Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

Your Breast Augmentation Consultation –

Before you make a final decision to get breast augmentation surgery, you need to do your homework. The first step in the process is a thorough consultation with a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon. Dr. Ali, a board certified Macomb County plastic surgeon has extensive experience in surgical breast augmentation, and has performed thousands of breast surgeries .

Breast Augmentation is a big decision. It is important to consider your reasons carefully. Breast augmentation is surgery is something wonderful you can do for yourself – so you love the body you’re in! Breast augmentation surgery should not be undertaken only to meet someone else’s expectations, or to measure up to often-unrealistic ideals set by magazines and television.

No matter what reason you have for considering breast augmentation surgery, your first step should be an in-depth consultation with a highly experienced board certified plastic surgeon. Macomb County board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali has extensive experience performing breast augmentation surgeries, and can help you make the right breast augmentation decision to fulfill your goals and meet your appearance expectations.

During the Breast Augmentation Consultation

During the consultation, you and Dr. Ali will discuss in detail the options available. The right size and shape breast implant to complement your body’s size and proportions will be discussed. He will even show you different size and shape implants so you can better understand what will work best to meet your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Ali will also offer his expert recommendations regarding implant type (silicone or saline), positioning of the implant with respect to the muscle (above or below), and the location and type of the incision.

Another consideration is that, while most women are able to breastfeed after augmentation surgery, some are not. If you plan to have more children, it may be wise to consider waiting to have your surgery until afterwards. The bonus for waiting is that any sagging as a result of either breastfeeding or the pregnancy can be corrected at the same time.

Discussing Cost of Breast Augmentation Surgery

Unless there is a medical necessity (such as reconstructive surgery following a mastectomy), insurance does not generally cover breast implants. However, financing options are available that will enable you to get the breast augmentation surgery you desire.

Certain types of implants (e.g. saline) can also be less expensive than other materials such as Memory Gel Silicone.

Breast Augmentation Sizing Consultation

Once you’ve decided to go ahead with the surgery, you will need to make a sizing appointment that will take place a few weeks prior to the surgery date. At that appointment, you will finalize decisions.

You will be able to “try on” different size and shape of implants, and Dr. Ali will take final measurements.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

During your breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Ali will discuss where the surgery will be performed, and if you will be able to go home the same day. He will also discuss the anesthesia used for your  breast augmentation – which is typically done under general anesthesia, where you are asleep for the procedure.

To insert the breast implant, the surgeon will make a single incision in one of three places: in the crease under your breast (inframammary), under your arm (axillary), or around your nipple (periareolar). Then, your breast tissue is separated from the muscles and connective tissue of your chest, creating a pocket either behind or in front of the chest wall muscle. The implant will be inserted into this pocket, and will be carefully centered behind your nipple.

Saline implants are generally inserted while empty, and then filled with the sterile water solution once they are in place. Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel. Once the implant is in place, the incision is closed with sutures, and the incision site is bandaged with skin adhesive and surgical tape.

Following the surgery, you will spend some time in the recovery room, and then will be released to go home. You will need to have someone drive you, and it is advisable to have someone stay with you at least for the first night.

The 5 Types of Breast Surgery

The 5 Types of Breast Surgery

Loving her body helps a woman feel sexy and confident, whether she is curvy, lean or somewhere in between. And a woman’s breasts may help her feel attractive (or self-conscience) depending on their size, shape, position and how well she feels they flatter or detract from her overall physical appearance.

Breast surgery, when performed by an experienced and skilled plastic surgeon, can help a woman feel good about her body, by enabling her to change the shape, size and even the position of her breasts. Today, breast surgery is considered a routine medical procedure that is not only safe, but also becoming more and more affordable, with financing options to help offset the cost.

In this article, Macomb County plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains the five types of breast surgery that a woman can elect to have, to improve her bust line.

Breast Reduction Surgery

Women with breasts that are too large for their body can experience serious health issues, from pain in the upper body, back and neck to posture problems that can become quite serious as they age. Due to its positive health impact, breast reduction surgery is becoming quite common, because it can help change the lives of women at any age so they can enjoy a more active lifestyle, free from pain.

