Tummy Tuck Surgery After Weight Loss –
The past year of isolation during the pandemic has affected people’s weight in various ways. Many people gained 5 or more pounds – “the quarantine 15” – due to months of inactivity staying home and sitting on the couch. Others used the time away from work to run, work out, get in shape and lose weight. At AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa we are seeing an increase in liposuction procedures, as a fast permanent and effective to lose the “Covid-19 fifteen”.
But, whether you lose weight through discipline and hard work, or through fast and affordable liposuction, many people are disappointed to find after a substantial weight loss, that they are left with excess, loose skin in the abdominal area. And, unfortunately, all of the exercise in the world will not tighten looses skin. Fortunately a very common and routine surgical procedure called a “tummy tuck” (abdominoplasty) can tighten your skin – so you can enjoy your newly thinner body!
And, for people with only moderately loose skin, and amazing new non-surgical skin tightening procedure called Profound® is also available.
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of women in Birmingham, West Bloomfield, and across Oakland County and the Detroit area “get their abs back” after a large weight loss. In this article he discusses the pros and cons, and alternatives, of a tummy tuck after losing weight – and what to expect when you undergo this procedure.
Benefits of Tummy Tuck After Weight Loss
Losing a lot of weight is a significant achievement requiring a great deal of discipline, and you should be very proud of yourself! And it can be frustrating after all of that hard work to be left with excess skin, around your midsection, breasts, and arms.
This troublesome hanging skin that is left after weight loss is due to the skin’s inability to completely contract. For this reason many people take advantage of reconstructive plastic surgeries after major weight loss. A tummy tuck – and other body contouring plastic surgeries – are designed to remove excess skin and tighten the affected area.
After a tummy tuck, not only will your clothes fit and look better, but you will be able to engage in your favorite activities (including exercise, athletics and even sex) without feeling uncomfortable because of excess skin or excess flab!
When to Get a Tummy Tuck After Weight Loss
Typically it is recommended to be at or near your target weight before getting tummy tuck. If you plan to lose a considerable amount more weight, you should wait – as the skin may become lose all over again, and you may need touch up surgery.
You should also be confident that your large weight loss is a stable and permanent result of your new healthy lifestyle – and is not just the result of “yo-yo-ing”. For if you gain considerable weight it will likely thwart all of the results of your tummy tuck surgery.
Additionally, while tummy tucks are “routine” surgeries, they do come with risks – as does any surgical procedure. And patients with a lower BMI (body mass index), is much less likely to have surgical complications, such bleeding, infection, or abnormal lumps (seroma) or scars.
How a Tummy Tuck After Weight Loss Works
During a tummy tuck, you will be given general anesthetic to “knock you out” Then the plastic surgeon makes a horizontal incision, which will vary in size depending on how much skin you need removed, and whether muscle tightening is also being performed.
The skin is then pulled back, excess fat is removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened (if necessary). The skin is then pulled down, the excess skin is removed, and a new hole for the navel may be created to naturally reposition your belly button.
The result is a tight stomach area, with no flabbiness or loose skin. And the scar will be low, and easily hidden by underwear or bathing suits. You can see the amazing results of tummy tucks surgeries that Dr. Ali has performed in our Before & After gallery.

Tummy Tuck Surgery Alternative
Large amounts of excess, hanging skin can only be removed by tummy tuck surgery. However, for patients with only mild to moderate loose skin that hasn’t quite “snapped back” after liposuction or moderate weight loss, Profound® skin tightening provides an excellent, non-surgical alternative.
Profound is a groundbreaking new skin tightening technology that uses radiofrequency energy to regenerate the production of the three building blocks of young, healthy elastic skin: elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid.
Choosing a Tummy Tuck Surgeon
While a tummy tuck is quite a “routine” surgery, it is in fact a serious surgical procedure which requires skill and expertise. For this reason, you should select a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali, who has the training and the extensive experience to deliver beautiful results.
Dr. Ali is not only a skilled surgeon, he also understands the aesthetic issues associated with reconstructive plastic surgery. He will hide or minimize as much as feasible any scarring, perfectly reposition your navel, and eliminate stretch marks as much as possible – for an attractive abdomen.
Tummy tuck surgery can be life changing when properly performed – giving you the body you have always dreamed of after your weight loss journey.

Respecting Your Heritage with Ethnic Rhinoplasty
/in Nose Job, Rhinoplasty /by adminEthnic Rhinoplasty – Respecting Your Heritage
Ethnic rhinoplasty is a distinct category of “nose job” which incorporates an understanding of the patient’s unique ethnic heritage and cultural beauty ideals – to help ensure that patients maintain their natural appearance while enhancing their facial features.
When it comes to Latin, African, Asian, and Middle Eastern noses, there are certain hereditary differences in scale, shape, and projection that should be carefully taken into consideration when doing rhinoplasty surgery. Otherwise, the surgeon may be at risk of making the patients nose appear unnatural, incongruous, or no longer reflective of their cultural heritage.
