What Is Breast Implant Tracking?

Each breast implant is given a specific serial number, which allows the manufacturer to locate important information regarding when and how the implants you received during your breast implant surgery were manufactured. As one of the leading choices for Oakland County patients undergoing breast implant surgery, Mentor has developed a breast implant tracking program tasked with keeping you updated on all necessary information regarding your mentor breast implants.

Breast Implant Tracking is Required by Law

It is required by federal law that breast implant manufacturers track all of their implants with a serial number. Following your breast implant surgery, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali will report your breast implant serial number(s) to their manufacturer, along with your personal contact information, the date of your surgery, as well as contact information for his place of practice. All of this information will be maintained by the manufacturer in a confidential manner.

On the day of your breast implant surgery, Oakland County patients will be asked to participate in the tracking program set in place by your breast implant manufacturer. This way, the manufacturer will be able to contact your in the event there is any updated information available regarding your breast implants.

Oakland County board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali and his staff will make sure the Device Tracking Form is accurately filled out and returned to your breast implant manufacturer.

Breast Implant Device Identification Cards

Following your breast implant surgery, Oakland County board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali will give you a card containing all pertinent information regarding your breast implants (such as the catalogue and serial number of your breast implants). Bring this card with you to all appointments with other doctors or healthcare providers to help them give your appropriate treatment and proper protection to your breast implants during medical procedures.

In the event your implants are replaced during a subsequent breast implant surgery, patients will be given a new Device Identification Card for their new implants.

Oakland County board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali will keep a copy of your Device Identification Card with your medical records.

Whenever your contact information changes, be sure to inform your breast implant manufacturer of such changes, such as mailing addresses, email addresses, etc. to be sure that you are able to accurately receive any information regarding your breast implants.