Breast Lift Surgery

Over time, breasts of any size and shape will naturally begin to droop and lose their youthful appearance. Age, gravity, pregnancy, nursing and even heredity can cause the breasts to lose their elasticity and droop and sag.

Breast lift surgery can help restore and enhance the breast’s position and shape, and reduce the signs of aging. In addition to the breast being lifted and tightened, the procedure removes excess skin. The surgeon can also repositions the nipple higher on the breast for a perkier look.

Breast lift surgery can be performed with or without augmenting the breast with implants, if the patient would like the breasts to also appear fuller or larger.

Breast Augmentation Surgery (Implants)

Breast augmentation surgery is also referred to as breast implant surgery or breast enhancement surgery. In this procedure, the natural breast tissue is supplemented with inserts made from silicone or saline called implants.

Breast implant surgery can enhance the bust line of any women who feel their breasts are too small due to heredity, weight loss, or aging – all of which can impact a woman’s self-esteem.

Nipple Correction Surgery

Many women choose to have their nipples cosmetically corrected for a more pleasing appearance. Nipple Correction Surgery can solve a variety of nipple concerns from puffy, protruding, oversized or inverted nipples to altering the size and shape of the entire areola.

Nipple surgery can be performed alone – or along with additional breast surgery for enlargements, reductions, lifts or reconstruction.

Breast Reconstruction Surgery

For women who survived breast cancer, as well as women who have experienced physical chest trauma or burns, breast reconstruction surgery can help restore a better quality of life and renew their self-esteem.

Technological advances have given surgeons like Dr. Ali the ability to not only restore a patient’s beautiful female shape but to also preserve breast sensitivity which allows her to enjoy more natural sexuality.

And, with the 1998 passing of the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act, all health insurance plans are required by law to cover breast reconstruction surgery – including breast implants – for patients who endured a mastectomy or lumpectomy due to cancer and other diseases.

Best Macomb County Area Breast Surgery

Undoubtedly, women feel more confident, sexy and healthier when they feel good about their bodies. Those who make the choice to have breast surgery – whether it’s a reduction, reconstruction, augmentation, or breast lift – have said they feel amazing and more comfortable with their new shape.

Breast Surgery Statistics Show Increase in All Procedures

Breast Surgery Statistics –

If you’re “on the fence” about considering breast surgery – including breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction – take a look at the most recent statistics! Data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) shows that thousands more people opt for breasts surgery year.

Of the nearly 1.8 million cosmetic surgeries performed in 2017, the number one surgery was breast augmentation – with more than 300,000 performed. This represents and increase of 3 percent over 2016.

According to the ASPS President David H. Song, MD, MBA, FACS, “… traditional facial procedures and breast augmentations are still among the most popular … patients have more options than ever, and working closely with their surgeon, they’re able to focus on specific target areas of the body to achieve the look they desire.”

Breast Lift Surgery Statistics

Since 2000, ASPS statistics show that Breast Lifts Surgery increased by 90 percent from the year 2000 to 2017. Statistics reveal that 52,836 breast lift surgeries were performed in the US in 2000, compared to 99,614 breast lifts in 2015! In fact, breast lift surgery showed the most overall growth of any plastic surgery during that time period.

Breast Augmentation Surgery Statistics

Of the almost 2 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2015 and 2016 and 2017, the number one was breast augmentation surgery every year. 279,143 breast augmentation surgeries were performed in the US in 2015, 291, 367 were performed in 2016; and 300,378 were performed in 2017 – for a full 34 percent increase from the year 2000.

Breast Reduction Surgery Statistics

There were 68,106 aesthetic breast reduction surgeries performed in the United States in 2015. And, for the first time, men accounted for more than 40 percent of these aesthetic breast reduction surgeries.

A total of 27,456 breast reduction surgeries were performed on men in 2015, representing a 35 percent growth since 2000.

Said the President of the ASPS, “As plastic surgery is becoming more common and accepted in men, we’re seeing more of them undergo procedures to tighten and tone problem areas, like the breasts.”

He added, “This procedure is often done in younger men who face genetic challenges with the size and shape of their breasts, and when appropriate, surgery can make a big difference in their lives.”

