/in Breast Implant, Breast Reduction, Breast Revision Surgeon /by M.Azar AliYour Breasts – Your Body: Implant Removal is a Personal Choice
Breast implant removal has gained significant attention in recent years as more women choose to undergo this procedure for a variety of personal, medical, and lifestyle reasons. While breast implants remain one of the most popular and successful cosmetic procedures, with millions of satisfied patients worldwide, some women eventually decide that removal is the right choice for their current life circumstances. Understanding the most common reasons for breast implant removal can help women make informed decisions about their breast health and aesthetic goals. At AMAE Plastic Surgery & Med Spa in the West Bloomfield, MI area, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali has performed thousands of breast implant removal procedures, helping patients achieve beautiful, natural results that align with their personal goals and lifestyle preferences.
The decision to undergo breast implant removal is deeply personal and can stem from various factors ranging from medical considerations to evolving aesthetic preferences. It’s important to understand that breast implant removal doesn’t necessarily indicate problems with the implants themselves, as modern breast implants are generally safe and effective when placed by experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons. Many women who choose breast implant removal are simply experiencing life changes that make removal the preferred option for their current circumstances and future goals.
The reasons for breast implant removal have evolved significantly over the years, with many women now choosing removal as part of broader lifestyle changes rather than due to complications or dissatisfaction. This shift reflects changing beauty standards, increased focus on natural aesthetics, and women’s desire to align their physical appearance with their current life phase and personal values. Dr. Ali works closely with patients in the West Bloomfield, MI area to understand their individual motivations and develop personalized treatment plans that achieve their desired outcomes.
Celebrity Influence on Breast Implant Removal Trends
Recent high-profile celebrities have brought increased attention to breast implant removal, with several well-known figures openly discussing their decision to remove their implants. These public discussions have helped normalize the conversation around breast implant removal and have encouraged many women to consider whether this procedure might be right for them. Celebrity influence has played a significant role in reducing stigma around breast implant removal and has highlighted that this decision can be empowering and positive rather than indicative of regret or complications.
Celebrities who have chosen breast implant removal often cite reasons such as wanting a more natural appearance, experiencing lifestyle changes, or simply evolving aesthetic preferences. Their openness about the decision has helped many women understand that breast implant removal is a valid choice that doesn’t reflect negatively on their original decision to get implants. Dr. Ali has seen an increase in patients in the West Bloomfield, MI area who feel more confident about considering breast implant removal after seeing positive examples in the media.
The celebrity trend toward breast implant removal has also highlighted the importance of choosing experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons for both implant placement and removal procedures. Many celebrities emphasize working with highly skilled surgeons who can achieve beautiful, natural results regardless of whether they’re adding or removing implants. This emphasis on surgical expertise reinforces the importance of selecting qualified providers like Dr. Ali for any breast surgery procedure.
Medical Reasons for Breast Implant Removal
While breast implants are generally safe and effective, certain medical situations may necessitate breast implant removal to protect patient health and well-being. Medical reasons for removal can include capsular contracture, implant rupture, infection, or other complications that may develop over time. It’s important to note that many medical complications are often the result of poor surgical techniques, inadequate follow-up care, or defective implants rather than inherent problems with breast augmentation itself. Dr. Ali’s extensive experience and meticulous surgical techniques help minimize the risk of complications that might require future breast implant removal.
Capsular contracture represents one of the most common medical reasons for breast implant removal, occurring when scar tissue around the implant becomes tight and contracted. This condition can cause discomfort, distortion of breast shape, and aesthetic concerns that may warrant removal or replacement. Studies published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery indicate that capsular contracture rates are significantly lower when surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeons using proper techniques and sterile protocols. Patients in the West Bloomfield, MI area benefit from Dr. Ali’s expertise in preventing and treating capsular contracture through advanced surgical techniques.
Implant rupture, while relatively uncommon with modern implants, can also necessitate breast implant removal. Saline implant ruptures are immediately apparent as the implant deflates, while silicone ruptures may be less obvious and require imaging studies for detection. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recommends regular monitoring of breast implants to detect potential issues early. When rupture does occur, prompt breast implant removal and replacement can restore both aesthetic appearance and peace of mind for patients.
