Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery (Part One)

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery (Part 1)

How long is the recovery from a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Everybody heals differently. Ability to heal can depend upon age, overall health, genetics and how extensive your procedure was.

Brazilian Butt Lift patients generally take anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks off from work to recover.

Birmingham Double Board Certified plastic surgeon generally recommends that patients avoid sitting directly on their buttocks for at least two weeks. After that, sitting on a “boppy” type pillow, is recommended to put pressure on the thighs instead of the butt.

Patients will generally be advised to wear a compression garment for up to six weeks after their Brazilian Butt Lift to decrease bruising and swelling and to help loose skin retract.

The general swelling will generally improve substantially after two weeks. It may take four to eight weeks to improve completely, and the underlying inflammation from the liposuction can last several more months.

Activity After a Brazilian Butt Lift

It is generally recommended that strenuous exercise be avoided for about a month to six weeks. This enables the newly transferred fat cells an opportunity to survive long-term.  Light aerobic activity and weight training can typically be resumes few weeks after surgery, with your Dr.’s permission.

However, movements like gentle stretching and walking can assist in the healing process and should typically begin the day after your procedure. Dr. Ali will provide you with specific after care instructions.

Generally patients are also advised to sleep on their sides or their stomach during the first couple weeks.

It is always important to follow your doctor’s specific instructions for after care to achieve the best results.

Will I have a scar from a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Brazilian Butt Lifts involve harvesting fat via liposuction using small tubes (“cannulas”) that are inserted into the skin. The incision needed for these cannulas are less than a centimeter wide – so you will be left with very tiny scars.

For the first few months after a Brazilian Butt Lift the scars will be red and possibly raised and/or firm. But over time the scar will becomes soft, pale, flat, and barely noticeable.

However, if you are prone to hypertrophic scars or keloids, or these scars run in y our family, you should inform your doctor before your Brazilian Butt Lift.

Always use sunscreen, and avoid any prolonged exposure to the sun for at least two months, as UV rays can darken scars’ appearance. You may also ask your doctor about using a scar lightening cream, or laser treatments, to further minimize the appearance.
