WHAT IS A RHINOPLASTY?
Nose reshaping surgery – often called a “nose job” or known by its technical name “Rhinoplasty” – is usually performed to alter the size, shape, and in some cases, the function of the nose (such as to correct breathing dysfunction).
Rhinoplasty is one of the more complicated facial surgeries. It can include reshaping or removing portions of the bone cartilage, reshaping or narrowing the bridge of the nose, re-sculpting the tip of the nose, or altering and improving the overall appearance of the nostrils.
Each procedure must be customized to the individual patient – one nose does not fit all!
HOW IS IT PERFORMED?
Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed under a general anesthetic. The length of time required to perform the operation is 1 to 3 hours. In addition to creating a more attractive nose, rhinoplasty may also be performed to improve breathing.
There are many different rhinoplasty techniques. Surgery may be performed through incisions placed inside the nose; this is called “closed rhinoplasty.” Another technique is “open rhinoplasty” where the incisions are made across the columella, the vertical strip of tissue separating the nostrils, as well as within the nose.
Modern concepts in rhinoplasty typically incorporate reshaping of the tissue and/or building up the nose to achieve an aesthetically pleasing form – rather than older techniques of breaking the bones and removing large amounts of tissue.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?
The first week after surgery you should rest your head in an elevated position to help minimize swelling. You may experience some bleeding, bruising and swelling, but this will subside over a few weeks.
In addition to a nasal splint you will also typically have some packing inside the nose, which will be removed by your surgeon. Within 10 days after surgery, your swelling should reach its peak and begin to subside. You can apply makeup to conceal any bruising. Some moderate activity can be resumed, but nothing strenuous. Several weeks after the surgery you can resume most of your normal activities.

5 stars is nothing compared to what Dr. Ali deserves! 100 stars if I could! It’s very hard to find a doctor these days that actually wants to listen to what you want and address all of your concerns. He makes you feel very safe and comfortable. I had a rhinoplasty and I am extremely happy I had chosen him.

I had a nose job with Dr. Ali two years ago. The swelling is completely gone at this point and I’m satisfied with the results. The results look natural.