Breast Reconstruction Surgery Statistics

For the past several years the ASPS has spearheaded a national Breast Reconstruction Awareness Campaign to educate and empower women to make informed decisions following breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy. And, as more breast cancer patients become aware of breast reconstruction surgery options, the number of breast reconstruction surgeries continues to increase dramatically.

In 2015 breast reconstruction surgeries increased to more than 106,300, which represents a remarkable 35 percent since 2000.

“That’s encouraging, and we hope to continue to get the word out to all women who are facing breast cancer, so they will be well aware of all their reconstructive options from the outset of diagnosis,” said the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Breast Implants

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Breast Implants

1. Breast implants have been around since the 1960s!

Is that why all of those mid-century beauties on Mad Men have such fantastic curves? Dow Corning Corporation, developed the first silicone breast implants in 1962.

The first recipient of breast implants, Timmie Jean Lindsey, is now over 80 years old – and she still has her original implants!
.

2. Early breast implants weren’t tested.

The Food and Drug Administration did not require the makers of breast implants to undergo safety testing until 1991.

Over 1,000,000 women had undergone breast implant surgery before the FDA began to require proof of their safety in 1991.  While there were some complications caused by these untested breast implants, manufacturers of today’s breast implants undergo rigorous testing and FDA approval procedures.

As a result, today’s breast implants are as safe as they are beautiful.
.

2. Silicone breast implants were once only used for medical purposes.

Between the years 1992 and 2006, silicone breast implants were only allowed to be implanted in women after a mastectomy, or in women who needed to fix a previously implanted broken implant.

After huge improvements in breast implant technology – and rigorous safety testing – silicone breast implants were approved for use in the USA in 2006. These new generations of FDA approved silicone breast implants are exceptionally natural looking and feeling, as well as extremely safe.
.

3. Saline vs. Silicone is like Coke vs. Pepsi.

There are two types of breast implant filler: saline and silicone. Each has their distinct advantages and – like Coke and Pepsi drinkers – people have their own personal reasons for choosing a favorite.

Silicone breast implants tend to look and feel more real and natural – especially the latest technologies in MemoryShape breast implants which we use in our plastic surgery practice.

However, some women prefer saline because they can be filled more, or depleted a little, so a patient has the option of changing their breast implant size.  Typically, saline implants are also less expensive – starting in our office at a total low cost of only $5,000 including all surgical expenses!
.

4. It can be too early – but it’s never too late – for breast implants!

The FDA recommends that you have to be 22 years old to get breast implants – but most people don’t realize that there is no upper age limit!

In cases where an unscrupulous surgeon puts silicone breast implants in an “under-aged” patient, there can be complications affecting the woman’s growth – and the warranty on the implants may also be waived.

However, as long as a woman is in good health with sufficient, healthy skin, even senior citizens can get breast implants.

Marie Jolstad, a healthy 84 year old widow with 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, is believed to be the oldest woman to ever get breast implants.
.

5. Surgeons in the U.S. perform the most breast implant surgeries.

Breast augmentation surgery is the number one most popular cosmetic surgery in the United States. Approximately 300,000 breast augmentations were performed in 2017 in the USA. And the number of breast implants is currently growing at a rate of 3% a year.

This growth is attributable to the fact that breast implants are safer, more natural looking and more affordable than ever before!

Brazil comes in second place for the most breast implant surgeries performed annually. And Mexico hits the list in third place.

Fat Grafting vs. Breast Implants for Breast Augmentation

Fat Grafting vs. Breast Implants for Breast Augmentation

For fifty years breast augmentation surgery has been performed in the United States using breast implants. And as breast implant technology and surgical techniques have improved over 5 decades, women with breast implants now universally report a satisfaction rate of 98 to 99%!

However, in addition to traditional breast augmentation, recent developments in fat grafting technology have presented another option for breast augmentation. During fat grafting, a surgeon uses your own body fat to increase your bust size.

So when it comes to breast augmentation, what is better: fat grafting or breast implants?

In this article Detroit area board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains the differences between fat grafting and breast implants – and the pros and cons of both techniques.