For this reason, it is important for people of color to look for a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali who has performed rhinoplasty on people of all ethnicities – with expertise in understanding and respecting genetic differences and unique cultural ideals of beauty.
Cultural Sensitivity & Ethnic Rhinoplasty
First and foremost, ethnic rhinoplasty necessitates that the surgeon be aware of the specific distinctions and differences of ethnic groups from around the world. The surgeon should also have a thorough understanding of each patient’s personal and cultural beauty standards, rather than just relying on standard, “mainstream” or “Western” societal ideals.
The human nose is unique in that it has a variety of characteristics that vary by population. Broader nostrils coupled with a less pronounced bridge are common attributes of African American noses, which may lead some patients of Black heritage to consider rhinoplasty.
A low and broad nasal bridge, combined with a shortened and upturned nasal tip, little nasal projection, and relatively thick skin are all attributes common among many Asian populations – leading some patients to seek a nose that is slightly more “pronounced”.
And while some patients may want only minor modifications, others may desire more significant changes. Every person has the right to determine what will make themselves feel confident and attractive in their own skin!
Ethnic Rhinoplasty: Respecting Your Heritage Ethnicity
Most people are looking for opportunities to better their appearance in general. To improve our bodies, we change our diets and work out. Most women wear make-up to enhance their natural beauty, and everyone selects clothes that are “flattering.” Considering plastic surgery, such as rhinoplasty, is another excellent method of enhancing one’s appearance.
But when contemplating rhinoplasty, one important concern is not sacrificing the cultural origin which makes an individual special and “who they are.” This is why selecting the right surgeon for ethnic rhinoplasty is so critical.
There is no such thing as a “one size fits all” nose, not just because each individual has his or her own distinct facial features, but also because ethnic traits must be taken into account. The intent behind ethnic rhinoplasty is to modify a patient’s look while still remaining true and respectful to his or her race or ethnic heritage.
The final result of rhinoplasty should be a harmonious one, with no evidence that surgery was ever done. Overall, the aim of ethnic rhinoplasty is to celebrate and enhance (not change or erase) one’s heritage, beauty and diversity!
Ethnic Rhinoplasty: Not Changing Who You Are
The nose is similar to a complicated puzzle in which every piece must match correctly. Rhinoplasty takes this puzzle and reassembles and recreates the nose in a smooth and seamless manner, as if the original pieces were not altered in any way. To put it another way, a “better” aesthetic does not necessarily have to be overt. Even the tiniest modifications may have a major impact on the nose’s silhouette, resulting in a noticeably more pleasing variation.
For many years, as a result of the demands of popular culture, many celebrities went too far in shaving the nasal bridge down or cutting off the end. This type aesthetic is not only unnatural and highly telling, but it even exposes the nose to structural damage. Michael Jackson is one famous person whose plastic surgeon “went to far” with a rhinoplasty and caused structural damage to the nose. This is all the more reason to seek a board certified plastic surgeon with years of experience. Remember, more cartilage can be removed later, but adding cartilage if too much has been removed can’t be done.
The nose is not only in the middle of the face, but it also centers the face, bringing all of the face’s distinct features together in a balanced manner. A good rhinoplasty requires a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the face in relation to each of its constituent components. In fact, no surgical procedure has a greater impact on the face’s general composition than rhinoplasty.
So, rather than focusing only on the nose as an isolated object, the cosmetic surgeon should consider the patient’s physical appearance as a whole. And, in the case of ethnic rhinoplasty the patient’s personal and cultural ideals of beauty should also be of the utmost importance.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty | Detroit Area
Ethnic rhinoplasty has never been more common. This is, in large part, because modern rhinoplasty techniques make recovery from surgery faster, safer and less painful than ever. And, with many people already working from home during the pandemic, there is no need to take prolonged time off work while your nose heals!
Schedule an appointment for an ethnic rhinoplasty consultation with Dr. Ali at AMAE Plastic Surgery in the Detroit area today to learn more about how ethnic rhinoplasty can enhance your appearance, while ensuring you remain true to your natural beauty and ethnic heritage.
What to Expect with Nostril Reduction Surgery
/in Nose Job, Rhinoplasty /by adminWhat to Expect with Nostril Reduction Surgery: Before, During & After
Alarplasty is the medical term for nostril reduction surgery. It’s a specific type of rhinoplasty (nose job) that narrows the width of the nostrils. Nostril reduction surgery, also known as “alar base reduction surgery”, is a surgical operation that subtly alters the base of the nose, typically making it less wide or broad, while still retaining a natural appearance.
Nostril reduction surgery is a highly effective procedure for people who want to reduce the appearance of nasal “flaring”, or who desire to make their nose or nostrils look more symmetrical.
