Advanced Technologies Treat Rosacea & Eliminate Redness
Rosacea is a frustrating skin condition that causes redness, flushing and visible blood vessels on the face, and sometimes on the neck and chest. Patients with more severe rosacea can also experience pus-filled bumps or pimples – called pustules – that cause pain, burning and stinging.
In this article skin care and repair expert Dr. Ali discusses the symptoms, causes and treatments for this uncomfortable and often embarrassing condition.
Who Gets Rosacea?
Rosacea is actually a more common condition than most people realize. According to the American Academy of dermatology more than 14 million people are living with rosacea. Most people who get rosacea have fair skin and are between the age of 30 and 50 years. However, rosacea can affect people of all ethnicities and ages – even children.
People with blonde hair and blue eyes and/or who are of Celtic or Scandinavian ancestry are most likely to suffer from rosacea. Women are slightly more likely than men to get rosacea. However, men are more likely to get severe rosacea.
What Causes Rosacea?
Unfortunately, rosacea is still a bit of a mystery to the medical community. While the exact cause is still unknown, Rosacea tends to run in families – so it’s possible that people inherit genes for rosacea.
Scientists also believe that the immune system may play a role. Some studies have shown that people with acne-like rosacea react to a type of bacteria (bacillus oleronius) that may cause their immune system to overreact.
More recent theories postulate that the bacteria H pylori, which causes infections in the intestines, may play a role. Other scientists suspect that a mite that lives on everyone’s skin, demodex, may play a role.
Certain lifestyle factors – while they do not cause rosacea – may trigger flushing. These include sun exposure, alcohol consumption, certain foods (especially spicy food), and skin irritants, etc.
How is Rosacea Treated?
Rosacea, like almost any medical condition, effects every person differently. Doctors classify rosacea into subtypes that are categorized under complex phenotype groups. So, every rosacea patient’s treatment plan needs to be approached individually by an experienced doctor.
While there is no known “cure” for rosacea, there are several treatments Dr. Ali offers patients that can reduce – or even eliminate – the redness, flushing, visible veins, and pustules of rosacea. Dr. Ali has will conduct a thorough examination and consultation to determine if Morpheus8, IPL, medical-grade skincare products, or one of our other advanced rosacea treatments is right for you.
IPL Rosacea Treatment
IPL, which stands for Intense Pulsed Light, emits controlled pulses of specific wavelengths, to alleviate the inflammation and redness of Rosacea. The red hemoglobin in the blood absorbs the specific light frequency from the lasers which destroys the small blood vessels that are responsible for the appearance of rosacea.
But not all IPLs are created equal! At AMAE Med Spa in the Rochester Hills area, we used the advanced The Candela Nordlys IPL system to treat rosacea. Nordlys IPL uses a unique process called selective photothermolysis, which targets and destroys the hyperactive blood vessels responsible for facial redness. Unlike traditional, broad-spectrum Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machines that release a wide range of light wavelengths, the Nordlys platform utilizes patented Selective Waveband Technology (SWT).
Why Nordlys IPL Is a Top Rosacea Treatment
This advanced dual-filter engineering strips away unnecessary or potentially harmful wavelengths on both sides of the light spectrum. By refining the light into a precise, narrowband channel, the energy specifically targets oxyhemoglobin—the protein inside your red blood cells—without overheating or burning the surrounding healthy skin tissue. The hemoglobin absorbs the energy from the IPL’s precise flashes of light, and converts it into heat. This causes the dilated, leaky capillaries and visible spider veins to collapse and close.
Over the following weeks, your body naturally reabsorbs and clears away these damaged vessels, which dramatically reduces both redness, flushing and persistent vascular lesions. Beyond directly closing down blood vessels, the light pulses also have an anti-inflammatory effect. They help stabilize skin mast cells and calm the underlying inflammatory pathways, which directly reduces the painful flare-ups and bumps associated with papulopustular rosacea.
Morpheus8 RF Microneedling Rosacea Treatment
Lighter skinned patients are the best candidates for IPL Rosacea Treatment. However, tanned or darker skinned patients may be better candidates for Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling rosacea treatment. Morpheus8 RF microneedling is typically also a better treatment option for rosacea patients with active pus-filled pimples (pustules).
Morpheus8 is a revolutionary medical device that combines the science of microneedling with radiofrequency technology to activate the body’s repair mechanisms on a subdermal cellular level. Microneedling involves piercing the epidermis (top layer of skin) with ultra-fine needles that penetrate the lower layers of the skin. The tiny needle “pricks” are perceived by the body as “micro-injuries” that stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
As the Morpheus8 needles penetrate the skin, gentle but powerful radiofrequency (RF) waves are delivered into the tissue. The RF thermal energy also stimulates the body’s repair response – healing inflammation and restoring skin to a healthy state. Learn more about Morpheus8 treatment for Rosacea HERE.
How Radiofrequency Microneedling Treats Rosacea
The Morpheus8 system treats rosacea by combining insulated microneedles with fractionated radiofrequency (RF) energy to remodel the skin’s underlying vascular and dermal structure. Unlike traditional treatments that only target surface-level redness, Morpheus8 penetrates deeper into the dermis to deliver controlled thermal energy. This specialized RF heat induces a process called neocollagenesis, building a dense, healthy matrix of new collagen and elastin that structurally thickens the skin barrier. By strengthening this dermal foundation, the treatment effectively blankets and compresses the hyperactive, dilated blood vessels responsible for rosacea flushing.
Additionally, the fractionated energy disrupts the faulty vascular networks and promotes healthier blood and lymphatic flow, while simultaneously down-regulating the localized inflammatory responses that trigger painful bumps, itching, and papulopustular flare-ups.