Aesthetic Reasons for Breast Implant Removal
Evolving aesthetic preferences represent a significant category of reasons for breast implant removal, as women’s style preferences and beauty ideals naturally change over time. Many women who were satisfied with their breast implants for years may eventually prefer a smaller, more natural appearance that better aligns with current fashion trends or personal style evolution. This shift doesn’t indicate dissatisfaction with their original decision but rather reflects normal changes in personal preferences and lifestyle priorities.
Age-related changes in body proportions and breast tissue can also influence decisions about breast implant removal. As women age, natural breast tissue changes, skin elasticity decreases, and body proportions may shift, potentially making larger implants feel less proportionate or comfortable. Dr. Ali works with patients in the West Bloomfield, MI area to evaluate how aging has affected their breast appearance and can recommend whether breast implant removal, replacement with smaller implants, or additional procedures might achieve their desired aesthetic goals.
Some women choose breast implant removal as part of a broader commitment to natural beauty and minimalist aesthetics. This trend toward embracing natural body characteristics has gained momentum in recent years, with many women feeling empowered by choosing breast implant removal to return to their natural breast size and shape. The decision to pursue a more natural appearance through breast implant removal can be just as valid and empowering as the original decision to get implants.
Lifestyle Reasons for Breast Implant Removal
Significant lifestyle changes often motivate women to consider breast implant removal as they reassess their priorities and physical needs. Career changes, particularly those involving increased physical activity, travel, or professional image considerations, may make breast implant removal an attractive option. Women entering careers in fitness, athletics, or other physically demanding fields may find that smaller breasts better support their professional goals and physical performance requirements.
Fitness and athletic goals represent increasingly common reasons for breast implant removal, as more women prioritize active lifestyles and athletic performance. Large breast implants can sometimes interfere with certain types of exercise, sports participation, or fitness goals, leading women to choose removal to optimize their physical capabilities. Dr. Ali has worked with numerous patients in the West Bloomfield, MI area who chose breast implant removal to support their fitness journeys and athletic aspirations, helping them achieve natural-looking results that complement their active lifestyles.
Family considerations also play a role in breast implant removal decisions, with some women choosing removal in preparation for pregnancy and breastfeeding or as their family priorities evolve. While breast implants don’t typically interfere with breastfeeding, some women prefer to remove them for personal comfort or peace of mind. Others may choose breast implant removal as their children get older and their personal priorities shift toward different aspects of health and appearance.

His thorough pre-operative evaluation, meticulous surgical technique, and comprehensive post-operative care contribute to consistently positive outcomes for patients. This track record of success gives patients confidence that their breast implant removal will be performed safely and effectively, with results that meet or exceed their expectations.
Reasons for Breast Implant Removal vs. Replacement
Women considering breast implant removal have several options available, including complete removal or replacement with smaller implants that better suit their current preferences and lifestyle. The choice between removal and replacement depends on individual goals, anatomy, and aesthetic preferences. Dr. Ali works closely with patients in the West Bloomfield, MI area to evaluate their options and recommend the approach that will best achieve their desired outcomes while maintaining natural-looking results.
Complete breast implant removal, also known as explantation, involves removing the implants and any associated scar tissue while preserving natural breast tissue. This approach allows women to return to their natural breast size and shape, though the final appearance will depend on factors such as original breast size, implant duration, and skin elasticity. Dr. Ali’s expertise in tissue preservation and reconstruction techniques helps ensure that patients achieve the most natural and aesthetically pleasing results possible from complete removal.
Replacement with smaller implants offers a middle-ground option for women who want to reduce their breast size while maintaining some enhancement. This approach can address concerns about implant size while avoiding the more dramatic change associated with complete removal. The replacement option allows for customization of size, shape, and implant type to better match current preferences and lifestyle needs. Dr. Ali’s extensive experience with both removal and replacement procedures ensures that patients receive expert guidance in choosing the option that best serves their goals.
Breast Implant Removal is a Personal Decision
The decision to undergo breast implant removal is deeply personal and should be made with careful consideration of individual circumstances, goals, and preferences. There is no “right” or “wrong” choice when it comes to breast implant removal, as the best decision is the one that aligns with each woman’s current life situation and future goals. Dr. Ali emphasizes the importance of open communication and thorough consultation to help patients explore their motivations and understand their options fully.
