4 Ways to Get Thinner Thighs: Fat Loss Without Diet or Exercise (Part 1)

4 Ways to Get Thinner Thighs: Fat Loss Without Diet or Exercise (Part 1)

Frustratingly, the number of fat cells in our bodies becomes fixed in our teenage years and losing or gaining weight does not increase or decrease this number of fat cells. As you gain weight, the fat cells on your body will get bigger – and with dieting and weight loss, the cells may get smaller but the number of fat cells stays the same.

This is why diet and exercise are often powerless to cause fat loss in a woman’s thighs. And, to make matters worse, gravity, fluctuations in weight, and age-related loss of muscle mass and skin elasticity can combine to result in loose saggy skin, or a loss of tone in the thigh area.

Fortunately, Dr. Ali offers the newest, most advanced non-invasive, minimally-invasive and surgical fat loss treatments for getting thinner, tighter, more toned thighs! In this 2 part article we discuss the top 4 fat loss treatments for improving the look and feel of your thighs.

  1. Non-Invasive CoolSculpting Fat Loss for Thinner Thighs

Through CoolSculpting, Detroit-area patients are able to get thinner thighs by physically removing fat from the treatment area itself. A single CoolSculpting fat loss treatment is enough to yield results of up to 25% thinner thighs.

The first step towards thinner thighs with CoolSculpting involves applying a handheld applicator to the treatment area, which uses mild suction to pull bulges of fat into itself. The applicator then lowers the temperature of the treatment area to freezing, causing the fat cells to be permanently destroyed.

Then, through the body’s natural elimination process, the dead fat cells are removed from the body. Since this is a gradual process, it typically takes patients several weeks to notice having significantly thinner thighs. But since the body cannot produce new fat cells, once they’re destroyed, they are gone for good.

For about 5 to 6 months after CoolSculpting fat loss treatment, the body will continue to eliminate dead fat cells, continuously providing Detroit area patients with thinner and thinner thighs.

The best way to maintain results from CoolSculpting is to live a healthy lifestyle and to avoid substantial weight gain. But since CoolSculpting is a permanent procedure, even if additional weight gain does occur, it will not be gained in the treatment area. This means that patients who visit AMAE Med Spa for CoolSculpting can walk away from their procedure with permanently thinner thighs.

2. Minimally-Invasive Liposuction Fat Loss for Thinner Thighs

An alternative means of attaining thinner thighs is through liposuction. Unlike CoolSculpting, which is non-invasive, liposuction is a surgical fat loss procedure.

Most instances of liposuction surgery are performed under local anesthesia. The procedure requires our Detroit area patients to receive a small incision (no larger than 3mm), but patients nonetheless do not require stitches, and are able to attain noticeably thinner thighs without practically any scarring.

While CoolSculpting patients get thinner thighs through the body’s natural elimination process, during liposuction, fat cells are physically sucked out of the body. As a result, liposuction patients typically only require one single procedure to get noticeably thinner thighs.

While there is some downtime that comes along with getting thinner thighs through liposuction, patients are able to return home as early as a half hour after treatment. Additionally, patients usually only have to wait 2 to 7 days before resuming their normal daily routine. And while liposuction patients may experience some mild pain while recovering, any such discomfort is easily treatable with medication, and will gradually begin to dissipate over a 2 to 8 week period.

And while patients may experience some swelling after getting liposuction for thinner thighs, it should go down after 4 – 6 weeks. Once this occurs, results will immediately become visible, with patients able to notice having significantly thinner thighs without having to wait for the body to eliminate destroyed fat cells.

CoolSculpting and liposuction are both effective fat loss treatments to get thinner thighs, each with their own unique benefits. CoolSculpting is non-invasive and requires less downtime than liposuction, while liposuction requires fewer treatments and produces more immediately visible fat loss results. At AMAE Plastic Surgery & Med Spa in the Detroit area, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali helps all of his patients select a fat loss treatment plan that best suits their needs.

Customizing Your Mommy Makeover

Customizing Your Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover typically consists of three procedures:

  • A tummy tuck to restore abdominal flatness and tightness,
  • A breast lift and/or breast implants to raise sagging breasts and restore lost breast tissue; and;
  • Liposuction to remove unwanted fat and contour the body.