The Pros & Cons of Fat Grafting for Breast Augmentation

Fat grafting uses your own body’s fat to enlarge the breast. Since it is your body’s own tissue, there’s no risk for allergic reactions – and your breasts will look and feel 100% natural.

Additionally, there are virtually no scars associated with fat injections.  Nor is there a risk of rippling. And, since fat is used rather than an implant, there is no possibility of a rupture.

However, with fat grafting there is risks of developing calcification in the breasts. Some doctors are concerned that these deposits can interfere with breast cancer screenings. There is also a risk of lumps and nodules in the breasts – and indents or divots at the location where the fat was harvested.

Generally, the cost of fat grafting is also more than that of breast implants, making grafting cost prohibitive for some patients.

However the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE for most breast augmentation patients is in the SIZE that is achievable. Fat grafting cannot accomplish the same large increase in size as breast implants. Women who are seeking a large change in breast or cup size often are not able to achieve their desired results with fat grafting.

The Pros & Cons of Implants for Breast Augmentation

The biggest advantage to breast implants is that they produce a large and very reliable, predictable and consistent change in breast size. In other words, you select the implant size and shape that you want – and that is exactly what you get.

And because today’s generation of silicone implants are more natural-feeling than ever, there is virtually no difference in how they feel from natural breast tissue or grafted fat.

Also, breast implants do not require additional surgery on other parts of the body – which fat grafting requires in order to “harvest” the fat. Further, in the event a women changes her mind about breast size, implants can be removed – whereas fat becomes permanent once it is injected.

And, as an additionally important factor for many women, the cost of breast augmentation with implants is much less than that of fat grafting.

There are some cons of breast augmentation using implants. Primarily, implants carry a small risk of rupture. And breast implants do not “last forever” which means they may need to be changed at some time over the course of the patient’s lifespan.

Breast implants also have a small risk of developing “capsular contracture” – which is scar tissue forming around the implant. Studies differ on the percentage of women experiencing this complication, but a 2017 study of 496 breast implant patients in the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found that only 1.3% of the women experienced this.

Finally, breast implants do require incisions, which means that scars for placement are more visible than when compared to fat injections. And although silicone is thought to be extremely safe, obviously nothing is as safe as using your own body fat.

Fat Grafting vs. Breast Implants: The Bottom Line

While fat grafting may be more natural, it simply cannot achieve the larger size and full, perfect shape of breast implants. As a result, the vast majority of patients with whom Dr. Ali consults opt for breast implants.

If you are going to undergo the time and expense of breast augmentation surgery, you want to get the “perfect breasts” you desire – and in most cases only implants can achieve these results.

Why Today’s Breast Augmentation Surgery is Better

Why Today’s Breast Augmentation Surgery is Better

It has been more than fifty years since the first breast augmentation surgery was performed, using silicone implants. Today, breast augmentation surgery is the number one most popular cosmetic surgery in the United States – with 300,000 breast augmentations performed in 2017 alone. This represents a 3% increase over 2016.

One of the reasons breast implant surgery continues to grow in popularity is the improvements made in both the implant materials and the surgical procedures over the last several years.

In this article we share 3 reasons why today’s breast augmentation surgery is better, making it easier than ever before to get the breasts you have always wanted.

While there are lots of different factors that go into getting the beautiful results you want, these three benefits of modern breast augmentation surgery make it

New Breast Augmentation Materials are More Natural

Substantial improvements have been made recently in breast implant technologies – making them both more natural and more durable than ever before.

In 2017, silicone breast implants were used in 87% of all breast augmentation surgeries. While saline implants accounted for 13% of all breast augmentations

The new generation of so-called “gummy bear” breast implants are shaped like a teardrop. The sloped shape – with more fullness at the bottom – is virtually indistinguishable from the contours of a natural breasts.

Made from High-strength cohesive (HSC) silicone gel, these newer implants remain soft and natural-feeling to the touch – just like real breasts.

They even “squish” when pressed against another person – when hugging or being intimate rather than feeling hard like previous breast implants.

New Breast Implant Materials are Sturdier & More Stable

High-strength cohesive (HSC) silicone gel is also breakthrough technology in breast implants because it is the strongest type of silicone on the market. This means that the breast implants far sturdier than they were before, and less prone to breakage or leakage.