Factors to consider in the breast implant removal decision include current satisfaction with implant appearance, lifestyle changes, health considerations, and long-term aesthetic goals. Some women may benefit from a trial period of wearing smaller bras or compression garments to simulate the appearance of smaller breasts before making their final decision. Dr. Ali encourages patients in the West Bloomfield, MI area to take the time they need to make an informed decision that feels right for their individual circumstances.
The consultation process for breast implant removal should include discussion of expectations, potential outcomes, recovery requirements, and any risks associated with the procedure. Dr. Ali’s comprehensive consultation approach ensures that patients understand all aspects of their chosen procedure and feel confident in their decision. This thorough preparation contributes to higher satisfaction rates and better overall outcomes for patients undergoing breast implant removal.

/in Breast Reduction /by adminWe Accept Insurance for Breast Reduction Surgery
At AMAE Plastic Surgery in Oakland County, we understand that living with overly large breasts can be both physically and emotionally challenging. A common concern for those considering this procedure is whether breast reduction surgery is covered by insurance. At AMAE Plastic Surgery, we believe in treating the whole person, addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of your well-being with empathy and professional care.
What Is Breast Reduction Surgery?
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure designed to remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a breast size more proportionate to your body. This surgery not only reduces the volume of the breasts but also lifts and reshapes them, often resulting in a more youthful and balanced appearance.
For many women, breast reduction is more than just a cosmetic procedure. It can provide significant relief from physical symptoms associated with large breasts, such as:
- Chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain
- Skin irritation and rashes under the breast crease
- Shoulder grooves from bra straps
- Difficulty exercising or participating in physical activities
- Posture problems
At AMAE Plastic Surgery in Oakland County, Dr. Ali works closely with each patient to develop a personalized surgical plan that addresses their unique needs and goals. We understand that this decision is significant, and we’re committed to supporting you every step of the way.
When Is Breast Reduction Surgery Covered by Insurance?
Many insurance providers recognize breast reduction as a medically necessary procedure when it’s performed to alleviate physical symptoms caused by overly large breasts. However, coverage criteria can vary between insurance companies. Generally, breast reduction surgery may be covered by insurance when:
There’s documented evidence of physical symptoms caused by large breasts that have not responded to conservative treatments (such as supportive bras, physical therapy, or pain medication)
A certain amount of breast tissue needs to be removed (this amount varies by insurance provider)
The patient’s BMI falls within a specific range (as determined by the insurance company)
There’s proof that non-surgical interventions have been tried without success
It’s important to note that insurance companies often require extensive documentation to prove medical necessity. This may include:
- A detailed history of symptoms and their duration
- Records of treatments attempted and their outcomes
- Photographs demonstrating the size of the breasts and any physical signs of discomfort (such as shoulder grooving)
- A letter from your primary care physician supporting the need for surgery
At AMAE Plastic Surgery, we understand that navigating insurance requirements can be overwhelming. Our caring staff in Oakland County is here to assist you in gathering the necessary documentation and advocating for your needs with your insurance provider.
When Isn’t Breast Reduction Surgery Covered by Insurance?
While many insurance providers cover medically necessary breast reduction, there are situations where coverage may be denied:
- When the surgery is deemed primarily cosmetic rather than medically necessary
- If the amount of breast tissue to be removed doesn’t meet the insurance company’s minimum requirement
- When the patient’s BMI is above the insurance company’s specified range
- If there’s insufficient documentation of physical symptoms or failed conservative treatments
- In cases where the patient is a smoker (some insurance companies require patients to quit smoking before approving the surgery)
It’s crucial to have a thorough discussion with both your insurance provider and your surgeon at AMAE Plastic Surgery. Dr. Ali and our team in Oakland County can help you understand what aspects of your desired reduction may or may not be covered and work with you to explore all available options.
Is Breast Reduction Surgery Covered by Medicare?
Medicare, like most insurance providers, generally covers breast reduction surgery when it’s deemed medically necessary. To be eligible for coverage under Medicare, you typically need to meet the following criteria:
- You have physical symptoms caused by your large breasts that have been present for at least six months
- These symptoms significantly interfere with your daily activities
- You’ve tried other treatments (like physical therapy or special supportive bras) without success
- Your surgeon plans to remove a specific amount of breast tissue, as determined by Medicare guidelines
As with private insurance, Medicare may not cover procedures that are considered purely cosmetic. At AMAE Plastic Surgery in Oakland County, we have experience working with Medicare patients and can help guide you through the coverage process, ensuring you understand your benefits and any potential out-of-pocket expenses.
