembling your own. For example, if you want a facial procedure, look for patients with similar facial characteristics as your own. Do their results reflect what you want to look like following your procedure? Think hard about whether the pictured results appeal to you personally. If they don’t, look somewhere else for the ideal plastic surgeon.

Comfort and Care

Undergoing plastic surgery is an extremely personal matter. You should feel completely comfortable with your surgeon and his or her team.

You should also judge the level of care you receive. Are you being served and treated well? Is the staff helpful and friendly? Do you feel that you are completely prepared and informed of the risks and realities of surgery and recovery? Are your questions and concerns always promptly and respectfully addressed?

It’s a big decision to have plastic surgery. Do your homework, and you’re sure to find the perfect plastic surgeon for you.

If you are looking for the ideal plastic surgeon, look no further than Hour-Detroit magazine’s Top Doc 2016 winner Dr. M. Azhar Ali. Call or visit Amae Plastic Surgery Center today to book your consultation.

Brazilian Butt Lift

You Don’t Have to Go to Brazil for a Brazilian Butt Lift

Bloomfield Hills, MI – When you don’t like the way your backside looks in dresses and jeans, there’s a plastic surgery procedure you might want to know about called the Brazilian butt lift.

Believe it or not, this procedure doesn’t involve a trip to South America, nor does it require you learning Portuguese. The popular derriere treatment is available right here in the US by top Michigan plastic surgeon Dr. M. Azhar Ali.

Dr. Ali offers the Brazilian butt lift at Amae Plastic Surgery Center in Bloomfield Hills, Detroit, Michigan (also serving the areas of Troy, Farmington Hills, and Clarkston) and according to him, there has been a serious upsurge in requests for the procedure in recent years.

What is the Brazilian Butt Lift?

The Brazilian butt lift originated in South America and involves a gluteal augmentation that provides the buttocks with more fullness and roundness. Using a combination of liposuction and fat grafting, Dr. Ali can give you the bottom you’ve always dreamed of.

You should ask for a Brazilian butt lift if you suffer from buttocks that are flat, asymmetrical, small, uneven or disproportionate.

How Does the Procedure Work?

Dr. Ali will begin the procedure by harvesting fat from other areas of your body, such as your abdomen and thighs, and will use that fat to sculpt, fill and lift your backside region. Since the procedure makes use of liposuction to harvest your own fat, you know you won’t suffer any adverse reactions and the effects are long-lasting.

What’s more, Dr. Ali’s precision and skill allow for minuscule scars that are hardly noticeable, and the results look like they came straight from nature.

Follow-Up Care

You will be given a compression garment to wear for a couple of weeks following the procedure to ensure your buttocks retain the desired shape while healing. You may notice some bruising and swelling around the surgical area, and you should refrain from putting pressure on the area to allow the fat to integrate with your existing tissue. Dr. Ali will give you explicit instructions for at-home care to enhance comfort and expedite the healing process.

When your backside is healed, you’ll be able to wear dresses and jeans with complete confidence. Your buttocks will also appear more youthful, perky, and sensual, all thanks to the Brazilian butt lift by esteemed plastic surgeon Dr. Ali.

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Ali today at Amae Plastic Surgery Center to see what the Brazilian butt lift can do for you.

Michigan Plastic Surgeon Dr. M. Azhar Ali Wants to Help You Avoid Bad Plastic Surgery

Bloomfield Hills, MI – As we witness the dawning of 2017, many men and women are looking to turn back the clock with one or more cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures.

Patients have many choices these days when it comes to looking younger. Procedures like the tummy tuck, eyelid surgery, and mommy makeovers have grown in popularity in recent years, and the trend only seems to be increasing.

As more people opt for cosmetic and plastic surgery, competition has become fierce. That is when it becomes a buyer beware market. According to top Michigan plastic surgeon Dr. M. Azhar Ali, many patients try to save money by going to a professional who charges less, and that’s when dangers abound.