However, every Mom’s post pregnancy body issues are different! At our Oakland County cosmetic surgery practice we customize each Mommy Makeover to include the specific procedures you need to get a body that looks as great (or even better!) than it did before pregnancy.

Take a look at just a few of the Mommy Makeover options we offer. Then schedule a consultation in our Oakland County office to discuss a customized Mommy Mkeover that will give you the body that you love.

Mommy Makeover: Breast Lifts and/or Breast Implants

Many moms, especially those who have breastfed their babies, lose breast volume and/or experience drooping of the breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women who have had multiple children generally notice even more dramatic breast sagging.

A breast lift tightens the breast skin, lifting up the breasts for a perkier, more youthful chest.  For many women, a breast lift alone is sufficient to restore the pre-pregnancy appearance of the chest.

However, other women may experience a loss of breast tissue after childbirth. For these Mommy Makeover candidates, breast implants can be used to add volume, firmness and shape. It is also an opportunity for women who have always wanted larger breasts to go up a size or two or three!

Mommy Makeover: Types of Tummy Tucks

There are a variety of different tummy tuck procedures – including a full tummy tuck, a partial tummy tuck (dermolipectomy) an endoscopic tummy tuck, and even a “mini-tummy tuck”. Which tummy tuck procedure will be best for a woman will depend upon whether she only has loose or excess skin, just poor abdominal muscle tone, or a combination of both.

Endoscopic abdominoplasty is performed on people having weakened abdominal muscles, and excess abdominal fat, but who still have tight abdominal skin.

Dermolipectomy, is a tummy tuck in which excess skin and fat is removed and the belly button is repositioned. However, there is no muscle tightening.

A “mini-tummy tuck” also removes excess skin and fat, but does not tighten muscles, and is used when the navel does not need to be repositioned.

Full Abdominoplasty is the most extensive type of tummy tuck surgery. It is appropriate for women with very lax muscles, as well as larger amounts of excess loose skin.

Customizing Your Mommy Makeover

When you schedule a Mommy Makeover Consultation at our cosmetic surgery center, we will help you decide which procedures are right for you. Dr. Ali will listen to your appearance goals, answer your questions and thoroughly examine your skin and muscles to determine which Mommy Makeover procedures are right for you.

Busy mothers love a Mommy Makeover, because it’s “one and done” – and the recovery time for multiple procedures is condensed into one single timeframe. And “bundling” multiple cosmetic procedures into one single “Mommy Makeover” will save you a great deal of money (and time!) over scheduling each procedure separately on different days.

LipoSuction FAQs: (Part 1) Getting Started

Liposuction FAQs: (Part 1) Getting Started

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is the process by which excess fat is surgically removed through a cannula, a narrow surgical instrument resembling a straw. The cannula -which is attached to a liposuction machine- is inserted into the skin’s fat layer, and is then manipulated to remove unwanted deposits of fat.

Once the cannulas are inserted, your doctor will make a tiny incision in the surrounding area of treatment. The cannula is then inserted through the incision point and into the layer in fat. With a simple back-and-forth movement, the fat is smoothly removed from the treatment area. This technique allows for minimal bruising and bleeding and leaves you looking and feeling beautiful.

Can liposuction treat other medical conditions?

In addition to fat loss, there are many medical-related applications to liposuction. Liposuction can be applied to non-cosmetic medical conditions, such as non-cosmetic accumulation of fat, including gynecomastia (the enlargement of male breasts), and lipomas (benign fatty tumors). Liposuction can also be used to treat excessive sweating.

Is liposuction safe?

Liposuction is an incredibly safe, minimally invasive procedure that uses a local anesthetic. In Dr. Ali’s career, every single liposuction procedure he has performed has been 100% safe and successful.

Minor side effects that may accompany liposuction include minimal swelling and bruising, and in some cases occasional soreness or numbness. These side effects are, however, all temporary, and in almost all cases are resolved within the first few days following the liposuction procedure.

How much does liposuction cost?

There are many factors that are taken into account when quoting liposuction costs. The degree of difficulty, the amount of fat to be removed, and the number of areas to be treated must all be assessed prior to liposuction, before you can be given a specific quote.

We offer very competitive liposuction rates, and we will explain your costs “up front” very clearly. Keep in mind that at the end of the day liposuction is a surgery, and therefore it is not something you want to “cut corners” on.