Tips for Getting Breast Reduction Surgery Covered by Insurance

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction Surgery?
/in Breast Reduction /by adminBreast Reduction Surgery Can Change Your Life!
When most people think of breast surgery, chances are good that they are thinking about breast implants for women desiring to make their bust larger. But many women who have naturally large breasts know that bigger isn’t always better.
“I see many women who come to me with very real and painful side effects from their large breast size,” says MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali. “Back, neck and shoulder pain, grooves from bra straps digging in as they support the weight of the breast, and discomfort when exercising are very real issues women with large breasts deal with. But they don’t have to.”
Having a beautiful bust line doesn’t mean that your breasts have to be extremely large. Breast reduction surgery can reduce the weight of heavy breasts, while also making them more beautiful. Removing excess fat, tissue and stretched skin, Dr. Ali can sculpt breasts that aren’t just smaller, but more beautiful than ever before. In addition to removing excess tissue to make the breasts smaller, reduction surgery can also lift and shape the breasts.
Physical Benefits of Breast Reduction Surgery
In a 2012 study published in an issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, researchers found that women who underwent a breast reduction surgery had high levels of satisfaction. Physical improvements including a reduction in headaches, improved breathing, better sleep, and above all the elimination of back, neck and shoulder pain.
For women with large breasts, it can be difficult finding clothing and bras that fit properly. After a breast reduction, women find their wardrobe choices increase, and they happily report they can wear clothes they never would have been able to before.
Another area women may have problems with before surgery is exercising. They can experience extreme physical discomfort from the weight and size of their breasts, but after breast reduction surgery can participate in physical activities they never were able to before.
Psychological Benefits of Breast Reduction Surgery
But there are also many psychological improvements women see, too. Having extremely large breasts can make women uncomfortable and self-conscious, and may lead to issues with depression and anxiety.
“After a breast reduction surgery, patients are often happier and more confident,” says Dr. Ali. “They spent years trying to hide their large bust, but now, they face the world confidently, and without physical pain. Their bodies are more in proportion, so their self-esteem greatly improves.”
How Breast Reduction Surgery is Performed
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia – which means that the patient is “put to sleep” and not conscious during the surgery. Dr. Ali typically uses one of two different incision types, depending on the patients breast size and their post-surgery appearance goals.
The first is a three-part incision technique, known as an anchor incision. The incisions are made around the areola, first vertically to the crease beneath the breast and then horizontally beneath the breast, paying close attention to follow the natural crease of the breast.
The other incision type is referred to as the lollypop technique. In this surgical technique, Dr. Ali will take great care to limit the incision to around the nipple and straight down the fold of the breast, eliminating the need for the horizontal incision along the crease of the breast.
Dr. Ali will remove the desired amount of excess fat and tissue, and carefully reposition the nipple and areola. He can also reduce the size of the areola to fit better with the new breast size. Dr. Ali will then take great care to contour the breast to provide you with the most beautiful result following surgery.
Recovery from Breast Reduction Surgery
There will be discomfort for a few days, and you will be given medication to control any post operative pain. Bruising and swelling will begin to go away over the weeks following surgery. Patients will have drains to help remove excess blood and fluid, but the drains will be removed after a few days. To heal properly, patients should avoid strenuous activity for at least six weeks.
Who is a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction Surgery
Living with oversized breasts can be more than just an aesthetic concern. It can be a physical and emotional burden, impacting your daily life and confidence. If you’re considering breast reduction surgery in the Bloomfield Hills area, understanding who makes a good candidate is crucial. Dr. Ali, renowned for his meticulous approach and commitment to natural-looking results. To begin with, it is important to remember that breast reduction is an extensive surgery, so patients must be in good overall health prior to the procedure. Patients must also not smoke before or after the procedure because smoking interferes with the body’s ability to heal.
Physical Considerations for Breast Reduction Surgery
Ideally, women with breasts at least two cup sizes larger than their proportional frame are optimal candidates. This ensures noticeable improvement in comfort and appearance.