Nostril reduction surgery is also a procedure that can enhance the appearance of a person’s nostrils by ensuring that they are proportionate to the rest of the nose, and the other facial features. Even when the nose is the right size for the rest of the face, enlarged nostrils can make an otherwise “perfect” nose seem larger altogether.
Dr. Ali has restored hundreds of patients’ confidence in their appearance with nostril reduction surgery, by balancing the nose and nostrils with the rest of the face.
In this article Troy, MI area board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains what to expect before, during and after nostril reduction surgery.
Before Nostril Reduction Surgery: Making the Decision
If a person’s nose is “flared” – or their nostrils seem open and conspicuous – they may consider nose reduction surgery.
The fleshy sections of the nose that bind your nostrils to the face itself are known as “alar”. Alar can vary greatly from person to person – and be thicker or thinner, longer, or shorter, wider or narrower. Certain ethnicities are more prone to wider alar, such as individuals of African heritage.
Nostril reduction surgery removes a very small amount of the alar – changing the width of the nose – without compromising a person’s identity or racial identity. Even minute changes to the alar can cause dramatic improvement in the appearance of the nose.
Good candidates for nostril reduction surgery include:
The best way to find out how nostril reduction surgery may be able to help you obtain your desired appearance goals is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ali. He is one of Michigan’s first and only plastic surgeons to offer cutting-edge Vectra 3D imaging for the face.
Revolutionary Vectra 3D imaging creates a three-dimensional computerized view of the patient’s nose from every angle, allowing Dr. Ali to show you your choices and projected results prior to your nostril reduction surgery procedure.
During Nostril Reduction Surgery: The Procedure
Nostril reduction surgery is actually a type of rhinoplasty – but it is a less invasive procedure than a full “nose job”.
Prior to surgery, the patient will need to create arrangements for someone to take them to and from the doctor’s office or hospital. This is particularly important for anyone receiving general anesthesia.
In most cases “local” anesthetic is all that is needed. General anesthesia (being put to sleep) is not usually necessary during nostril reduction surgery. However, if the nostril reduction surgery is being combined with a conventional rhinoplasty (full nose job) the patient will typically be “put under”.
A marker will be used to draw lines on the nose, showing the exact location of the incisions. After the “alar” is subtly reduced, sutures (stitches) will be used to stabilize the new outline of the alar (base of the nose). A bandage will be applied afterwards, and patients will be given medication for pain relief – as well as instructions for post-opt care and recovery, including how to avoid infection at the surgical site.
After Nostril Reduction Surgery: Recovery
When compared to other facial treatments, the recovery period for nostril reduction surgery is quite short. Initially, the nose will be red and swollen, but this will most likely subside after 1 to 2 weeks. The stitches are usually removed one week after surgery at a follow up appointment. Most patients recover fully within 1-2 weeks. And usually there is only mild swelling lasting no more than a month.
Dr. Ali will discuss what precautions each patient should take after nostril reduction surgery, to help ensure that the healing process moves as rapidly as possible. Most importantly, patients need to prevent injury to the nose during the recovery period. So, strenuous activities, exercise, and most athletic activities need to be avoided until the nose heals fully in place.

Nostril Reduction Surgery – Frequently Asked Questions
/in Nose Job, Rhinoplasty /by adminNostril Reduction Surgery FAQs
Noses are like snowflakes – no two are identical. And what one person finds appealing may not fit another person’s ideal of how they wish to look. For some people, even a perfectly likeable nose can be diminished (in their opinion), by wide nostrils.
Even if the nose is the right size for the rest of the face, enlarged nostrils can make the nose seem larger or slightly out of proportion. And being dissatisfied with your nose can negatively impact a person’s self-esteem. The bottom line is that it’s your nose … and rhinoplasty or nostril reduction surgery can help you adjust its appearance to make you happy! What is nostril reduction?
Technically, nostril reduction surgery is called “alarplasty”. It is a specific type of rhinoplasty or “nose job”.
Also known as “alar base reduction surgery”, Nostril Reduction is a surgical operation that alters the base of the nose. It can help people who wish to narrow the appearance of nasal flaring, as well as patients seeking more symmetry in their nose’s form.
Nostril reduction surgery can also make the size of the nostrils more proportionate to the rest of the nose and face – which can enhance the aesthetic appearance of the entire face.
How do I Know What Nostril Reduction Will Look Like?
The decision to alter the shape of one’s nose is a personal one and should be handled with care and careful consideration. Dr. Ali will perform a facial examination during your consultation to discuss your appearance goals, and to help you determine the ideal proportions for your unique nose and nostrils.
To make your decision easier, our advanced Vectra-3 diagnostic computer imaging system can allow patients to see their nostrils from the side, behind, front, and above before electing to surgery. Then it will show you a series of images of what the nose might look like after different surgery options. This way you can visualize your nostril reduction results before you undergo the procedure!
How Will Nostril Reduction Surgery be Performed?
Dr. Ali is skilled in changing the scale and breadth of the nostrils while minimizing or preventing the appearance of any scars. This is achieved by making a series of thin, barely visible incisions within the nose’s base.
