How Breast Enhancement (Augmentation) is Performed
Breast enhancement (augmentation) is performed under general anesthesia – so you do not feel anything during the procedure. Breast enhancement surgery typically only takes from 1 1/2 to 2 hours – and patients are able to go home after the procedure. Different techniques, including the use of breast implants, are used to obtain the desired result. Dr. Ali will carefully explain which techniques and procedures will give you the best results for your situation.
The incision is small and is placed in an inconspicuous area: under the arm, the lower half of the areola or underneath the breast. The breast implant is either placed behind the muscle or in front of it. To ensure a successful outcome it is imperative to choose the right implant size. Dr. Ali will help you choose the best size breast implant for your size, frame and desired results.
We inject long term local anesthetic at the end of the breast enhancement procedure, which makes recovery almost completely painless. Some of our patients have even gone out for dinner or a movie the same day, following their breast implant or enhancement surgery.
What to Expect After Breast Enhancement or Breast Implant Surgery
During the first few days after breast enhancement surgery you will feel some discomfort but it is easily manageable with pain medication. You will be instructed to wear a sport style bra that zips or fastens in the front for approximately 6 weeks. Most of the swelling will subside after the first 2 weeks. Patients are advised not to engage in any strenuous activity and to avoid lifting anything heavier than 5 lbs.
