When you Can (and Cant) Get a Mommy Makeover
Attempting a mommy makeover too soon after giving birth is simply not be safe – for a few reasons.
First, remember that pregnancy and childbirth put immense stress and strain on your body. A reputable board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali will require you to wait at least six months after giving birth before having invasive plastic surgery. This gives your abdominal tissue a chance to fully heal and recover before surgery.
Additionally, nursing mothers must wait until they are done breastfeeding to have a tummy tuck – so that you baby does not ingest anesthetic and pain meds from breastmilk. And, there will also be lifting restrictions for 2 to 6 weeks after surgery – making recovery while caring for a baby difficult.
There’s More than One Type of Tummy Tuck
The more fat a woman has gained during pregnancy (or pregnancies), the more loose skin and damaged muscles she is likely to have in need of surgical resection during a tummy tuck.

Pregnancy Hormones & Mommy Makeovers
It’s very common for pregnancy hormones to cause a woman’s body to develop new deposits of fat in strange new places. And, unfortunately, this fat can be very stubborn and not respond to diet, exercise or conventional weight loss methods. Even mommies who return to their pre-baby weight may still discover that she has a new “muffin top” or “paunch” that won’t go away.
This is where liposuction saves the day – by permanently removing the fat cells from these areas!
Mommy Makeovers Can Fix “Down There” too!
Sagging breasts from nursing are well known. But women often don’t discuss the vaginal looseness, or stretched out labia caused by labor and delivery. In addition to breast lifts, there are also surgical procedures (like labiaplasty) and nonsurgical treatments (like Viveve vaginal rejuvenation) that can makeover your intimate areas after childbirth! There’s no reason you can’t be a mommy during the day – but as sexy as ever in the evening!