The “Weir excision” is one of the most common techniques used by Dr. Ali to shorten the nostril foundation and reduce the nostril sidewalls, to enhance the overall appearance of the nose. Other types of incisions may, however, be used if Dr. Ali should decide that they would produce the best possible results. The intention, of course, is to keep the nose’s base looking as natural as possible, while still reducing the width.
The “wedge procedure” is another nostril reduction technique. By eliminating wedges of alar (the fleshy, angled lower portion of the nose that connects to the cheek) wedge excisions eliminate nasal flaring. In this process, the incisions are made along the outside of the nostril but do not narrow it. Instead the incision “detaches” the nostril subtly from the cheek – for a less “flared” appearance. There is also the Sill technique – which is used to limit nostril width and shorten the base of the alar, at the point where it attaches to the cheek.
Based on what you and Dr. Ali decide during your Vectra 3D imaging session, Dr. Ali will select the best surgical technique for your appearance goals.
How Does Nostril Reduction Surgery Effect People of Color?
People of different ethnic origins naturally have certain types of hair, eye colors, and skin tones specific to their ethnicity. And the nasal structure of different ethnicities is also often equally unique to their heritage. For example, men and women of African origin usually have a nose that is more flat and broad, often with a wider base, or a more rounded tip. And, in addition to differences in genetics, different cultures also have their own unique concepts of beauty.
Dr. Ali is a talented rhinoplasty surgeon who is skilled at enhancing a person’s natural beauty while still preserving their ethnic heritage and identity.
When it comes to rhinoplasty or nostril reduction, it’s important for people of color to find a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali who doesn’t simply create “one-size-fits-all” noses. Dr. Ali is a rhinoplasty expert and Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon who tailors each rhinoplasty surgery to the patient’s facial features and proportions, while respecting their genetic heritage, and and honoring their cultural beauty ideals.
How Long is the Recovery Process Following Nostril Reduction Surgery?
When compared to other types of facial plastic surgery, the recovery period for nostril reduction surgery is comparatively short. Initially, the nose will be red and swollen, but this will gradually subside over the following 1 to 2 weeks. The stitches are usually removed approximately one week after surgery.
While nostril reduction surgery puts very few restrictions on the patient during recovery, first and foremost the patient must take care not to injure the nose while it is healing. So, strenuous or rough activities, such as exercising and most types of athletics should be avoided until the nose is fully healed in place.

The Perfect Mothers Day Gift: Cosmetic Surgery Gift Certificates
/in Oakland County Plastic Surgery /by admin4 Cosmetic Surgery Mothers Days Gifts for Mom
Mother’s Day is Sunday May 9th!
Mom does so much for everybody! But coming up with a gift that will surprise, delight and show her how much she means can be a daunting task! So we’ve got some suggestions for the perfect Mother’s Day gift that keeps on giving all year round! And with a Cosmetic Surgery Gift Card there’s no size or color to pick, and no need to have to go to a store or the mall!
You can give any one of the Mother’s Day gifts on this list with a Cosmetic Surgery Gift Certificate from our prestigious Detroit area plastic surgery office – and know that your Mom or wife will be completely thrilled, because she can choose the aesthetic procedures she wants!
Give Her the Body She’s Always Wanted with Cosmetic Surgery
What if you could give Mom the body she’s always wanted this Mother’s Day? And we are definitely NOT talking about a new piece of exercise equipment (like the infamous Peloton commercial)! We offer several body enhancement and fat loss treatments at our Detroit area cosmetic surgery office.
1. Give Mom Coolsculpting for Mother’s Day
Does Mom complain about her mid-section, her love handles, or maybe her thighs or hips? No matter what her “problem areas” Coolsculpting offers non-surgical fat loss – with no downtime!
CoolSculpting is a completely non-invasive, non-surgical fat-removal procedure. A handheld applicator applies cold temperatures to the unwanted fat. This applicator “freezes” or “crystalizes” the fat cells, and the body then naturally eliminates them. CoolSculpting can remove fat and inches from the waist, abs, thighs, hips, “love handles” – and almost anywhere else on the body, even a “double chin”.
A gift certificate for CoolSculpting is something almost any woman would love, to get rid of the stubborn fat pockets she hates.
2. Give Her Liposuction for Mother’s Day
Another fat loss procedure she would love to get (instead of another bouquet of roses) is tumescent liposuction. We can remove fat from almost any area of the body, including the face, neck, chin, belly, hips, buttocks, thighs, back, arms, calves, ankles and even knees.
Liposuction is ideal for stubborn pockets of fat almost anywhere on the body that simply do not respond to exercise or dieting. Usually this type of fat is hereditary to some degree, and the only way to permanently remove it is with liposuction.
While this minimally invasive surgical procedure requires local anesthetic, the results are almost immediate. So she can get the liposuction in January and be bikini-ready for a February beach getaway.