Chronic pain in the neck, back, shoulders, and breasts due to excessive weight in the chest is a strong indicator that a woman will benefit from breast implant surgery. Difficulty exercising or participating in daily activities due to breast size also typically qualifies a woman for breast reduction surgery.
Additionally, overstretched skin with visible striae (stretch marks) can benefit from the tightening effect of breast reduction surgery.
Emotional Considerations for Breast Reduction Surgery
Feeling self-conscious or embarrassed about your appearance, avoiding certain activities, or experiencing limitations in clothes that properly fit you due to breast size can significantly impact your daily life. Breast reduction surgery can help a woman be comfortable in her own body so that she can enjoy life with confidence and self-assurance.
Understanding the surgical process and recovery is also crucial. Commitment to maintaining a healthy weight after surgery is also key for long-lasting results. Feeling emotionally prepared to handle the changes associated with breast reduction surgery is also essential. Dr. Ali offers comprehensive consultations to address any concerns or questions you may have before breast reduction surgery and ensure you’re well-informed throughout the journey.

Teen Breast Reduction Can Be Life Changing
/in Breast Reduction /by adminBreast Reduction Surgery Can Be Life Changing for Teens –
Women of all ages can experience great physical and emotional discomfort from having unusually large breasts, but that discomfort is often even more intense for teen girls. Fortunately, teen breast reduction surgery can provide such girls with a much-needed sense of relief.
Girls considering teen breast reduction surgery can take comfort in knowing that the procedure ranks among the most common that plastic surgeons perform. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2011 saw more than 63,000 such surgeries performed, with a great many of them teen breast reduction. At the Detroit area’s AMAE Plastic Surgery, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali understands the physical and emotional turmoil that leads young women down the path of teen breast reduction, and strives to providing all such patients with the relief they so sincerely deserve.
Why Teens Seek Breast Reduction
At AMAE Plastic Surgery, Dr. Ali has seen many adolescents in the Detroit area seek out teen breast reduction to treat a great many physical and emotional hardships. Teen girls with diagnosed with macromastia (a condition that causes excessive growth of the breasts), as well as those who simply have unusually large breasts, are often subject to physical side effects, such as pain in the neck and shoulders. But these young women also face many emotional side effects of their large breasts. Teen breast reduction surgery can significantly improve a young woman’s self esteem, and can put an end to the bullying, teasing, or unwanted sexual advances she may have received.
Many young women do not seek out teen breast reduction surgery until much later than necessary. With roughly two-thirds of teens with macromastia being overweight (the condition often makes exercising difficult), the affliction can be difficult to diagnose. Additionally, many teen girls simply feel too embarrassed to talk to a doctor about their condition, and as a result put off seeking off teen breast reduction surgery – until they have become too overcome with the pain their breasts have caused.
Regardless of one’s age, no one should ever allow embarrassment to preclude them from seeking out important medical attention. At AMAE Plastic Surgery, board certified Detroit area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali understands the sensitive nature of teen breast reduction surgery, and wishes for any adolescent women considering the procedure to schedule a consultation sooner rather than later – so he can help them.
Recent Study on Teen Breast Reduction
The impact of teen breast reduction surgery experienced by patients was recently detailed in a study published in the medical journal Pediatrics. The study highlighted whether or not adolescents should wait to undergo the procedure until later in life, or if teen breast reduction surgery was indeed the healthiest course of action.
The study saw 96 girls surveyed, each between the ages of 12 and 21. A plastic surgeon at the Children’s Hospital Boston diagnosed all subjects with macromastia, but none of the subjects had yet undergone teen breast reduction surgery. For comparison, 103 additional girls in the same age range were compiled from the hospitals other departments as a control group. Girls in the control group suffered from no identified breast issues, and did not have a history with eating disorders or other issues of mental health.
Participants were asked questions regarding both their general physical, mental, and emotional well-being, as well as questions specifically pertaining to issues about their breasts. Specifically, participants were asked if they had ever considered teen breast reduction surgery.
The study found that the women suffering from macromastia experienced severe detriment to their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. In addition to impacting the participants’ overall quality of life, the study found that participants suffering from macromastia were three times more likely to develop eating disorders than those in the control group.