Cellular Rejuvenation Treatments for Rosacea
Combining RF microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) or exosomes is highly effective for managing rosacea because it dramatically accelerates cellular repair and suppresses chronic inflammation. The micro-channels created by the Morpheus8 needles act as open pathways, allowing these topical biologics to penetrate deep into the dermis.
While PRP uses your own growth factors to rebuild thinning skin, exosomes are considered particularly superior for rosacea, because they contain highly concentrated signaling molecules that actively tell overactive immune cells to calm down. This potent anti-inflammatory action rapidly cools down the heat, swelling, and extreme redness typical after a treatment. By repairing a damaged skin barrier and cutting down overall recovery time, this combination therapy turns a potentially aggressive treatment into a highly controlled, soothing session that stabilizes vascular reactivity.
Rosacea Skin Care Products
For milder to moderate cases of rosacea, a daily skin care regimen that reduces the skin’s inflammatory response and strengthens the skin’s natural barrier function can help prevent rosacea flare-ups.

Laser Hair Removal for PCOS Face & Body Hair
/in Laser hair removal /by M.Azar AliWe Understand PCOS Laser Hair Removal
Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, can cause unwanted facial and body hair growth that many women find frustrating, embarrassing and difficult to manage. Shaving, waxing and plucking offer only temporary relief and can be tedious to keep up with, especially when hair growth is persistent.
PCOS laser hair removal offers an effective, long-term option for reducing unwanted hair in hormone-sensitive areas. Rather than managing hair over and over, laser treatment targets the follicles themselves for lasting reduction.
At AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, MI area, Dr. Ali offers PCOS laser hair removal to help women manage unwanted hair growth. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ali understands the hormonal factors behind PCOS hair and how to address them effectively.
Laser Hair Removal for PCOS Hair
Hair growth caused by PCOS is driven by hormonal imbalances, particularly elevated androgen levels that stimulate coarse, dark hair in areas such as the face, chest and abdomen. This type of hair can be especially stubborn and resistant to traditional removal methods.
Because the growth is fueled by ongoing hormonal activity, temporary methods rarely keep up with it. Targeting the follicle directly offers a more effective way to reduce this persistent hair. Over time, this approach can meaningfully reduce the burden of managing PCOS-related hair growth. This lasting reduction is what makes laser treatment such a valuable option for women with PCOS.
PCOS laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle, reducing its ability to produce new hair over time. This makes it a particularly valuable option for the persistent hair growth associated with PCOS.
Top Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali uses PCOS laser hair removal to address hormonally driven hair growth. His understanding of the condition helps women achieve meaningful, lasting reduction. Because PCOS hair is driven by hormones, a treatment that targets the follicle itself offers advantages that surface methods cannot match.
How Laser Hair Removal Reduces Growth
Laser hair removal delivers concentrated light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. This energy heats and damages the follicle, reducing its ability to grow new hair while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.
Because hair grows in cycles, multiple treatments are usually needed to target follicles during their active growth phase. This is why a series of sessions produces far better results than a single treatment.
Each session reduces the number of actively growing follicles, so hair becomes progressively finer and sparser over time. Completing the full recommended series is key to achieving the best long-term reduction.
At AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, MI area, Dr. Ali uses laser hair removal to progressively reduce unwanted hair. His treatment plans are designed to target hair effectively across its natural growth cycles. Spacing sessions appropriately allows each treatment to catch follicles when they are most responsive, improving overall results.
Laser Hair Removal for Facial Hair
Unwanted facial hair is one of the most distressing symptoms of PCOS, often appearing on the upper lip, chin and neck. This hair can affect confidence and require constant management with temporary methods.
The upper lip and chin are especially common areas for PCOS-related hair, and they can be difficult to manage discreetly. Laser treatment offers relief from the ongoing cycle of shaving, waxing and plucking.
Laser hair removal can significantly reduce facial hair in these hormone-sensitive areas, offering relief from the daily burden of shaving or plucking. Many women find this improvement especially meaningful for their confidence.
Top Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali uses laser hair removal to reduce unwanted PCOS facial hair. His careful approach helps women achieve smoother skin on the face and neck. Reducing facial hair can relieve a daily source of stress for many women living with PCOS.
Laser Hair Removal for Body Hair
PCOS can also cause unwanted hair growth on the body, including the abdomen, bikini area, legs and other areas. This widespread growth can be time-consuming and uncomfortable to manage with traditional methods.
Larger areas like the legs and abdomen respond well to laser treatment, which can cover more surface efficiently. Over a series of sessions, patients often see a significant reduction in how much hair returns.
Laser hair removal effectively treats larger body areas, reducing hair growth over a series of sessions. This can dramatically cut down on the time and effort spent managing unwanted body hair.
At AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, MI area, Dr. Ali uses laser hair removal to treat unwanted body hair from PCOS. His treatments help women enjoy smoother skin across hormone-sensitive areas of the body. Treating larger areas with laser can save considerable time compared with shaving or waxing over the long term.
PCOS Laser Hair Removal Maintenance
Because PCOS involves ongoing hormonal activity, hormones can continue to stimulate new hair growth over time even after successful treatment. This is why maintenance sessions are often an important part of long-term results.
Maintenance does not mean starting over, but simply treating any new growth that hormones stimulate over time. These occasional sessions help preserve the smooth results achieved during the initial series.
Periodic maintenance treatments help keep unwanted hair under control as hormones continue to influence follicles. With a consistent plan, women can maintain smooth, hair-free skin over the long term.
Top Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali provides PCOS laser hair removal maintenance to support lasting results. His ongoing care helps women stay ahead of hormonally driven hair regrowth. A consistent maintenance schedule makes it much easier to keep results looking their best year after year.