Can’t decide between liposuction and CoolSculpting? No problem! A gift certificate from our Detroit area cosmetic surgery office enables Mom to choose the procedure SHE wants.
3. Give Her a Breast Augmentation for Valentine’s Day
If you really want to GO BIG for Mother’s Day (and SHE does too), then consider a Gift Certificate for breast augmentation at our Detroit area Medical Office and Med Spa.
We know you love Mom just the way she is! But perhaps your wife or mother has always been a bit self conscious about the size, shape or placement of her breasts. Breast enhancement surgery can give her the bustline she’s always wanted.
After the toll that pregnancy, nursing, weight fluctuations and all that maternal worry has taken on Mom, a gift certificate for breast implants can get her started on a journey to loving the way she looks.
4. Give Your Wife Better Sex with Vaginal Rejuvenation
Perhaps your kids are grown – and now it’s time for you and your wife to enjoy some intimate “me time.” Give the mother of your kids (AND yourself) the gift of better sex and improved intimacy this Mother’s Day with a gift certificate for vaginal rejuvenation.
Sadly, childbirth, aging and post-menopausal hormone decrease all take their toll on a woman’s vagina. The vaginal lining can become looser, lax (lacking in tone), dry, and less sensitive. This results in painful sex for the woman and less sensation and less satisfaction for both partners.
But the fantastic news is that a one-time, non-surgical vaginal treatment can “turn back the clock” on female intimacy problems. Radiofrequency “vaginal rejuvenation” restore tightness, elasticity, lubrication and sensation to the vagina – in just one treatment, without surgery and without hormones!
Wouldn’t she (and you) like to get better sex for Mother’s Day?
Detroit Area Cosmetic Surgery Gift Certificates
Many women hesitate to spend money on themselves. So a gift certificate lets her focus on HERSELF for a change. After opening her Cosmetic Surgery gift certificate, she can schedule a consultation at our Detroit area Med Spa in Birmingham to discuss the procedures she wants. We will help her decide what treatments are right to achieve her appearance goals, and she’ll be thanking you now and for years to come.
This year give her the gift that keeps on giving with a cosmetic surgery gift certificate for services from renowned Detroit area cosmetic surgeon Dr. Ali.

Labiaplasty Surgery vs Viveve Non-Surgical Labia Remodeling
/in Labiaplasty, Vaginal Rejuvenation /by adminNon-Surgical Labia Remodeling Instead of Labiaplasty –
An important component of enjoying a sex life that is both happy and healthy is self-confidence in the bedroom. But for many women, insecurities about their body make that kind of confidence seem almost impossible. The root of such insecurities for many such women is an above-average sized labia, or a labia that is loose or wrinkled. In the past, the only way to correct such issues was through labiaplasty surgery. Today, however, Detroit area women now also have access to an innovative non-surgical labiaplasty alternative.
Thanks to recent technological developments in the field of gynecology, non-surgical labiaplasty is a noninvasive alternative to traditional labiaplasty surgery. Renowned Detroit area plastic surgeon is pleased to offer both labiaplasty and non-surgical Viveve radiofrequency labia remodeling.
Through Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty, our patients are able to improve the overall appearance of their labia, shrinking and tightening it to deliver results to rival surgical labiaplasty. In this article, board certified Detroit area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali discusses the difference between traditional labiaplasty surgery and Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty.
Labiaplasty Surgery
Also known as “labia edge excision,” surgical labiaplasty is performed by physically cutting excess skin off of the labia. Unlike non-surgical labiaplasty, traditional labiaplasty surgery requires our Detroit area patients to undergo anesthetic prior to their procedure. Even the largest of labias can be trimmed to a beautiful length with labiaplasty surgery.
Typically, labiaplasty surgery patients must allow for at least two full days of bed rest following treatment, something not required of our non-surgical labiaplasty patients. Traditional labiaplasty differs further from non-surgical labiaplasty in that, following surgery, at least a week of downtime is required. Following this, labiaplasty surgery patients must also avoid strenuous physical activity -as well as sexual intercourse- for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
During the healing process, pain medication will be prescribed as needed, to treat any discomfort.
Viveve Non-surgical Labiaplasty Alternative
At AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa, we not only offer our Detroit area patients not only traditional labiaplasty, but also provide Viveve radiofrequency non-surgical labiaplasty alternative. Viveve is a perfect alternative to surgery for Detroit area women with mild to moderate labial distention – or wrinkled labia. Greater amounts of labial distention may, however, benefit more from traditional surgery, rather than this non-surgical labiaplasty alternative.
Using a slim device resembling a wand, Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty is capable of remodeling the labia on a deep, cellular level by emitting radiofrequency energy. Patients who choose Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty walk away from treatment with a labia that is smoother, smaller, and more youthful in appearance. And, as the effects develop over time, the l;abia will continue to become smaller, smoother and more youthful looking.