The Value of Teen Breast Reduction
Based on the above findings, there is clearly significant value in allowing young women to undergo teen breast reduction surgery, rather than making them wait until later in life. Teen breast reduction can put an end to the suffering adolescent girls experience from having disproportionately large breasts.
And while the argument has been made in favor of postponing teen breast reduction as long as three years after the beginning of a young woman’s first menstrual cycle, there is little evidence to support this being beneficial.
Teen Breast Reduction – Detroit Area
The choice to undergo breast reduction surgery can provide patients with a feeling of relief that is not only physical, but also emotional. And for teen breast reduction patients, that sense of relief is often even greater – as they are now able to enjoy a normal teenage life and athletic activities, free of teasing and bullying.

Physical & Emotional Benefits of Breast Reduction Surgery
/in Breast Reduction /by adminPhysical & Emotional Benefits of Breast Reduction Surgery –
Plastic surgeons tend to universally agree that the gratification they experience from performing breast reduction surgery surpasses that which they experience from almost any other procedure.
Similarly, that same feeling of satisfaction tends to be shared by breast reduction surgery patients. Out of all cosmetic procedures, breast reduction surgery tends to produce among the highest degree of patient contentment, with patients consistently reporting being highly satisfied with the results of their breast reduction surgery.
Having abnormally large breasts can cause a strain on one’s life that is both physical and emotional. That’s why at AMAE Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali is committed to providing all of his Detroit area breast reduction surgery patients with the sense of relief they deserve.
In this article, we will discuss the many benefits of breast reduction surgery.
Breast Reduction Surgery for Physical Relief
Breast reduction surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures by plastic surgeons. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that, in 2011, more than 63,000 breast reduction surgeries were performed in the United States.
One hallmark of breast reduction surgery that sets it apart from other plastic surgeries is the physical relief it provides patients. The strain on one’s back caused by the excessive weight of one’s breasts often plays a major role in their decision to undergo breast reduction surgery.
Excessively large breasts can cause pain and discomfort to not just the back, but also the shoulders and neck, all of which often factor into the decision to get breast reduction surgery. Bra straps tend to be located directly on top of the grooving of the shoulders, and the weight of one’s breasts can cause them to grind into the skin, furthering the discomfort that can be alleviated through breast reduction surgery.
Breast reduction surgery may also be a sensible choice for Detroit area patients who’s dramatic weight loss has caused their breasts to sag or appear stretched out, both of which can cause painful rashes or chafing in the area underneath the breasts.
Breast Reduction Surgery for Emotional Relief
The emotional toll of disproportionately large breasts can be devastating. Rude stares, inappropriate comments and even unwanted physical advances are all, tragically, common for women with very large breasts.
For teens, this can take the form of unbearable teasing and bullying. In fact, clinical studies suggest adolescents suffering macromastia (a condition that causes the breasts to grow exponentially) experience serious blows to their self-esteem and overall quality of life, making breast reduction an even more sensible choice. Teens with macromastia who undergo breast reduction surgery find themselves freed from the negative physical and emotional impacts of having disproportionately large breasts.
Clinical studies also show that teens diagnosed with macromastia three times more likely to develop eating disorders, yet another reason to consider breast reduction surgery.
Benefits of Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction offers three-for-one surgical benefits, addressing both functional/physical, aesthetic/appearance and emotional/psychological concerns. Studies find that the relief patients feel from their breast reduction surgery tends to be almost instantaneous. While patients still tend to experience the soreness that accompanies virtually any surgical procedure, the discomfort from the excessive weight of the breasts was no longer present upon conclusion of their breast reduction surgery.
At the Detroit area’s AMAE Plastic Surgery, most breast reduction surgery patients seek out the procedure not simply because they wish to change their appearance, but as a way of treating something that has brought them a great deal of physical and emotional discomfort.
Breast reduction surgery patients are usually able to resume their normal routine after about 1-2 weeks. That said, breast reduction surgery patients should wait at least two months before engaging in strenuous physical

The 5 Types of Breast Surgery
/in Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Breast Reconstruction, Breast Reduction /by adminThe 5 Types of Breast Surgery
Loving her body helps a woman feel sexy and confident, whether she is curvy, lean or somewhere in between. And a woman’s breasts may help her feel attractive (or self-conscience) depending on their size, shape, position and how well she feels they flatter or detract from her overall physical appearance.