PCOS Laser Hair Removal | Troy, MI Area
If PCOS has caused unwanted facial or body hair that is difficult to manage, PCOS laser hair removal can offer effective, long-term reduction in hormone-sensitive areas. Dr. Ali understands the hormonal nature of PCOS hair and designs treatment plans for lasting results. Tummy Tuck Surgery After GLP1 Weight Loss
/in Tummy Tuck, Weight Loss /by M.Azar AliGoodbye Loose Skin & Hello Flat Abs with Tummy Tuck Surgery
Rapid weight loss from GLP1 medications is a wonderful achievement, but it often leaves behind loose, sagging skin or an “apron belly.” After all the hard work of losing weight, this excess skin can feel discouraging and can be impossible to fix with diet and exercise alone.
Tummy tuck surgery removes this excess skin and tightens the abdominal area, allowing patients to finally show off the results of their weight loss. It is one of the most effective ways to complete a weight loss transformation.
At AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, MI area, Dr. Ali performs tummy tuck surgery for patients after GLP1 weight loss. As a board-certified plastic surgeon who has performed thousands of procedures, Dr. Ali helps patients achieve the flat, firm abdomen they have worked so hard for.
Why GLP1 Weight Loss Causes Loose Skin
When weight is lost quickly, the skin often cannot shrink fast enough to match the body’s new shape. GLP1 medications are especially effective at producing rapid results, which can leave the abdominal skin stretched and loose.
Factors such as age, genetics and the amount of weight lost all influence how much loose skin remains. For many patients, the abdomen is where this excess skin is most noticeable and most bothersome.
The abdomen tends to hold loose skin more visibly than many other areas, particularly after substantial weight loss. This is why it is the most common focus for patients seeking treatment after GLP1 weight loss. Addressing it can be the final step in completing a long weight loss journey. Removing the excess skin allows patients to finally see their hard work reflected in the mirror.
Top Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali understands why GLP1 weight loss leaves loose skin behind. His expertise helps patients address this excess skin with tummy tuck surgery. Understanding why loose skin develops helps patients set realistic expectations for what surgery can accomplish.
How Tummy Tuck Surgery Removes Excess Skin
Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen while tightening the underlying tissues. The remaining skin is then smoothed for a flatter, firmer contour.
This procedure is particularly effective for the loose, hanging skin that often follows major weight loss. It can dramatically improve both the appearance and comfort of the midsection.
By tightening the tissues and smoothing the remaining skin, the procedure creates a firmer, flatter abdominal contour. The improvement is one that diet and exercise alone simply cannot achieve once skin has been stretched.
At AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, MI area, Dr. Ali uses tummy tuck surgery to remove excess abdominal skin. His precise technique helps patients achieve a smooth, flat abdomen after weight loss. Removing this excess skin can also make clothing fit more comfortably and improve daily comfort.
Tummy Tuck Surgery for Apron Belly
An “apron belly,” where excess skin hangs down over the lower abdomen, is a common result of significant weight loss. Beyond its appearance, this excess skin can cause discomfort, irritation and hygiene challenges.
Tummy tuck surgery is the most effective way to remove an apron belly and restore a flatter, more comfortable midsection. For many patients, this brings both aesthetic and practical relief.
Beyond appearance, removing an apron belly can resolve skin irritation and make everyday movement more comfortable. This combination of benefits is why the procedure can be so meaningful after major weight loss.
Top Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali uses tummy tuck surgery to address apron belly after weight loss. His skill helps patients eliminate this excess skin for lasting improvement. Relieving the discomfort of an apron belly can be just as meaningful to patients as the improvement in appearance.
Tummy Tuck Surgery Restores Muscle Tone
Weight changes and stretching can weaken and separate the abdominal muscles, a condition that exercise alone often cannot correct. This muscle separation can leave the belly looking rounded even after weight loss.
Repairing the abdominal muscles restores the firm, supportive wall that exercise alone cannot rebuild once the muscles have separated. This step is often what gives the abdomen its truly flat appearance.
Tummy tuck surgery repairs and tightens these muscles, restoring core strength and a firmer abdominal wall. This muscle repair is a key part of achieving truly flat, toned results.
At AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, MI area, Dr. Ali uses tummy tuck surgery to restore abdominal muscle tone. His comprehensive approach addresses both loose skin and weakened muscles. Repairing the muscle wall is often the step that gives the abdomen its truly flat, firm appearance.
Recovery After Tummy Tuck Surgery
Recovery from tummy tuck surgery takes time, and following Dr. Ali’s guidance is essential for the best results. Most patients need several weeks to return to their normal routines, with strenuous activity resumed gradually.
Giving the body adequate time to heal protects both comfort and the quality of the final result. Patience during recovery is rewarded with a smooth, firm abdomen that reflects the patient’s hard work.
Proper aftercare supports smooth healing and helps protect the final result. With patience and good care, patients can enjoy a flat, firm abdomen that reflects their weight loss success.
Top Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali guides patients through recovery after tummy tuck surgery. His attentive care helps ensure a safe, comfortable healing process and beautiful results. Following the recovery plan closely gives patients the best chance of enjoying a smooth, lasting outcome.

How to Tighten Sagging Facial Skin After GLP1 Weight Loss
/in Skin Tightening /by M.Azar AliThese Skin Tightening Treatments Combat Sagging Skin
Many people are achieving remarkable weight loss results with GLP1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy. The downside is that this rapid weight loss can leave facial skin sagging and drooping, an effect often called “Ozempic Face” that can make you look older and dampen the excitement of your success.
The good news is that sagging facial skin after weight loss can be effectively treated. A range of noninvasive, minimally invasive and surgical options can tighten loose skin and restore a firmer, more youthful appearance to the face.
At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, Dr. Ali offers several highly effective facial skin tightening treatments after GLP1 weight loss. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ali helps patients firm sagging skin so their face reflects the success of their weight loss.