“Cosmetic and plastic surgery treatments are not something you want to base on price,” Dr. Ali says. “A doctor may fall within your budget, but do you really want to trust your face and/or body to a professional who charges rock bottom pricing?”

Dr. Ali notes that some doctors will drop fees for services they don’t specialize in, and that’s when patients can really get into trouble.

Scarring, disfigurement, and even death can result when doctors perform treatments they are not qualified to offer.

Instead, Dr. Ali says that you should base your decision of plastic surgeon on the level of training and experience, as well as the doctor’s reputation.

Dr. Ali, for example, enjoys a 99% patient approval rating at Amae Plastic Surgery Center in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, also serving Rochester Hills and Clarkston. He hopes that anyone considering cosmetic surgery or plastic surgery will take the time to conduct the proper research.

Here are the factors Dr. Ali says can help patients everywhere avoid bad plastic surgery at all costs.

How to Choose a Qualified Plastic Surgeon

Plastic Surgeon vs. Cosmetic Surgeon: Any doctor can take a weekend course and call themselves a cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Ali says. With many doctors receiving lower insurance reimbursements than they used to, some are turning to cosmetic surgery to make up costs.

Instead, Dr. Ali advises patients to seek out a plastic surgeon, who can offer both cosmetic and plastic surgery treatments.

A plastic surgeon has not only been through medical school but also several years of plastic surgery training after gaining their MD.

Plastic surgeons must also operate in accredited facilities that follow all local and federal laws related to safety and patient satisfaction.

Certification: When you visit a doctor for a consultation, look at the diplomas decorating the wall, advises Dr. Ali. All those certifications may look impressive, but only qualified plastic surgeons will be board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Another organization of note includes the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Before considering one or more cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures, visit the Board of Medical Specialties that allows you to insert the name of your doctor and location to determine if he or she is, in fact, board-certified.

Recommendations: The best way to find a doctor who offers excellent work is to find a previous and satisfied patient. Your sister-in-law, cousin, or your friend who you recently reconnected with on Facebook, if they mention having work done and you like what you see, find out who their doctor is. Dr. Ali says that you will still want to do your homework on that doctor, but at least a friend, family member or acquaintance can point you in the right direction as far as finding a doctor is concerned.

Ask Plenty of Questions: When you do find a doctor, most will have you set up an appointment for an initial consultation. Dr. Ali suggests that you use this time to ask the doctor about his or her training, qualifications, and patient history.

Ask for Before and Afters: While you’re at it, Dr. Ali says that you should ask to see before and after photos relating to the proposed treatment. The more photos you can look at, the better. Photos can be doctored, however, so don’t solely rely on photo evidence when choosing a cosmetic and/or plastic surgeon.

Dr. Ali has performed thousands of cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures at his Bloomfield Hills plastic surgery center. He says that he likes to see patients come in prepared. It shows they’ve done their homework, and that only a qualified plastic surgeon will do for the procedure(s) they have in mind.

Permanent Makeup MI

Is Permanent Makeup Right for You?

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Do you get tired of having to reapply your eyeliner, or making it through the day and realizing it was smudged? With permanent makeup, you no longer have to spend time applying and reapplying eyeliner, lip line, or trying to sculpt your eyebrows.

“Permanent makeup is gaining a lot of popularity,” says Michigan plastic surgeon Dr. Ali. “Through tattoos, women can have the benefit of permanent color enhancement on the eyes, lips, eyebrows and other areas of the face. We also can use tattoos to restore or enhance the areola following breast reconstructive surgery.”

Patients in Dr. Ali’s office can enjoy the benefits of permanently enhanced eyebrows, permanent eyeliner and permanent lip liner.

Do you spend a lot of time trying to shape the perfect eyebrow? Or are you missing fullness in your eyebrows, due to aging, chemotherapy or another issue? Permanent makeup is a great way to enhance and beautifully shape your eyebrows.

A medical aesthetician will work with you to determine the best look for you, and use the technique to either simply fill in areas that are missing hair, or two create dramatically colored brows that can add new expression and definition to your face.