Liposuction is permanent and the results will last a lifetime – so you do not want to trust your body to someone who is unskilled, inexperienced or “cut rate.” Investing a little more in a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali – who has performed hundreds of successful liposuctions with excellent results – is the best way to ensure beautiful results without complications.

We also offer easy and convenient financing options, so you can afford to get the liposuction you want, right away!

Liposuction FAQs: (Part 2) The Procedure

Liposuction FAQs: (Part 2) The Procedure

How is tumescent liposuction performed?

Before the tumescent liposuction procedure begins, the treatment area is injected with two solutions: diluted lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic, and diluted epinephrine, which prevents blood loss by shrinking its capillaries.

How long does liposuction take?

Most liposuction sessions are between 45 minutes and 2 ½ hours. The length of the procedure will depend upon the size of the area to be treated, the number of areas to be treated and the amount of fat to be removed.

Does liposuction hurt?

Most liposuction patients report negligible discomfort during liposuction surgery. The process begins with an injection of a local anesthetic, which will take effect within 15 minutes to a half hour.

During that period, patients occasionally experience a slight pinching sensation, but once the anesthetic has set in, patients usually experience no pain whatsoever.

The lidocaine continues to work for 12 to 24 hours after your liposuction surgery is complete, which will leave you free from discomfort and pain. Almost none of Dr. Ali’s patients require medication for pain after their liposuction surgery. If necessary, however, Dr. Ali will make pain medication available to you, either by prescription or over-the-counter.

How many areas can be done during liposuction?

A single liposuction procedure can usually result in the safe treatment of three to four areas of fat deposits. The majority of Dr. Ali’s patients only require a single surgery to treat all desired areas.

If an additional procedure is required, it can be performed as early as 48 hours after the first procedure.

How much fat is typically removed during liposuction?

A successful liposuction surgery removes enough fat to give you a natural-looking, proportionate result. Everyone’s body is different, so specific results vary from case to case. After all, liposuction is not about removing as much fat as is physically possible, but instead to get rid of just the right amount in the desired area. It could be as little as a pound, or as many as ten.

In a recent study reported in the Dermatologic Surgery Journal, 112 patients who underwent tumescent liposuction had an average of two quarts of fat removed.

The safe limit for one surgery is five liters (about 11 pounds). But more typically it is not the amount of fat that limits the surgery but how many areas can be safely done during a single surgery.

What will I feel like after liposuction?

The lidocaine will remain applied for 12 to 24 hours after your liposuction surgery, keeping your perfectly comfortable and free of pain. After your liposuction surgery, you will remain alert and nausea-free, avoiding the grogginess that is associated with general anesthesia. You’ll be able to simply stroll right out of the surgery center, leaving you free to be driven home by a friend or loved one and to relax for the rest of the day.

The lion’s share of Dr. Ali’s patients don’t require any kind of post-surgery pain medication. However, if any mild pain does persist, Dr. Ali will gladly prescribe you any number of over-the-counter or prescription pain management medications.

A week after your surgery, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment with you to inspect your incisions and make sure your healing process is healthy and comfortable.

Liposuction FAQs: (Part 3) Who Can Get Lipo

Liposuction FAQs: (Part 3) Who Can Get Lipo

Who is a good liposuction candidate?

Anyone who has a difficult time removing areas of fat with diet or exercise is a good candidate for liposuction. Liposuction is not strictly speaking a weight loss method, but instead a means of removing a particularly stubborn pocket of fat.

Liposuction is the perfect shaping procedure for fat deposits that you just can’t seem to touch by adjusting your diet or exercise routine. And while weight loss is not the direct purpose of liposuction, the procedure usually does result in weight loss as part of the process. The best results of liposuction are produced in conjunction with a healthy regimen of nutrition and exercise.

The best liposuction results are seen in areas of the body where is a reasonable degree of muscle tone, areas with good skin elasticity, and where fat deposits are not excessive.

At what age can a patient have liposuction performed?

As long as you meet all physical requirements, a liposuction candidate can be as young as 15 years old. However, it is tremendously uncommon for patients to be under the age of 18. A minor undergoing liposuction surgery would require the consent of a parent or guardian.