Why Skin Sags After GLP1 Weight Loss
Skin has a natural elasticity that allows it to conform to the body, but rapid weight loss can outpace its ability to tighten. When facial fat pads shrink quickly, the overlying skin may be left loose and sagging.
The face is often one of the first areas to show this effect because its fat pads are relatively delicate. This is why facial sagging can appear even in patients who are otherwise thrilled with their weight loss.
Age also plays a role, as older skin produces less collagen and elastin and is slower to bounce back. This combination is why facial sagging is such a common concern after GLP1 weight loss.
Top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali understands why facial skin sags after weight loss. His expertise allows him to recommend the most effective skin tightening treatment for each patient’s needs. Because every patient’s skin and degree of sagging is different, matching the right treatment to the right person is essential.
Profound Facial Skin Tightening After GLP1 Weight Loss
Profound is a minimally invasive radiofrequency treatment that stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. By energizing the deeper layers of the skin, it helps restore firmness and elasticity.
This treatment is well suited to patients with moderate facial sagging who want noticeable tightening without full surgery. As the skin rebuilds its support structures, results continue to improve over time.
This gradual improvement means the face looks progressively firmer in the weeks and months following treatment. Many patients appreciate that the change appears natural rather than sudden.
Profound is often chosen by patients who want more than a surface treatment can offer but prefer to avoid the recovery of full surgery. Its ability to stimulate multiple components of healthy skin makes it a well-rounded option after weight loss. Patients often value that a single treatment can address firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality together.
At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, Dr. Ali offers Profound facial skin tightening after GLP1 weight loss. His skill with this treatment helps patients restore firmer, more resilient skin. Rebuilding the skin’s natural support structures produces improvement that continues to develop in the months after treatment.
Morpheus8 RF Skin Tightening After GLP1 Weight Loss
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to tighten skin and improve texture. The tiny needles deliver heat beneath the surface, stimulating collagen production and remodeling the skin from within.
This versatile treatment addresses both sagging and skin quality, making it a popular choice after weight loss. It offers meaningful tightening with minimal downtime compared to surgical options.
By remodeling the skin from within, this treatment improves firmness and refines texture at the same time. It is a versatile choice for patients addressing multiple concerns after weight loss.
Top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali uses Morpheus8 RF skin tightening after GLP1 weight loss. His technique helps patients achieve firmer, smoother facial skin. Because it improves both tightness and texture, this treatment addresses several concerns in a single approach.
ThermiSmooth Skin Tightening After GLP1 Weight Loss
ThermiSmooth is a gentle, noninvasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to heat the skin and stimulate collagen. It is applied comfortably to the surface, gradually tightening the skin over a series of sessions.
Because it is completely noninvasive, ThermiSmooth appeals to patients who want firmer skin without any downtime. It is especially useful for delicate areas that benefit from a gentle approach. The treatment can be repeated over a series of comfortable sessions to build gradual, natural-looking improvement.
Because there is no downtime, patients can return to their routines immediately after each session. The gradual, comfortable nature of the treatment makes it easy to fit into a busy schedule.
At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, Dr. Ali offers ThermiSmooth skin tightening after GLP1 weight loss. His gentle, effective approach helps patients firm sagging skin comfortably. The comfortable nature of this treatment makes it a good option for patients new to skin tightening.
CO2RE Skin Tightening After GLP1 Weight Loss
CO2RE is a fractional carbon dioxide laser treatment that resurfaces the skin while stimulating collagen deep within. This dual action improves both skin tightness and surface texture, addressing multiple signs of aging at once.
The treatment is effective for patients seeking more significant improvement in skin firmness and quality. As the skin heals and rebuilds collagen, it becomes tighter, smoother and more youthful.
Top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali uses CO2RE skin tightening after GLP1 weight loss. His expertise helps patients achieve firmer, refreshed skin. In addition, autologous fat transfer can fill, plump and add volume to areas where too much fat has been lost or skin is sagging, complementing these skin tightening treatments.

6 Ways to Tighten Neck Skin & Get Rid of ‘Turkey Neck’
/in Neck Lift /by adminThese NonSurgical & Surgical Neck Tightening Treatments Really Work!
American writer and filmmaker Nora Ephron – best known romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally – once wrote: “Our faces are lies and our necks are the truth.” And if you are a woman of a ‘certain age’ you no doubt have come to realize that this is indeed the truth.
Not only does neck skin shows age more quickly, it is notoriously hard to treat. While lasers, peels, creams, serums, Botox and facial fillers can help keep the years from showing on the face, these treatments aren’t sufficient to dramatically tighten loose, sagging or wrinkled neck neck.
What Causes ‘Turkey Neck’?
The underlying anatomy of the neck — specifically the ‘platysma muscle’— is extremely thin. The platysma is a thin sheet-like muscle that runs from the upper chest and shoulder region to the jaw and the lower face. Unlike other muscles of the body that are deep within the subcutaneous tissue, the platysma sits superficially (near the surface) within the neck’s subcutaneous tissue.
As a person ages, gravity causes laxity from the lower face to extend down to the platysma where the neck muscle becomes apparent through the skin. Additionally, due to gravity and aging, the ligaments that attach the platysma to the underlying structures of the neck loosen. This is what causes the appearance of vertical neck bands.
Further, as one ages, the body loses subcutaneous fat – and the skin stops producing enough collagen and elastin to keep the skin plump, tight, and elastic. This causes the neck to skin to sag – resulting in the dreaded “turkey neck.”
#1. At Home Turkey Neck Treatment: Topical Care
We can’t stop gravity – or turn back the sands of time. But a wholesome diet, good posture, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding sun exposure, smoking and excess alcohol consumption can help delay the onset of turkey neck.