Breast surgery, when performed by an experienced and skilled plastic surgeon, can help a woman feel good about her body, by enabling her to change the shape, size and even the position of her breasts. Today, breast surgery is considered a routine medical procedure that is not only safe, but also becoming more and more affordable, with financing options to help offset the cost.
In this article, Macomb County plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains the five types of breast surgery that a woman can elect to have, to improve her bust line.
Breast Reduction Surgery
Women with breasts that are too large for their body can experience serious health issues, from pain in the upper body, back and neck to posture problems that can become quite serious as they age. Due to its positive health impact, breast reduction surgery is becoming quite common, because it can help change the lives of women at any age so they can enjoy a more active lifestyle, free from pain.
Breast Lift Surgery
Over time, breasts of any size and shape will naturally begin to droop and lose their youthful appearance. Age, gravity, pregnancy, nursing and even heredity can cause the breasts to lose their elasticity and droop and sag.
Breast lift surgery can help restore and enhance the breast’s position and shape, and reduce the signs of aging. In addition to the breast being lifted and tightened, the procedure removes excess skin. The surgeon can also repositions the nipple higher on the breast for a perkier look.
Breast lift surgery can be performed with or without augmenting the breast with implants, if the patient would like the breasts to also appear fuller or larger.
Breast Augmentation Surgery (Implants)
Breast augmentation surgery is also referred to as breast implant surgery or breast enhancement surgery. In this procedure, the natural breast tissue is supplemented with inserts made from silicone or saline called implants.
Breast implant surgery can enhance the bust line of any women who feel their breasts are too small due to heredity, weight loss, or aging – all of which can impact a woman’s self-esteem.
Nipple Correction Surgery
Many women choose to have their nipples cosmetically corrected for a more pleasing appearance. Nipple Correction Surgery can solve a variety of nipple concerns from puffy, protruding, oversized or inverted nipples to altering the size and shape of the entire areola.
Nipple surgery can be performed alone – or along with additional breast surgery for enlargements, reductions, lifts or reconstruction.
Breast Reconstruction Surgery
For women who survived breast cancer, as well as women who have experienced physical chest trauma or burns, breast reconstruction surgery can help restore a better quality of life and renew their self-esteem.
Technological advances have given surgeons like Dr. Ali the ability to not only restore a patient’s beautiful female shape but to also preserve breast sensitivity which allows her to enjoy more natural sexuality.
And, with the 1998 passing of the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act, all health insurance plans are required by law to cover breast reconstruction surgery – including breast implants – for patients who endured a mastectomy or lumpectomy due to cancer and other diseases.

Breast Surgery Statistics Show Increase in All Procedures
/in Breast Augmentation, Breast Reconstruction, Breast Reduction /by adminBreast Surgery Statistics –
If you’re “on the fence” about considering breast surgery – including breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction – take a look at the most recent statistics! Data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) shows that thousands more people opt for breasts surgery year.
Of the nearly 1.8 million cosmetic surgeries performed in 2017, the number one surgery was breast augmentation – with more than 300,000 performed. This represents and increase of 3 percent over 2016.
According to the ASPS President David H. Song, MD, MBA, FACS, “… traditional facial procedures and breast augmentations are still among the most popular … patients have more options than ever, and working closely with their surgeon, they’re able to focus on specific target areas of the body to achieve the look they desire.”
Breast Lift Surgery Statistics
Since 2000, ASPS statistics show that Breast Lifts Surgery increased by 90 percent from the year 2000 to 2017. Statistics reveal that 52,836 breast lift surgeries were performed in the US in 2000, compared to 99,614 breast lifts in 2015! In fact, breast lift surgery showed the most overall growth of any plastic surgery during that time period.
Breast Augmentation Surgery Statistics
Of the almost 2 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2015 and 2016 and 2017, the number one was breast augmentation surgery every year. 279,143 breast augmentation surgeries were performed in the US in 2015, 291, 367 were performed in 2016; and 300,378 were performed in 2017 – for a full 34 percent increase from the year 2000.
Breast Reduction Surgery Statistics
There were 68,106 aesthetic breast reduction surgeries performed in the United States in 2015. And, for the first time, men accounted for more than 40 percent of these aesthetic breast reduction surgeries.