When earlier versions of silicone breast implants were damaged the clear gel inside would slowly create leak into the body. Newer silicone implants holds their shape and do not leak if ruptured.

New Breast Augmentation Surgical Techniques are Better

Breast surgeons now have a much better and  more advanced understanding of how to minimize complications from breast augmentation surgery.

With new advances in surgical techniques there is lower risk of infection, capsule contracture, rippling and other complications.

For example, the Keller funnel now allows the surgeon to “fold and slip” the silicone implant into place (kind of like a pastry bag) through a smaller incision. Not only does this procedure minimize scarring, but it also reduces the risk of infection.

How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost? (Part 1)

How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost? (Part 1)

Asking how much breast augmentation costs is kind of like asking how much it costs to go out to dinner. The quality of the ingredients and the skill and training of the chef will affect how much you pay for your meal.

Similarly, different types of implants and different levels of breast surgeon experience will affect the total cost of having breast implant surgery.

And while you may be happy to grab McDonald’s for dinner to save a few bucks, breast implants are not something on which you want to cut corners.

The better the quality of the implants and the surgeon, the better your breasts will look, the longer they will last. And a better surgeon also means a lower risk of complications such as infection, pain and scarring.

In this two part article we look at the factors that affect breast implant prices.

Breast Augmentation Materials: Comparing Apples to Oranges

To begin with breast implants can be filled with either saline or silicone. Saline implants are typically one to two thousand dollars cheaper than silicone breast implants.

However, saline implants are generally less popular than silicone implants because they typically do not feel as “natural”.

In the United States the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved five silicone gel-filled breast implants. These also have different “features” that may affect price.

Breast Augmentation Surgeons: Rembrandts vs. Bad Artists

A diner cooked by Emeril or Wolfgang Puck is going to cost more than a meal made by a line cook at a diner – but there is a huge difference in quality.

A more experienced and qualified plastic surgeon is going to be bit more expensive than someone without extensive credentials – but the small added cost is more than worth it to achieve beautiful results without any complications.

Selecting a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon like Dr. Ali who performs hundreds of breast augmentations each year ensures you will have beautiful breasts for years to come. Going to an unskilled surgeon, or someone who isn’t board certified, can result in “plastic surgery disasters” such as lumpy, irregular breasts, infections, external and internal scarring

Total Cost of Breast Implants

At AMAE Plastic Surgery, our prices for saline breast implants begin as low as $5000 complete (including implants, surgeon’s fee, anesthesia and surgical facility). Prices can then go from $5000 to $10,000 depending on the type of implant chosen, as well as the type of surgery, type of incision, placement of the implants (above or below muscle.)

However, only during a consultation with a qualified board certified breast augmentation surgeon will you be able to figure out which type of implant and augmentation procedure is best for you specifically, and how much it will cost.

Dr. Ali offers a no-pressure, no-obligation consultation and examination to help you determine which breast augmentation is right for you, as well as a sense of the financial investment you need to make.

Our office staff can then help you budget, offer financing options if needed and – in cases of medical need – submit claims for your breast augmentation to your insurer.

But I Thought Breast Augmentation was Cheaper!

You may have seen figures floating around on the Internet that say things like: “The average cost of breast augmentation surgery is $3,718, according to 2017 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.”

This is a very misleading figure, because this low figures does not include anesthesia, use of the operating room, and other necessary expenses. Since you obviously cannot undergo a breast implant procedure without anesthesia or an operating room – the figures you see on the internet are not the total cost.

Also, where you live affects the “cost of living” – including the cost of breast augmentation surgery. Just like houses, breast implants are more expensive in Malibu, California than they are in Mobile, Alabama. So when you see “national averages” they include both the high and low end of the spectrum.

Michigan is right about “in the middle” of the national cost scale for breast augmentation – while still offering the same celebrity-quality surgical procedures as those found in Hollywood & Beverly Hills.

Will Insurance Cover My Breast Augmentation Surgery?