All women know that good eyeliner can dramatically alter the appearance of one’s eyes. But bad eyeliner can leave you looking like a clown or a raccoon. And if you suffer from allergies or limited dexterity, applying eyeliner can be a nightmare. But with permanent eyeliner, you never have to worry about it again. Your aesthetician will work with you to create a look that is natural and that will bring out the beauty of your eyes. Permanent eyeliner can be applied above or below the eye, or both.

Permanent lip liner can improve the definition of your lips by making them appear fuller. The tattoed pigment can make subtle corrections in the shape of the lip, or restore color that has been lost over time. Your aesthetician will work to help you find the ideal color and shape to give you beautiful, natural-looking and fuller lips.

Permanent makeup is like any other tattoo – while it is long lasting, it can fade over time, especially when proper care isn’t taken to protect from the elements. Patients may want to touch up their makeup periodically.

Having permanent makeup applied can be mildly painful, as any tattoo can be. Your aesthetician can use topical anesthetics and analgesics to minimize your discomfort.

Dr. Ali’s team follows the strictest sanitation and safety standards, so you can always be sure receiving permanent makeup at Amae Plastic Surgery Center is safe. Always do proper research before having permanent makeup applied to be sure you receive your treatment from only those with the highest care standards.

If you’d like to learn more about permanent makeup, call Dr. Ali’s office today.

No Smoking

Why You Should Avoid Smoking Before and After Surgery

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Smoking is bad for your health, but did you know that smoking can be particularly dangerous both before and after plastic surgery?

Smoking introduces carbon monoxide into your body, which then affects your tissue. Nicotine from cigarettes and other tobacco products acts as a vasoconstrictor, limiting the amount of oxygen your blood vessels can carry to your body.

“Patients should stop smoking before plastic surgery,” says Dr. Ali. “It’s best to stop using tobacco several weeks before any procedure, and to refrain from smoking for several weeks following it, as well.”

Patients who smoke up until surgery can face complications during surgery, as well as longer healing times and worsened scars post-surgery. Smoking compromises our circulation, which can lead to skin breakdown before and after surgery. Additionally, smokers have a higher rate of post-surgery infection, and impaired healing can cause scarring, skin loss and necrosis.

While quitting smoking before surgery is recommended prior to any procedure, there are some where it is even more critical to ensure success. For instance, some surgeons may opt not to perform facelifts on patients because of the negative effects. The face has so many tiny capillaries that require good blood flow to aid in healing, and smoking can restrict positive blood flow, making recovery and healing harder.

During plastic surgery, your skin or other tissues will be moved, which results in altering of blood supply. Blood vessels may get divided and moved around to create the best look and shape. If the desired amount of oxygen can’t reach the area, the tissue may heal improperly or even die.

And this is true even if you’ve never before experienced issues in healing. Complications following plastic surgery are much higher than other procedures, precisely because tissues are being moved and blood supplies are being altered.

It’s also important to remember that smokers are not the only ones who need to worry about these issues. Using nicotine of any kind, including the patch, can affect your results. Patients should stop using nicotine of any kind until given the okay by their surgeon.

Some surgeons refuse to perform surgery on smokers altogether due to the deleterious effects of smoking, or make their patients sign a contract stating they won’t smoke for a certain period of time before and after their procedure.

It’s important to be completely honest with your surgeon about your nicotine habits so he can create a treatment plan that will offer the best outcomes. To avoid complications during surgery, as well as longer recovery times and worsened scars, following all of your surgeon’s directions regarding abstaining from nicotine products.

What Can Micro Needling do for You?

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Micro needling is a new facial therapy that is gaining traction with many in the cosmetic world due to its ability to minimize wrinkles and improve the look of the skin. But what exactly is it and how does it work?

Micro-needling is a minimally invasive skin procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. A skilled aesthetician uses the device to puncture the skin, creating what is known as a controlled skin injury. It may sound crazy, but this procedure actually works to improve the texture and firmness of a patient’s skin. That’s because each puncture by the needle sparks the body to create collagen and elastin to fill in the puncture wound. The result for you is a reduction in scars, acne pores and even stretch marks.