A total of 27,456 breast reduction surgeries were performed on men in 2015, representing a 35 percent growth since 2000.
Said the President of the ASPS, “As plastic surgery is becoming more common and accepted in men, we’re seeing more of them undergo procedures to tighten and tone problem areas, like the breasts.”
He added, “This procedure is often done in younger men who face genetic challenges with the size and shape of their breasts, and when appropriate, surgery can make a big difference in their lives.”
Breast Reconstruction Surgery Statistics
For the past several years the ASPS has spearheaded a national Breast Reconstruction Awareness Campaign to educate and empower women to make informed decisions following breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy. And, as more breast cancer patients become aware of breast reconstruction surgery options, the number of breast reconstruction surgeries continues to increase dramatically.
In 2015 breast reconstruction surgeries increased to more than 106,300, which represents a remarkable 35 percent since 2000.
“That’s encouraging, and we hope to continue to get the word out to all women who are facing breast cancer, so they will be well aware of all their reconstructive options from the outset of diagnosis,” said the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Breast Lift Vs. Breast Reduction – What’s the Difference?
/0 Comments/in Breast Lift, Breast Reduction /by adminBloomfield Hills, Detroit, MI – When people think of breast surgeries, breast augmentation is typically the first procedure that comes to mind. And for good reason. Breast enhancement happens to be one of the most popular plastic surgeries the world over. Other breast surgeries may not get as much press, yet more women are opting for them than ever before. Breast lifts and breast reductions are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s important to learn the difference between the two before going under the knife.
Why Breast Surgery?
Many women see breasts as symbols of femininity. Furthermore, the size, shape and general appearance of her breasts can affect a woman’s self-esteem either positively or negatively. Many women choose breast surgery – either a breast lift or breast reduction – because age has taken its toll, or following childbirth. Some women seek out breast surgery during or after menopause and following significant weight loss.
Michigan plastic surgeon, Dr. M. Azhar Ali, regularly performs breast surgeries at Amae Plastic Surgery Center in Bloomfield Hills, a subsection of Detroit. According to Dr. Ali, breast lifts and breast reductions are both gaining in popularity, but the final decision of which surgery to choose should only come after a consultation and careful examination.
What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is recommended when a woman’s breast has lost its youthful shape and appearance due to age, childbirth or other factors. During the procedure, excess and loose skin are removed, and the nipple is repositioned to a higher level. For breasts that also lack volume, breast implants may be added. The after-effects include youthful and self-supporting breasts that help a woman’s confidence surge.
Following surgery, the woman will be required to wear a support bra around the clock for around two to four weeks. The bra helps to support the breasts while they heal. Activities should be limited so that the woman doesn’t overexert herself for at least four weeks, but she should be able to return to work after a week or so.
What is a Breast Reduction?
A woman’s breasts can swell during pregnancy or after weight gain, and some women have overly large breasts that are passed down through their family histories.
A breast reduction is recommended when the breasts have become so large that the woman experiences back, neck or shoulder pain. Oversized breasts can also make it uncomfortable to wear bras and, in some cases, exercise becomes next to impossible.
During the procedure, and in most cases, a three-part incision is made around the areola. This is also known as the “anchor” technique. Since the anchor technique can tend to produce a vertical scar around the nipple and down the fold of the breast, another procedure known as the “lollypop” method may be used. The lollypop eliminates the horizontal scar but is not always called for. The type of procedure performed is chosen by the plastic surgeon only after careful examination.
Dr. Ali notes that, “Depending on the size and shape of the breast, I will perform the type of surgery that produces the best outcome for the patient’s well-being and self-esteem.”
Following a breast lift, the patient should refrain from engaging in strenuous activity for at least six weeks. A support bra will also be used for a breast reduction, and normal activity should resume after a few weeks.
Other Breast Surgery Differences
A breast lift can cost as much as $5,000, and a breast reduction can run between $6,500 and $7,500. Both procedures offer about the same amount of downtime, and both can considerably enhance a woman’s self-esteem. One glaring difference between the two procedures is insurance. While a breast lift is rarely covered by insurance, breast reductions are often included. That’s because a breast reduction can alleviate pain and increase the woman’s quality of life.
Both a breast lift and breast reduction can also be part of a mommy makeover procedure, which is intended to give women a new lease on life following childbirth.