In cases of “medical necessity” insurance generally will cover breast augmentation surgery. And breast reconstruction procedures after a mastectomy or lumpectomy must be covered by your health insurance plan – according to The Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998.

However, when surgery is purely an elective cosmetic procedure, health insurance typically does not cover the cost of the surgery.

Is Financing Available for Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Yes! A variety of financing options are available for those situations where insurance does not cover breast augmentation.

We work with four major medical financing companies to help you afford your breast augmentation surgery.

Breast Augmentation Testimonial & Case Study

Breast Augmentation Testimonial & Case Study –

Breast Augmentation Case Study

In April of this year (2018) Shannon Lynn M. came from Southgate to our Birmingham, MI plastic surgery office in search of help with a “botched” breast augmentation that was performed 4 years ago by another doctor.

As with many of our patients, Shannon was referred to us by a physician, who knew of Dr. Ali’s stellar reputation and excellent results in breast augmentation surgery and revision.

Unfortunately, Shannon had undergone breast augmentation surgery in 2014 at the hands of doctors who were NOT board certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Ali. Shannon had heard this doctor make claims on a radio advertisement, and like many women she fell for his “hype”.

Shannon’s unfortunate results highlight the extreme importance of checking your plastic surgeon’s credentials, and making sure they have acheived beautiful breast augmentation results in hundreds of surgeries.

Shannon’s first surgeon had implanted breast implants that were too large for her frame. Additionally, he had placed them improperly in her chest. Implants that are too large and/or improperly placed can lead to pain as well as deformity. And that is what happened to Shannon.

When she returned to the same doctor, as well as a second doctor, both misdiagnosed her discomfort as “capsular contracture.” Rather than admit their mistake, Shannon was quoted a fee of an additional $9000 to correct the problem…which she could not afford.

After suffering with these improperly implanted breasts, Shannon was referred to us in April 2018. In June of 2018 Dr. Ali performed a revision breast augmentation, in which he was able to correct the “botched” procedure and reposition the breasts.

Two months later, Shannon has completely healed and she is thrilled with the look, feel and comfort of her breast augmentation revision by Dr. Ali.  We are so glad that Shannon found us, and we are as thrilled as she is with the final results!

Breast Augmentation Testimonial

Amazing, words can not describe the gratitude I have for Dr. Ali and his staff!

I had a breast augmentation back in 2014, by one of those big shots that put their names all over the radio… Worst mistake of my life! I was botched, implants bigger than I wanted were put in, the doctor pretty much shoved them into my chest. It was a horrible surgery and experience! A month goes by, and my implants raised even higher, where the top of my implants were at my collar bone, and they were completely different looking. This doctor blamed me for what happened, and told me I had capsular contraction. Now given that I spent 8k on the surgery, they wanted an additional 9k for the surgery to correct it, plus I paid 100 dollars every 2 weeks to get steroids and a laser treatment that was unnecessary.

Knowing I couldn’t afford the surgery, about one year later I visited another big named doctor that was advertised everywhere. Who belittled me for the chest that I had and how I would almost have to go down 200cc (I’m a 425cc) and I would have to have a surgery for capsular contraction as well.

These Doctors are not plastic surgeons come to find out! One is an ear, throat, and nose doctor, and the other being a doctor of general medicine. Who just took classes online to be certified to do cosmetic surgery. I wish I would have known, so educate yourselves and do your homework before having any kind of surgery.

From someone who has had an awful surgery/experience, I am telling you Doctor Ali is the best!

I saw Dr. Ali in April of 2018 (4 years with awful implants), from the moment I walked into his office I was very comfortable and knew I found an amazing doctor. When I had my consolation with him, he knew right away it wasn’t capsular contraction, but a botched surgery. The fact that he sympathized with what I have had been through, and didn’t just try to make it just about the money was comforting. He told me it was going to be a challenge but he would make them look as good as he possibly could.

I had my surgery this previous June, and he did everything and beyond that he told me! I was able to keep my original implants instead of buying new ones, and he made them look so natural and perfect in my eyes! The hospital he works out of was amazing, the staff who works alongside him, and his knowledge and bedside manner is what we all want when undergoing a surgery! I am beyond grateful with the outcome and experience!