Slouching at the computer or while watching TV – as well as “tech neck” from looking down at your devices – can aggravate a droopy neck. And, while many people remember to apply sunscreen, moisturizers, and serums to their faces, they often neglect to protect their neck skin as well.
Medical grade sunscreens and ‘neck firming’ creams can help ensure that skin is protected and healthy – and help increase cell turnover and stimulate collagen production Our Alastin and Zo Skin Care products contains growth factors, antioxidants, and peptides to help fight sagging and crepiness.
#2. Non-Surgical Turkey Neck Treatments
However, sunscreen and targeted neck creams can only go so far – especially as the years continue to accumulate. Fortunately, AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa in Birmingham, MI offer several minimally invasive in-office neck treatments that can tighten neck skin. But new, advanced radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening, is a nonsurgical method of tightening the skin that is very effective on the lower face, jowls and ‘turkey neck.’
Skin laxity actually starts to occur around age 35 to 40 when the quantity and quality of the skin’s collagen and elastic production begins to decline. But radiofrequency treatments deliver thermal energy waves to heat the deeper layer of the skin (dermis). This heat stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which thickens and tightens the skin on the neck.
At AMAE Plastic Surgery and Med Spa in Birmingham, MI we offer several of the most advanced radiofrequency skin and neck tightening treatments: Profound, Morpheus8 RF Microneedling, C02RE, and ThermiSmooth.
Only local numbing is needed for these treatments and patients generally start to see an improvement in turkey neck in a month or less. Maximum neck tightening results become apparent when the collagen remodeling is complete, usually around 4 to 6 months after treatment. And because it is the body’s own collagen and elastic tissues that has been stimulated, results are very long lasting.
Profound Neck Tightening:
Operating as a high-impact, single-session treatment, Profound RF precisely injects temperature-controlled radiofrequency energy deep into the dermal layer through microneedles to trigger a massive surge of new collagen and elastin, specifically targeting severe tissue sagging and structural laxity.
Morpheus8 RF Microneedling Neck Tightening:
This treatment uses customizable, deep-penetrating fractionated radiofrequency microneedling to rebuild the underlying matrix of the skin, successfully thickening crepe-y skin and tightening mild-to-moderate “turkey neck” contours over a series of sessions.
CO2RE Neck Tightening:
As a powerful fractional carbon dioxide laser, CO2RE intensively resurfaces the neck area by vaporizing damaged columns of micro-skin, which simultaneously shrinks the loose, crepe-y skin surface and forces a drastic tightening of the epidermal matrix.
ThermiSmooth Neck Tightening:
Utilizing a completely non-invasive, temperature-monitored handpiece swept across the surface of the skin, ThermiSmooth delivers gentle radiofrequency heat over a series of comfortable, zero-downtime sessions to contract existing collagen fibers and gradually firm early signs of neck laxity.
#3. Surgical Turkey Neck Treatments
The most truly transformative procedure for a sagging, droopy turkey neck is neck lift surgery. This is because serums, creams and even radiofrequency can only treat the loose skin – but cannot tighten the neck muscles. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali is one of the only surgeons in the Birmingham, MI with the skill and experience to perform this life-changing surgery.
During neck lift surgery general anesthetic is administered and the incisions are usually concealed behind the ear. Extra neck skin is removed and naturally re-draped – and the neck muscles are also surgically tightened from the side. When necessary, an additional incision can be made under the chin to tighten the midline neck muscles which will minimize the appearance of neck bands.
Downtime after neck lift surgery is usually only about a week – and results can last well beyond a decade or more. Because neck lift surgery removes excess skin and tightens muscles it is the gold standard in treating ‘turkey neck’ and can easily take ten or 15 years off your appearance.

Mini Facelift Surgery Frequently Asked Questions
/in Face Lift /by adminWhat You Need to Know About Mini Facelift Surgery
They say 50 is the new 30! And when you look at amazingly youthful looking celebrities in their 50s – like Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz & more – this seems to be true.
But many women (and men) in their 40s and 50s start to see the first signs of facial skin laxity and sagging that begins to make them look and feel ‘older’. And while they aren’t ready for (and don’t really need) a ‘full’ facelift – they would like to reverse the drooping and deeper wrinkles that are starting to develop.
A mini facelift is an excellent option for women and men who have started noticing facial skin laxity and other effects of aging, including the beginning of jowls, neck looseness, and deepening nasolabial folds (“marionette lines”). And because a mini-facelift is less invasive, it is extremely natural looking and doesn’t look like you’ve “had work done”.
So, while we will never know which Hollywood A-listers had a mini-facelift, it’s a safe bet that many of them did undergo this transformative procedure. In this article, top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali answers patient’s frequently asked questions about the revolutionary “mini facelift” to help you decide if it may be right for you!
What’s the difference between a mini facelift & full facelift?
A mini facelift is similar to a full facelift, in that it addresses sagging skin, jawline and neck laxity, and folds in the lower part of the face – but in a less invasive manner. Since there is less extensive incisions and cutting in a mini facelift procedure, it can be performed in a few hours.
Generally, a mini facelift addresses the lower face, jowls and upper neck regions, while a full facelift often also includes the midface and the full neck. Because a mini facelift is less invasive, the downtime and recovery period is about half that of a full facelift.
Does a mini facelift last as long as a full facelift?
There are many factors that affect the longevity of both a mini facelift and a full facelift because every patient is different. The patient’s unique skin condition, lifestyle (smoking, tanning, athletics), sun exposure, and weight changes will affect how long any facelift lasts.
However, generally, since the mini facelift is a less invasive procedure, its results will typically last somewhat less than a full facelift. But in the hands of a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali, a good candidate who takes proper care of their skin, may see his or her mini facelift results for several years.
What’s the recovery time for a mini facelift?