The devices can be rollers with wheels of needles attached, or pens that contain clusters of needles. Studies have proven that micro needling, when done by a licensed and trained doctor or aesthetician, is very effective in treating acne scars.

Micro needling is also effective in smoothing and minimizing small wrinkles, such as crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also effectively minimize wrinkles around the upper lip.

Dr. Ali, a Michigan plastic surgeon, offers the service through his highly trained aesthetician. While there are at-home micro needling devices on the market, for as little as $25, Dr. Ali warns against trying the procedure at home. You run the risk of infection and scarring due to using needles that are too long, dull, or skewed, or performing it on a face that isn’t completely clean.

When done in an office setting, as is done in Dr. Ali’s office, a topical anesthetic is applied to ensure the comfort of the patient. The number of sessions a patient may need will depend on his or her skin condition. For mild to moderate scarring and wrinkling, typically three or four treatments will be needed. For more severe cases, five or more may be needed to ensure the proper results. Patients should allow four to six weeks in between treatment to allow for the skin to heal properly.

There may be slight bleeding during the procedure. Afterwards, the face may be slightly red and puffy. You may feel as if you have a mild sunburn for 24-48 hours, and can experience minimal bleeding or bruising. Within just a couple of days, the skin will be ready for your usual beauty routine. In about a week, your skin will be noticeably smoother. Once your entire round of treatments is complete, the fine lines or acne scars you’ve been trying to hide will have vanished and you’ll have new, radiant skin.

Micro needling is a safe alternative to more invasive procedures to remove the appearance of scarring and fine lines. It works to improve the texture of your skin by stimulating collagen production and tissue regeneration to offer you younger, healthier looking skin. If you’re interested in what micro needling can do for you, call Dr. Ali’s office today at (855) 335-7200.

How to Choose a Plastic Surgeon

Deciding that you want to pursue cosmetic surgery is usually a decision that is not made lightly or in haste, and neither should choosing the person to perform that surgery! Once you have made the choice to move forward with a procedure, you need to start researching doctors who are capable of performing for you. This process may seem daunting and intimidating. As highly tenured staff of the plastic surgery industry, we wanted to share with you a few helpful tips for electing your surgeon.

Things to Look For:

Board Certified – make sure the surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. By law, anyone who is a doctor (i.e. a psychiatrist) can perform plastic surgery. Do not just go by the information on their website – do your research through the board to ensure it is accurate. A board certified surgeon will have undergone both academic testing as well as three to five years of general surgery training and a minimum of two years of plastic surgery training. It also ensures that they are completing continuing education courses and keeping their skills and knowledge relevant.

Malpractice Records – of course this is not something that they would advertise. Do your research – make sure there are no current or previous lawsuits brought against your surgeon. Reaching out to your state medical board can help you obtain this information.

Hospital Privileges – although some plastic surgeries may be outpatient procedures, many surgeons—particularly reputable ones—will partner with hospitals. Hospital privileges ensure that a full background check has been completed.

Healthgrades ratings & Vitals reviews – these services are a great way to find out how the doctor fares from both a patient and industry grading perspective. They also provide you with details about your surgeon’s background, schooling and certifications.

Things to Avoid:

Deals – think about it this way: qualified surgeons spend years of their life becoming eligible to perform surgery. Why would they then go and discount your procedures by 30-50%? Any surgeon offering something that seems “too good to be true” is likely offering just that. Be wary of deals – anything from free lipo with a breast augmentation to 50% off if you pay up front. This isn’t to say that the more expensive the better, but there are other ways to market than to undercut price.

Multiple Procedures – having multiple procedures increases risk, particularly when done in one setting. If you find yourself going in for a face lift consult and walking out with a recommendation of a face lift, breast augmentation and tummy tuck consider the surgeon’s true motivation.

Dr. Ali offers qualified consultations to patients – if you are unsure if cosmetic surgery is right for you or if you are interested in a procedure contact us today!