Radiofrequency (“RF”) – the technology used in Viveve – has a long history of incredible skin tightening, toning, and contouring results. When used to treat the skin of the face, RF treatments are referred to as being a “non-surgical facelift.” The radiofrequency energy in Viveve offers the same level of skin tightening, and toning on the labia. So, in many ways, Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty is like a “facelift for the labia.”
No Downtime With Viveve Non-surgical Labiaplasty
Our Detroit area Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty patients are not subject to the downtime that comes with traditional labiaplasty surgery, nor do they require pain medication to manage discomfort. And unlike traditional labiaplasty patients, Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty patients have the luxury of returning to their normal daily routine as soon as they leave their appointment. Following treatment, our Detroit area patients are free to engage in sexual intercourse and other strenuous physical activities the same day as their Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty!
Viveve non-surgical labiaplasty results in no scarring, no risk of infection, and no ongoing pain with this safe, effective non-surgical labiaplasty alternative.
Non-surgical Labiaplasty – Detroit Area
At AMAE Med Spa, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali is one of the only physicians in the Detroit area to offer both labiaplasty surgery and non-surgical labia remodelling.

Tummy Tuck Surgery After Weight Loss or Liposuction
/in Tummy Tuck /by adminTummy Tuck Surgery After Weight Loss –

Now’s the Time to Lose Belly Fat with Affordable Liposuction
/in Liposuction /by adminLiposuction for the Tummy (Stomach, Abdomen, Waist & Belly)
Much has been made of the “quarantine 15” – the weight gain that many of us have experienced after months of inactivity and staying at home watching Netflix. For some people this unwanted fat around the middle is a new phenomenon. But for others, social distancing has just made a bad situation worse, by adding additional inches to an already flabby belly.
For this reason – coupled with the fact that many of us are forced to see ourselves on Zoom cameras everyday – the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has reported that liposuction procedures have actually increased during the past year!
Another reason for the growth in liposuction treatments may also be that NOW is the perfect time to get lipo. If you are already working from home, and not going out socializing much, it is the ideal time to undergo liposuction. You won’t have to take time off work for the recovery period, and no one will even know you’ve had it done! They will just think you look great when they see you again!
Liposuction for the Belly
Although liposuction can now performed on almost every area of the body, it originated as a treatment for removing excess fat from the tummy / belly / abdomen / waist / stomach area. And, in fact, the belly is still the number one requested area for liposuction.
In recent years, liposuction technologies have been refined and improved into procedures that are much more comfortable, safe, and affordable – and offer beautiful results with less downtime.
Tumescent liposuction uses very fine tubes (microcannulas) to “suck out” belly fat. Because they are so small, the incision is miniscule – and requires no stiches and leaves no scarring. Swelling, bruising and pain are also minimized by the use of the extremely thin cannulas.
Once the fat cells are removed from the abdomen they are “gone for good” and will not return. Of course you can still gain weight with improper diet and lack of exercise – but the fat in the liposuction area will not return. And while liposuction is not a weight loss method per se, up to eleven pounds of fat can be removed in a typical single liposuction session!
Benefits of a Skilled Liposuction Surgeon
Liposuction removes those pockets and bulges of abdominal belly fat that diet and exercise don’t touch. You see, your heredity or “DNA” determines where your body will place fat cells – and you are “stuck” with them in that location, no matter how much weight you lose. But liposuction changes the game by removing these excess fat cells!
Contouring the abdomen with liposuction is truly part science and part art. In addition to using state-of-the-art tumescent liposuction technologies to remove inches, a skilled and experienced liposuction surgeon will “sculpt” your fat deposits to give your body the best proportions, “curves,” and contours.
An experienced liposuction surgeon such as Dr. Ali will approaching the abdomen from multiple angles to prevent irregular removal as well as ensure there is not a “donut” of fat around the navel. It is more than just “removing fat” but rather sculpting different areas of the body, to produce smooth, symmetrical, proportionate, results. A skilled plastic surgeon will also apply the cannula parallel to the skin’s surface, which prevents dimpling and avoids damage to surrounding tissues.
Additionally, the amount of fat removed needs to be assessed in relation to the degree of skin elasticity. Older patients, previous smokers, and some others may have less elasticity. A more conservative approach to liposuction may need to be taken in these situations to prevent creating an empty skin envelope after liposuction.
Alternatively, for those who are left with excess loose, sagging skin in the belly, liposuction can be combined with a Tummy Tuck or revolutionary new, non-surgical Profound® skin tightening.
In short, abdominal liposuction must be tailored to the specific needs of each patient and must take many factors into account to ensure optimal results.
Circumferential Torso Liposuction
Central abdomen liposuction only addresses the belly. But many patients with excess abdominal fat also have fat deposits in surrounding areas, such as the “flanks” or “love-handles”. For these patients, “circumferential torso liposuction” is beneficial – which addresses the abdomen, flanks and waist – so as to prevent a wide and flat look.