In general, mini facelift patients can return to work and activities out of the house as early as one week after surgery. This is about half the time of full facelift surgery recovery. There is also much less swelling and bruising with a mini facelift – and usually minor bruising that may be covered with foundation or make-up.
What is the price difference between a mini facelift and a full facelift?
In addition to less recovery time, a mini facelift is also less expensive than traditional full face lift surgery. Typically, a full facelift costs roughly twice as much as a mini facelift. But every patient is unique – so every surgery is personalized depending on the techniques that will yield the most attractive and natural results.
Who is a good candidate for a mini facelift?
A mini facelift is an excellent option for men and women who are starting to notice aging changes – such as skin laxity and jowls – and who desire an improvement in their appearance without a drastic transformation.
A mini facelift is also a good option for those who simply don’t have the time or desire to go through a more extensive surgery and opt instead for a mini facelift.
Most of our mini facelift patients at AMAE Plastic Surgery in Birmingham, MI are in their 40s, 50s or 60s. But there is no cut-off age for a mini facelift. Depending on the patient’s overall health, skin condition, and treatment goals patients in their 70s and beyond may also undergo a mini facelift.

Liquid Facelift: Look Years Younger, Without Surgery!
/in Botox, Face Lift, Facial Filler /by adminTurn Back Time With a Non-Surgical Liquid Facelift!
The liquid facelift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that has become increasingly popular in recent years. Also known as a non-surgical facelift, this procedure uses dermal fillers and other injectables to restore volume and smooth out wrinkles and fine lines on the face.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 2 million injectable treatments were performed in the United States in 2020, with Botox and dermal fillers being the most popular procedures. The popularity of combining multiple injectable treatments into one non-surgical liquid facelift procedure is on the rise due to its minimally invasive nature and the relatively low cost compared to a surgical facelift.
In this article, the injectable experts at AMAE in the Troy, MI area will explore the details of the liquid facelift, including what techniques are used, what fillers are used, what results can be expected, and how it compares to a surgical facelift.
Fillers Used in Liquid Facelifts
The liquid facelift involves a combination of Botox, dermal fillers and other injectables into one procedure to achieve a more youthful appearance without surgery. The specific techniques and fillers used will vary depending on the patient’s individual needs and goals.
For example, adding volume to sunken or flat cheeks pulls skin on the lower upward and makes it more plump and tight – for a dramatically lifted look!
Some of the most commonly used injectables used in a liquid facelift include:
Hyaluronic acid fillers: Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate and plump the skin. Fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane use hyaluronic acid to restore volume to areas of the face that have lost fullness due to aging.
Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers: These fillers, such as Radiesse, use a mineral compound to add volume to the face and stimulate collagen production, which helps to lift, firm, and tighten the skin.
Poly-L-lactic acid fillers: These fillers, such as Sculptra, work by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production over time, resulting in a gradual improvement in skin texture and tone.
Botox and other similar injections (including Dysport and Xeomin): These are used to relax the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles and fine lines, particularly around the eyes and forehead – including the vertical “elevens” between the eyes, horizontal wrinkles across the forehead, and crows’ feet on the sides of the eyes.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections: PRP injections involve drawing a small amount of the patient’s own blood and processing it to concentrate the platelets which contain skin rejuvenating growth factors. The plasma is then injected back into the face to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture on a cellular level.
Results & Duration of Liquid Facelifts
The results of a liquid facelift are typically seen immediately after the procedure and can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years or longer, depending on the type of injectables used and the individual patient’s response. While the results of a liquid facelift are not permanent, many patients find that they can achieve prolonged desired results with regular touch-up treatments.
While the results of a surgical facelift are typically more dramatic and longer-lasting than those of a liquid facelift, the liquid facelift has several advantages, including: no recovery time, no need for general anesthesia, an extremely low risk of complications, significantly less discomfort, and no scarring.
Good Candidates for a Liquid Facelift
A good candidate for a liquid facelift is someone who is looking to improve the appearance of mild to moderate signs of aging on their face, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of volume. They should also have enough facial volume to achieve the desired results with injectable fillers and be in good overall health.
It is recommended that patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain medical conditions that affect blood clotting, such as hemophilia, should avoid a liquid facelift. Additionally, patients who have a history of allergic reactions to any of the injectable products used in the procedure should obviously not undergo a liquid facelift.
Choosing a Liquid Facelift Provider
When choosing a liquid facelift provider, it is essential to select a highly experienced plastic surgeon or trained nurse injector operating under the guidance of a plastic surgeon. A skilled medical provider, like top board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali and the nurse injectors at AMAE Plastic Surgery in the Troy, MI area will take the time to assess your individual needs and goals, create a personalized treatment plan, and use their expertise to achieve beautiful, natural-looking results.
In addition to the qualifications and experience of the provider, it is important to consider their approach to taking into account each patient’s unique facial features, including their skin type and tone, bone structure, and ethnic background. The provider should have experience working with patients of diverse ethnicities and be sensitive to the importance of preserving the patient’s natural beauty and cultural identity.

What Are the Causes & Best Treatments for Rosacea?
/in Lasers & Radiofrequency, Skin Care /by adminAdvanced Technologies Treat Rosacea & Eliminate Redness
At AMAE on the Rochester Hills, MI area we offer patients a wide array of medical-strength skincare products that can help minimize the appearance of rosacea. These include: ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Polish, ZO Oil Control Pads, ZOSkin Health Ossential® Daily Power Defense, and the generous use of a non-irritating sunscreen such as ZO Oclipse® Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30.