That being said, the main consideration when performing liposuction is skin elasticity. As we get older, the elasticity of our skin diminishes. If Dr. Ali determines that your skin’s elasticity isn’t strong enough to mold into smaller contours, it is possible for him to recommend a different procedure to aid you in reaching your desired cosmetic goals.

Should I get liposuction before or after pregnancy?

Because liposuction works best on areas of good skin tone, so it is can sometimes be advantageous to have it done before pregnancy. However, Dr. Ali has successfully performed liposuction on hundreds of women who have already given birth with excellent results.

Many women do start to experience stubborn fat pockets until after pregnancy, so in these cases liposuction can help restore their pre-pregnancy body!

What happens if I gain weight after liposuction?

With liposuction, the fat cells are completely removed – so the contours of the body will be permanently improved. This means that if you do gain weight, your new contours and proportions should remain the same.

In other words, it is possible to gain weight after liposuction – but the weight will be distributed in other areas. This can, however, sometimes make the post-lipo contours a little less visible.

However, if you then lose the weight again, your contours should completely return their post-liposuction shape and proportions.

Are there any possible complications with liposuction?

Dr. Ali’s tumescent liposuction procedure is one of the safest surgeries you can undergo, resulting in minimal bruising and almost no side effects.

A recent study in Dermatologic Surgery Journal reported that 112 patients who underwent the tumescent procedure experienced no significant complications. Other clinical studies have also proven the efficacy and safety of tumescent liposuction surgery.

Liposuction FAQs: (Part 4) The Results

Liposuction FAQs: (Part 4) The Results

When will I see liposuction results?

The majority of our patients begin to see results as early as one month after their liposuction surgery. After about 3 weeks, most of the swelling will have gone down, leaving you looking better than ever and ready to shimmy into your new swimsuit for that warm vacation. After about 6 months, you should see about 80% of your results, which will be verified during a 6th month checkup. After another 6-12 months, you’ll see the remaining 20% of your results.

Will I have scars from liposuction?

Every incision made by Dr. Ali will be no more than 3mm long. This is so small, there will be no need whatsoever for stitches following your procedure. In order to properly treat your target areas, he may make multiple incisions, but these are typically well-concealed and will heal without any degree of difficulty. In rare situations where an incision becomes more visible, Dr. Ali offers techniques to help reduce their appearance.

Will I need to wear a compression garment after liposuction?

Patients typically need to wear a compression garment full time for 10 days after getting liposuction. After that, they usually are instructed to wear the compression garment part time for an additional 10 days.

This is important to help reduce swelling, and return the body to a normal state. You will heal more rapidly and see your results more quickly if you wear a compression garment as instructed.

You will be provided with specific in instructions on when and how long you will need to wear your compression garment in your unique situation.

When can I resume activities after getting liposuction?

While it is recommended that you don’t drive for the first 24 hours following your liposuction surgery, you will be up and moving the day of the procedure. Within 48 hours, you should be able to return to work.

After a period of about three-days-to-a-week after liposuction, you should be able to resume light physical exercise. After about a week or two, most liposuction patients can return to their normal exercise routine.

In most cases, as long as you are able to get up and walk every hour while on the plane, liposuction patients my fly as early as two days after liposuction surgery.

Will I have loose skin, bumps or dimples after liposuction?

When your liposuction is performed by Dr. Ali or another skilled and experienced board certified plastic surgeon you will not have loose skin following liposuction. When liposuction is done properly, the skin re-drapes and retracts to conform to the underlying tissue.

Skin elasticity is a crucial component of a successful liposuction surgery, so prior to undergoing liposuction, Dr. Ali will subject you to a detailed examination to make sure your skin is elastic enough for you to be a liposuction candidate.

Additionally, it is also extremely unlikely for you to develop bumps or dimples after undergoing liposuction surgery. With an impeccable track record, Dr. Ali will ensure that you achieve a smooth, natural-looking result. If, after your examination, Dr. Ali notices any warning signs for irregularities (such as poor elasticity or skin tone), he will recommend alternative treatment options to you.

What is a liposuction touch-up, and will I need one?

As Dr. Ali is one of the preeminent surgeons in the field of liposuction, his revision rate is less than 1%. Dr. Ali takes great pride in getting the best liposuction results in the first attempt. With the skill to perform a successful surgery in the first time around and the experience to back it up, almost none of Dr. Ali’s liposuction patients require any kind of touch-up.

