Liposuction FAQs: (Part 3) Who Can Get Lipo
Who is a good liposuction candidate?
Anyone who has a difficult time removing areas of fat with diet or exercise is a good candidate for liposuction. Liposuction is not strictly speaking a weight loss method, but instead a means of removing a particularly stubborn pocket of fat.
Liposuction is the perfect shaping procedure for fat deposits that you just can’t seem to touch by adjusting your diet or exercise routine. And while weight loss is not the direct purpose of liposuction, the procedure usually does result in weight loss as part of the process. The best results of liposuction are produced in conjunction with a healthy regimen of nutrition and exercise.
The best liposuction results are seen in areas of the body where is a reasonable degree of muscle tone, areas with good skin elasticity, and where fat deposits are not excessive.
At what age can a patient have liposuction performed?
As long as you meet all physical requirements, a liposuction candidate can be as young as 15 years old. However, it is tremendously uncommon for patients to be under the age of 18. A minor undergoing liposuction surgery would require the consent of a parent or guardian.
That being said, the main consideration when performing liposuction is skin elasticity. As we get older, the elasticity of our skin diminishes. If Dr. Ali determines that your skin’s elasticity isn’t strong enough to mold into smaller contours, it is possible for him to recommend a different procedure to aid you in reaching your desired cosmetic goals.
Should I get liposuction before or after pregnancy?
Because liposuction works best on areas of good skin tone, so it is can sometimes be advantageous to have it done before pregnancy. However, Dr. Ali has successfully performed liposuction on hundreds of women who have already given birth with excellent results.
Many women do start to experience stubborn fat pockets until after pregnancy, so in these cases liposuction can help restore their pre-pregnancy body!
What happens if I gain weight after liposuction?
With liposuction, the fat cells are completely removed – so the contours of the body will be permanently improved. This means that if you do gain weight, your new contours and proportions should remain the same.
In other words, it is possible to gain weight after liposuction – but the weight will be distributed in other areas. This can, however, sometimes make the post-lipo contours a little less visible.
However, if you then lose the weight again, your contours should completely return their post-liposuction shape and proportions.
Are there any possible complications with liposuction?
Dr. Ali’s tumescent liposuction procedure is one of the safest surgeries you can undergo, resulting in minimal bruising and almost no side effects.
A recent study in Dermatologic Surgery Journal reported that 112 patients who underwent the tumescent procedure experienced no significant complications. Other clinical studies have also proven the efficacy and safety of tumescent liposuction surgery.