Morpheus8 RF Microneedling Rosacea Treatment
/in Lasers & Radiofrequency /by adminRadiofrequency Microneedling Gets Rid of Redness & Rosacea
If you suffer from the frustration of Rosacea, you already know that this inflammatory skin condition can cause visible veins, redness, flushing and, in some cases, ugly pus-filled pimples. And while the symptoms of Rosacea can make one feel very isolated, Rosacea is an extremely common condition. This disorder is estimated to affect about 5% of the adult population. Rosacea can strike almost any one at any age – but it is most common among middle aged white women.
Unfortunately, in spite of rosacea’s pervasiveness, it is still not completely understood by medical science. For example, there isn’t a laboratory-test to identify rosacea. Fortunately, while there is not yet a cure for rosacea, many of the symptoms of rosacea can be reduced or even eliminated using revolutionary new Morpheus8 Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling.
At AMAE Med Spa in the West Bloomfield, MI area we have helped many men and women minimize or get rid of the redness, visible blood vessels, and pustules of rosacea with Morpheus8 Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling.
How Morpheus8 RF Microneedling Treats Rosacea
Morpheus8 is a revolutionary new medical device that combines the science of microneedling with radiofrequency technology to activate the body’s repair mechanisms on a subdermal cellular level. Microneedling involves piercing through the epidermis (top layer of skin) with ultra-fine needles that penetrate the lower layers (dermis) of the skin. As the Morpheus8 needles penetrate the skin, gentle but powerful radiofrequency (RF) waves are delivered into the tissue. The RF thermal energy also stimulates the body’s repair response – healing inflammation and restoring skin to a healthy state.
Morpheus8 Microneedling Rosacea Treatment Candidates
Rosacea, like any medical condition, effects every person differently. There are many subtypes of rosacea that medical professionals categorize under a complex phenotype classification system.
Some people with rosacea only experience redness and “flushing” and/or visible blood vessels. Patients with more extreme rosacea breakouts suffer from unsightly and painful pus-filled pimples. So, every rosacea patient’s treatment plan needs to be approached individually.
For the right candidate, Morpheus8 can treat rosacea with exceptional results. Dr. Ali will conduct a thorough examination and consultation to determine if Morpheus8, IPL or one of our other advanced rosacea treatments is right for you.
Morpheus8 is ideal for many rosacea patients because the depth of the treatment can be precisely controlled – enabling it to be performed at a less invasive depth, if necessary, during the initial treatment. Dr. Ali will monitor the patient’s skin reaction and healing response, and the Morpheus8 treatment can then be increased, decreased, or adjusted as indicated.
Clinical Study of Morpheus8 Microneedling for Rosacea
A clinical study on the effectiveness of RF microneedling on rosacea was conducted by the Seoul National University Hospital Research Fund and National Research Foundation of Korea. Those reports determined that fractional microneedling radiofrequency therapy like Morpheus 8 significantly improves the appearance and inflammation of rosacea, in studies with mild to moderate rosacea.
Researchers in that study saw clinical improvements in 81% of the treated patients – with significant reductions in rosacea as well as less itching, heat, burning, or pricking on the treated side. And, in that study, no serious side-effects were reported during the RF microneedling.
Benefits of Morpheus8 RF Microneedling Rosacea Treatment
Laser treatments for rosacea are typically not safe for use on darker skin tones, because lasers that are attracted to dark pigment. But Morpheus8 RF Microneedling repairs the skin from within, so it is safe for use on all skin types, tones and colors.
Many skin treatments cannot be employed during active rosacea pimple breakouts. But Morpheus8 RF microneedling is safe and effective for patients even during active breakouts of rosacea pustules and pus-filled pimples.

Men’s Liposuction – the Unique Needs of Male Bodies
/in Liposuction /by M.Azar AliFlat Abs & Firm Flanks with Men’s Liposuction
Men and women are built differently, and those differences matter a great deal when it comes to liposuction. Male physiology, from fat distribution to muscle structure and skin thickness, calls for a distinct approach that is not simply a version of the techniques used for women. Understanding these nuances is what separates natural, masculine results from disappointing ones.
Because women account for roughly 85 percent of liposuction patients, many providers are far more experienced with female anatomy than with male. This imbalance means that the specific considerations of men’s liposuction can be overlooked, leaving male patients with results that do not suit their bodies.
Top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali understands the unique needs of male liposuction patients. As a board-certified plastic surgeon who has performed thousands of procedures, Dr. Ali tailors each liposuction treatment to the distinct goals and anatomy of men seeking a leaner, more defined physique.
Liposuction Statistics: Men vs Women
Liposuction remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the country, but the patient population is far from evenly split. Women make up the large majority of liposuction patients, which shapes how many providers approach the procedure and where their experience lies.
Men do seek liposuction in meaningful numbers, and their goals often differ from those of female patients. Rather than soft, curved contours, men typically want a more angular, athletic definition that reflects a fit, masculine appearance. This difference in goals is just as important as the difference in anatomy when planning a successful procedure.
At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, Dr. Ali brings extensive experience treating male patients with liposuction. His familiarity with the goals men bring to the procedure helps ensure that results look natural and appropriately masculine.
Why Men’s Liposuction is Different Than Women’s
Male fat tends to be firmer and more fibrous than female fat, which can make it more challenging to remove and requires a surgeon skilled in the appropriate techniques. Men also store fat in different areas, most commonly the abdomen, flanks and chest, compared with the hips and thighs common in women.
The aesthetic goal is different as well. Men’s liposuction aims to reveal underlying muscle definition and create a lean, athletic look, rather than the smooth curves often desired by female patients. This calls for a precise, sculpting approach.
Top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali understands exactly how male liposuction differs from female procedures. His technique is designed to work with the firmer fat and distinct contours of the male body for a defined, natural result.
Men’s Liposuction for “Man Breasts”
Excess fat or tissue in the male chest, sometimes called “man breasts,” is a common and often distressing concern for men. This fullness can make men feel self-conscious and reluctant to remove their shirts, even when they are otherwise fit.