With liposuction in general, however, among less skilled providers, the revision rate is around 25%. Selecting a board certified plastic surgeon who is a skilled and experienced liposuction provider is the best way to reduce the risk of needing a subsequent liposuction revision.

What Are the Side Effects of Liposuction?

Oakland County Surgeon Explains
The Side Effects of Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is performed with local anesthetic and is minimally invasive, making it an incredibly safe procedure for healthy men and women. As with any medical procedure, there are always some risks and potential complications. But hiring a skilled board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali – who has performed thousands of liposuction procedures – ensures that greatly lessen any risks.

Dr. Ali has performed thousands of tumescent liposuction procedures without complications. A recent study recently published in Dermatologic Surgery Journal reported that 112 patients who underwent the tumescent procedure had an average of two quarts of fat removed each, with no significant complications.

Does liposuction hurt?

The very first step in the liposuction process is an injection of local anesthetic. Once the local anesthetic has set in (usually 15 minutes) patients report feeling no pain at all.

Because Dr. Ali uses a tiny incision, and very small cannula (tube) to very gently remove the fat, most patients report minimal discomfort after liposuction as well.

There will be swelling, and may be some bruising after the procedures. Dr. Ali will discuss pain relief options with you – but most patients can manage any discomfort with over the counter Tylenol.

Will I have loose skin after liposuction?

When liposuction is done properly, you do not have loose skin following liposuction. Elastic skin will re-drapes and retracts to conform to the underlying tissue.

Dr. Ali will perform a thorough examination to determine your skin elasticity before scheduling liposuction. He is careful to remove the right amount of fat, in the right proportions, to ensure that your skin will support the new contours following liposuction.

Does Liposuction Leave Scars?

Each incision Dr. Ali makes in tumescent liposuction is no more than 3mm in length – which prevents the need for stitches, and minimizes or eliminates scaring. Typically a surgeon will make multiple incisions in order to adequately treat your target areas from multiple angles to achieve a smooth contour. However, the tiny scars, if any, are usually well-hidden and heal without incident.

What happens if I gain weight after liposuction?

When liposuction is performed fat is removed permanently. So, when liposuction is done properly, the contours of the body should permanently be improved. If you do gain weight, obviously you will be bigger, but your new contours and proportions should remain pretty much the same as they were after liposuction. Weight gain may make these contours a little less visible – but if you subsequently lose the weight again, your contours go back to what they looked like after liposuction.

Liposuction FAQs

How is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction is the surgical removal of excess pockets of body fat with a thin, tube-like instrument called a cannula. The cannula is inserted into the fat layer of the skin, where it is gently moved back and forth to break up unwanted fatty deposits. The fat is then sucked out through the tube – sculpting bulging, fatty areas into smooth, attractive contours.

What is Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent liposuction is the newest technology in liposuction – which is less invasive than older liposuction methods. Only a local anesthetic is needed, and a very minute incision is all that is required. Tumescent liposuction results in faster recovery, less bleeding, swelling and bruising, and smoother, more beautiful result.

Is Liposuction Safe?

Minimally invasive tumescent liposuction performed with local anesthetic is an incredibly safe procedure for healthy men and women. As with any medical procedure, there are always some risks and potential complications. But hiring a skilled board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali – who has performed thousands of liposuction procedures – ensures that greatly lessen any risks.

When you schedule your consultation with Dr. Ali he will ensure you are physically fit to undergo surgery, and fully discuss any potential risks, if any, so you can make an informed decision.

How Long does Liposuction Take?

The length of your liposuction procedure will depend upon the number of areas to be treated and the amount of fat that needs to be removed. Most liposuction procedures last between 45 minutes and 2 ½ hours. Usually up to three to four areas can safely be done with a single liposuction procedure – meaning most patients only need one surgery for all treatment areas.

When will I see Liposuction Results?

The fat will be immediately and permanently removed at the time of the procedure – but swelling can make it hard to see right away. Usually by 3 weeks much of the swelling has subsided – so typically you will see the results within one month. Complete and finally results, however, may take up to 6 months or more – depending on the skin’s elasticity, the amount of fat removed and how much swelling occurred. Dr. Ali will thoroughly discuss expectations with you during your consultation, prior to your liposuction.