In order to properly deliver circumferential torso liposuction, a patient typically lies on their side with their back straight, giving the plastic surgeon access to the waist, the central abdomen and the flanks. This enables the surgeon to bring proportion, balance and smooth contours to the entire area – rather than just sucking out fat from an isolated spot in the front of the belly.

Rhinoplasty Revision: Fixing a Bad “Nose Job”
/in Nose Job, Rhinoplasty /by adminRevision Rhinoplasty Surgery: Fixing a Bad Nose Job –
Successful rhinoplasty involves both art and science to achieve a nasal shape that is beautiful, natural and structurally sound for the rest of your life. Unfortunately, many women and men have experienced unsatisfactory and extremely disappointing results from inexperienced or unskilled surgeons.
And in 2021, many people are now forced to confront their own appearance concerns, thanks to the pervasiveness of Zoom appearances – for work, school, connecting with loved ones, socializing and even masking romantic connections. It’s simply hard to ignore a nose you are unhappy with, when the camera is on you all the time. For this reason, we are seeing an increase in requests for revision of rhinoplasties that were previously performed by less skilled doctors.
The great news is that – like any medical technology – advancements have been made over the last several decades in rhinoplasty that replace older procedures with newer and better techniques!
In cases where you are unhappy with a nose job you previously had performed, revision rhinoplasty surgery by a talented, experienced and caring plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali can correct some or all of the damage done by the original rhinoplasty. Dr. Ali uses state of the art techniques – and years of experience – to perform revision rhinoplasty that can correct problems with old “nose jobs” and deliver more beautiful and natural results.
Reasons for Bad Nose Jobs
An unfavorable cosmetic outcome of a nose job can be due to a wide range of causes, but poor technical execution by the surgeon is often to blame. Unfortunately, in the early years of “nose jobs”, the only way surgeons knew how to alter the shape of the nasal tip was the aggressive removal of cartilage. This type of “excisional rhinoplasty” often resulted in the nose becoming progressively deformed over time – because the supporting cartilage had been removed.
And, sadly, many incompetent surgeons still “go to far” with nose jobs – resulting in a very unnatural “plastic-surgery” look, as well as structural defects that cause malformation over time.
Additionally, in previous decades of nose job surgery, many surgeons tried to achieve a single type of “ideal” nose shape for all patients – shortened and turned up on the end. While this nose shape may look proportionate or “cute” on certain women, it does not take into consideration the ethnic heritage of the patient. A “Caucasian nose” may not only look out-of-place on an Asian or African American individual, but can also erase a person’s important ethnic identity.
Michael Jackson’s aggressive rhinoplasty surgery is a classic example of a nose job that “went to far” causing structural problems, as well as compromising his racial identity.
In other cases, a “bad nose job” may be the result of a medical issue, such as infection, scar formation, skin contracture or tightening that pulled on the tip, or even warping of the cartilage that changed the shape. And even a “good” nose job can go “bad if the nose is subsequently injured by an accident, a fall, a blow, or during athletic activities.
Choosing the Right Revision Rhinoplasty Surgeon
The good news is that, whatever the cause, when a rhinoplasty “goes bad” revision rhinoplasty by a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali can help restore your appearance and correct structural defects. Dr. Ali is trained in the most advanced “endoscopic” techniques – meaning he can perform many rhinoplasty revisions with minimally invasive techniques that involve tiny incisions and almost no scarring.
And, Dr. Ali is also skilled in using certain injectable fillers to adjust and correct proportions and symmetry – in some cases revising the nasal profile, without surgery altogether! Dr. Ali also understands the unique nasal characteristics of different ethnicities – and he has the skill and experience to enhance your beauty, while retaining a natural appearance that doesn’t change “who you are”!
3D Vectra Nose Job Imaging
Dr. Ali is one of only a few plastic surgeons in the entire Birmingham and greater Detroit area to offer state-of-the-art Vectra 3D facial imaging technology. Using digital imaging Dr. Ali can show you what your nose will look like after your nose job or revision rhinoplasty surgery. This enables patients to visualize their expected results – so they can decide if, when and how they would like to proceed with surgery or other revision procedures.
Risks of Revision Rhinoplasty
In general, a first time or “primary” rhinoplasty is extremely routine and exceedingly safe – and serious complications are quite rare and can be treated effectively.
However, a secondary or revision rhinoplasty is always associated with higher risks, because the nasal tissues have previously been affected by prior surgery. In addition to pre-existing inflammation from prior surgery, there is typically also increased subcutaneous scarring, diminished blood supply and reduced skin elasticity. And, in the case of excisional rhinoplasty there may also be damaged or missing cartilage and other skeletal elements.
That is why it is extremely important to choose a highly skilled, experienced board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali for revision rhinoplasty surgery.