Liposuction can effectively address excess fat in the chest, creating a flatter, firmer and more masculine contour. In many cases, this treatment dramatically improves how men feel about their appearance and confidence. For men who have felt self-conscious for years, the change can be genuinely life-changing, allowing them to feel comfortable in fitted shirts or without a shirt at all.
At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, Dr. Ali uses liposuction to sculpt a more masculine chest for male patients. His careful technique helps men achieve the flatter, more defined chest they are looking for.
Men’s Liposuction for Belly & Flanks
The abdomen and flanks are among the most common problem areas for men, where stubborn fat tends to accumulate and resist diet and exercise. This midsection fullness can obscure muscle definition and throw off an otherwise fit physique.
Liposuction of the belly and flanks can remove these stubborn deposits and restore a leaner, more athletic waistline. For many men, this creates the trim, defined midsection that lifestyle efforts alone could not achieve.
Top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali uses liposuction to refine the male belly and flanks with precision. His experience helps men reveal a firmer, more sculpted midsection that suits their build.
Men’s Liposuction for Chin
A full or poorly defined chin and neck can make a man appear heavier or older than he is. Fat beneath the chin often persists regardless of overall fitness, softening the jawline and reducing definition.
Liposuction of the chin and neck can sharpen the jawline and create a stronger, more masculine profile. This relatively quick treatment can have a significant impact on a man’s overall appearance.
At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, Dr. Ali uses liposuction to define the male chin and jawline. His attention to natural, masculine contours helps men achieve a more chiseled profile. Sharpening the jawline in this way can make a significant difference in how defined and youthful the whole face appears.
Men’s Liposuction with Autologous Fat Transfer
In some cases, the fat removed during liposuction can be put to good use elsewhere on the body. Autologous fat transfer takes a patient’s own fat and reinjects it to add volume or definition where it is wanted, such as the chest or other areas.
This approach allows men to both remove unwanted fat and enhance muscular definition in a single, coordinated plan. Using a patient’s own fat also creates natural-looking, long-lasting results. Because the transferred fat comes from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of an allergic reaction and the results integrate naturally over time.
Top Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali offers liposuction with autologous fat transfer for male patients. His skill with this advanced technique helps men achieve both a leaner and more sculpted, athletic appearance.
Liposuction | Birmingham, MI
If you are a man frustrated by stubborn fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, liposuction tailored to male physiology can help you achieve a leaner, more defined physique. Dr. Ali understands the unique needs of male patients and creates natural, masculine results. Liposuction for Black / African American Women
/in Liposuction /by adminSpecial Concerns for Liposuction & Darker Skin Tones
Liposuction is becoming increasingly popular among people of all races and sizes – as a means of permanently removing unwanted fat for a more toned and shapely body.
Thankfully, minority women now have more financial independence than ever before – giving them the means to make the changes to their bodies that will make them happier and more confident. Today, approximately half of all liposuction procedures are performed on African Americans!
But there are some important differences in liposuction beauty goals for women of different ethnic backgrounds. If you are a Black women who is considering liposuction, it is important to choose a plastic surgeon who understands your unique body type and appearance desires.
Liposuction & African American Culture
Black women have long celebrated their gorgeous curves – recognizing the beauty of the natural feminine shape. For many Black women undergoing liposuction, the emphasis is on a toned, proportionate, curvaceous feminine shape – and not a desire to look “stick skinny.”
Having performed several hundred liposuction procedures on women of all ethnicities, Dr. Ali understands that African American women often differ from Caucasian or Asian women in their goals for liposuction. If you are a Black women, it is important to find a liposuction surgeon who understands your own unique cultural ideals.
As one liposuction patient explained, she wanted to “Lose the gut, but not the butt!”
Understanding Black Skin & Liposuction
Black women and other women of color have unique skin and physiological characteristics that make the choice of surgeon especially important when considering liposuction. Richly pigmented skin carries a higher likelihood of certain healing responses, including keloid and hypertrophic scarring, as well as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, where the skin darkens around a healing incision. Because liposuction is performed through small incisions, the placement, technique and aftercare surrounding those incisions can meaningfully affect how visible any scarring becomes. Detroit area board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali understands how darker skin tends to heal and takes deliberate steps to minimize these risks and support a smoother, more even result.
Liposuction to Enhance You – Not Change You!
Dr. Ali artistically performs liposuction to sculpt the body in a way that accentuates a woman’s curves. He can give you a toned and sleek body – sculpting the perfect proportions for your body type – without sacrificing your personal or cultural identity.
We feel strongly that liposuction is NOT about giving in to society’s norms and changing who you are to fit other culture’s ideals. Rather, our approach to liposuction is about enhancement: enhancing the beauty that Black women already have.
Whether your ideal shape is anywhere from slim and trim like Hale Berry, more curvy like Beyoncé, or big and beautiful like Lizzo, in the hands of a skilled plastic surgeon Dr. Ali, you will simply look like the best version of yourself!
Many of our patients are African American attorneys, physicians and business professionals who simply want to look and feel their best – for their career, for their partner, and most importantly for themselves.
Choosing a Surgeon for Liposuction
These considerations are one of the most important reasons to seek out a skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali rather than a less experienced liposuction provider. Birmingham board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali has performed thousands of lipo procedures and brings a detailed understanding of how differences in skin tone, fat distribution and healing patterns vary from patient to patient. This experience allows him to plan incision placement thoughtfully, use techniques suited to each patient’s skin and guide aftercare in a way that helps reduce the risk of noticeable scarring or pigment changes.
For Black women considering liposuction, that combination of surgical skill and familiarity with diverse skin types is essential to achieving the safest, most natural-looking outcome.