Board Certified Revision Rhinoplasty Surgeon
As with anything else, it is always easier to do something right the first time, rather than try to fix something that was done poorly and improperly. In some cases, an existing nose job’s deformities are so severe as to require multiple surgeries to normalize the nose. In other cases a misshapen nose cannot always be completely reconstructed into a “perfect nose” – but substantial improvement is almost always an option in the hands of a skilled, Board Certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali.
But in the vast majority of cases, Dr. Ali can reconstruct your nose into a shape, proportions and symmetry that complements your facial features, and leaves you satisfied with your appearance. And Vectra 3D imaging technology in our Birmingham office takes the “guess work” out of knowing what your results will be!
Birmingham’s Best Revision Nose Job Surgeon
If you are suffering from an unsuccessful or “botched” nose job, call Birmingham Board Certified Plastic surgeon Dr. Ali for a evaluation and consultation. He will help you set realistic expectations, and explain your surgical options for correcting your previous nose job – ensuring that you achieve the best possible rhinoplasty results in your situation.

MemoryShape®: the Most Natural Breast Implants
/in Breast Augmentation, Breast Implant /by adminMemoryShape® the Most Natural Breast Implants
It is no surprise that breast implant technology has come a long way since they were first introduced almost 60 years ago! In June 2013, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the some new, advanced types of silicone gel-filled breast implants, bringing the total number of approved products to five in the United States. One of these newly approved products was was the natural looking and feeling MemoryShape breast implant.
Seven years later, Detroit area double board certified plastic surgeon Doctor Ali still typically prefers MemoryShape® Breast Implants for their natural shape, realistic feel, and excellent variety of sizes and silhouettes.
About Mentor Breast Implants
Mentor Worldwide LLC was founded in 1969, and has since grown into the leading manufacturer of supplies for the breast implant surgery market. Mentor works tirelessly to develop, manufacture, and market top-of-the-line breast implants for patients around the world, including Detroit.

What are MemoryShape®? Breast Implants
MENTOR® MemoryShape® Breast Implants have a unique, tapered appearance. They are thinner at the top and gently slope to a fuller “projection” near the implant’s bottom – just like a natural breast.
Earlier generations of breast implants were very round, giving an artificial “globe” or “melon” appearance. These are the recognizable breast implants that one thinks of on actresses and exotic dancers from from past decades – many of who had artificial looking, oversized breasts.
Today, most women prefer that they do NOT look like they have had “work done”. That is why MENTOR® MemoryShape® Breast Implants are so popular – because they mimic the silhouette of a natural breast. MemoryShape® Breast Implants soft gel silicone also feel very realistic to the touch!
As an additional advantage, The MemoryShape® technology has built in SILTEX® Microtexture imprinting that is designed to help keep implants in place. So they don’t shift over time like older models of breast implants often did.
Why Doctor Ali Uses MemoryShape® Breast Implants
MemoryShape® Breast Implants imitate the silhouette of a natural breast with a teardrop shape. Filled with a uniquely formulated cohesive gel, MemoryShape® Breast Implants provide a youthful firmness and natural silhouette that always retains shape.
Mentor’s silicone gel breast implants perfectly resemble natural breasts in feel, shape, and weight. The Mentor MemoryShape® Breast Implants are specifically designed to provide more volume towards the bottom of the breast and less towards the top, much as is the case with a natural breast.
There are five different MemoryShape® Breast Implants available to Detroit patients, each varying in shape, width, height, and projection measurements.
Detroit Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ali has undergone the rigorous mandated MENTOR® MemoryShape® Implant Device Training required of all physicians in order to gain access to MENTOR® MemoryShape® Breast Implants, making him the top choice among Detroit patients for all of their breast implant needs.

In his Detroit plastic surgery practice, Doctor Ali prefers a type of breast implants called MemoryShape™ Breast Implants. Breast Implant Statistics
Breast augmentation has continued to be the single most popular cosmetic surgeries in the US since 2006. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2019, there were 299,715 breast augmentation procedures performed across the United States alone. This makes it even more popular in the US than liposuction!
Plastic surgeons believe that there are several reasons breast augmentation continues to be the#1 cosmetic surgery:
#1. New technologies in breast implants have made them safer than ever
#2. The cost of breast implant surgery has become more affordable in recent years
#3. Celebrities & social media have removed the stigma from breast implant surgery
#4. Women feel more empowered to take control of their bodies
#5. New surgical techniques have reduced risk and downtime of breast implant surgery
#6. New breast implant designs look more natural
#7. New breast implant materials feel more realistic
Age and Breast Implants
The FDA does not recommend breast implants for patients under 18, and board-certified plastic surgeons won’t perform breast augmentations on women under 22 since breast tissue isn’t considered fully developed until that time.
But women in good health of all ages of 22 and beyond can enjoy the benefits of breast implant surgery. In fact, approximately 7,000 women over the age of 55 get breast implants every year.
Whether breast augmentation is right for you depends on your overall general health, underlying medical conditions, lifestyle, emotional state, body type, breast size/ shape before surgery, as well as your appearance goals after surgery.
